Youth Thermoball Traction Mules II
Youth Thermoball Traction Mules II
Slip-On · Insulated · Camp · Après

Post-expedition comfort should never be an afterthought. That's why we created one of our most iconic styles—the Thermoball Traction Mules. As the original off-grid slip-ons, these warm, durable shoes were born at base camp but adapted for everyday life. Lightweight and packable for easy transportation, insulated and fleece-lined for unrivaled comfort and warmth. They're the all-in-one solution for running errands, après relaxation, or kicking back at camp. These are an icon.

Benefits
Water Repellent
Durable finish causes water to bead on the surface, preventing the fabric from saturating.
Synthetic Fill
Synthetic insulation maintains warmth even in damp conditions.
Grip Sole
Rubber compounds deliver grip, traction, and durability on both wet and dry surfaces.
Recycled Material
Recycled content helps reduce landfill waste and the use of virgin materials.
Construction & Materials
Recycled P.E.T. Ripstop Upper
Upper made with 100% recycled P.E.T. ripstop — light, tough, and built from plastic bottles that would otherwise end up in landfill. Coated with a non-PFC durable water-repellent (DWR) finish that beads rain and snow without the perfluorinated chemicals found in traditional water repellents.
Thermoball™ Insulation
Thermoball™ 100% recycled polyester insulation traps warm air in small synthetic clusters that mimic down — but unlike down, it keeps insulating even when wet. Critical for kids who will inevitably step in puddles, snow, or wet grass.
Cozy Fleece Lining
Soft fleece lining against the foot for next-to-skin warmth and comfort. Wicks light moisture and feels broken-in from day one — no scratchy new-shoe break-in period for sensitive kid feet.
Collapsible Heel
Collapsible heel with elastic side panels lets kids slip these on and off without bending down or dealing with laces or straps — and they can wear them as a clog around the house by folding the heel down. Perfect for kids who want to do everything themselves.
Full-Sheet Rubber Outsole
Full-sheet rubber outsole delivers traction on wet pavement, slick locker-room floors, snowy porches, and damp campsite ground. Stiffer than a typical slipper sole, but more flexible than a hiking boot — built for the messy in-between of "casual wear" and "real outdoor use."

Profile

Category
Youth Slippers / Camp Shoes / Après Footwear
Activity
Camp, après, lounging, errands, school, travel
Season
Fall, winter, early spring (insulated for cold)
Packability
Lightweight and packable — squishes flat for backpack, duffel, or suitcase. The Traction Mules are a long-time base-camp favorite because they pack down smaller than a pair of sneakers and weigh less than a hoodie.
Spot Cleaning (Day-to-Day)
These will get muddy, sandy, sticky, and generally grimy — that's what they're for. Wipe down the ripstop upper with a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap. Rinse the cloth and wipe again to remove soap residue. Air-dry away from direct heat.
Machine Washing
The Traction Mules can handle an occasional machine wash — use cold water on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Skip the fabric softener (it can coat the DWR finish and reduce water repellency). Stuff with towels to help them keep their shape during the spin cycle.
Drying
Air-dry only. Never put in the dryer — heat can melt the Thermoball™ insulation clusters, damage the elastic side panels, and delaminate the rubber outsole. Stuff with paper towels or newspaper for the first hour to absorb internal moisture, then finish drying flat. Expect 24 hours for a fully soaked pair to dry completely.
DWR Refresh
The non-PFC DWR finish on the ripstop upper will wear off with use and washes. Refresh with a spray-on water repellent specifically labeled for non-PFC or PFC-free finishes (most major brands now make one). Apply to a clean, dry pair and let cure for 24 hours before wearing.
Fleece Lining Care
The fleece lining can pill with heavy use — that's cosmetic, not functional. Use a fabric shaver carefully to remove pills. For odors (these will get sweaty in kids' shoes), sprinkle baking soda inside, let sit overnight, then shake or vacuum out.
Outsole Care
Rinse the rubber outsole with clean water to remove mud, gravel, and salt. Check for embedded stones in the tread pattern periodically — small pebbles can reduce grip on slick surfaces.
Elastic Side Panel Care
The elastic side panels are what make these easy on/off. Avoid yanking or overstretching them — they should slide on with light pressure. If they lose elasticity over time, the shoe is likely at the end of its life (kids outgrow fast anyway).
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. They're packable enough to stuff in a bag for travel, but for long-term storage let them air out completely first to prevent mildew in the fleece lining.
Outgrown? Recycle.
Once the kids outgrow them (or wear through the outsole), the all-recycled upper + insulation make these a candidate for textile recycling rather than landfill. Check local programs for synthetic-fabric recycling drop-offs.
