DWR Treatment
Non-PFC (no perfluorinated chemicals)
Washing
Close all zippers and the chin guard before washing. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle using a down-specific wash (such as Nikwax Down Wash). Do not use regular detergent, bleach, or fabric softener — they strip the non-PFC DWR finish and clump the down clusters.
Drying
Tumble dry LOW with 2–3 clean tennis balls or dryer balls. The balls break up down clumps and restore loft. Multiple low-heat cycles are normal — the down needs to dry completely inside and out to prevent mildew and clumping. Drying can take 2–3 hours.
DWR Refresh
When water stops beading on the shell or the lining, reproof with a spray-on DWR treatment (such as Nikwax TX Direct Spray-On) to restore water repellency without soaking the down.
Stains
Spot-clean small stains with a damp cloth and mild soap rather than washing the whole parka. Less washing extends the DWR and down loft life.
Storage
Store uncompressed in a cool, dry place — never in a stuff sack for the off-season. Hanging on a wide hanger or storing loosely folded preserves down loft and prevents clumping. Ensure fully dry before storing.
ID Label
Write your kid's name in the inside label every season. Schools, daycares, and lost-and-found bins will thank you.
