DRYVENT™ 2L
TNF's waterproof breathable laminate — fully seam-sealed for guaranteed waterproof performance
Separating the Two Jackets
This is a 3-in-1 Triclimate™ — the outer DRYVENT™ 2L shell and the inner polar fleece liner are two separate, snap-incompatible (or layered) garments. Always separate them before cleaning. The two have different care requirements — the outer needs DRYVENT™-safe cleaning, the inner is a thicker polar fleece. Mixing them in a wash load or storing them zipped together traps moisture from the inner against the outer lining.
Cleaning — Outer DRYVENT™ 2L Jacket
Machine wash cold (30 °C) on a gentle cycle with a mild technical detergent. Close all zippers (VISLON® CF + alpine hand pockets) before washing. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, and stain remover — these clog the DRYVENT™ membrane pores, strip the non-PFC DWR finish, and can degrade the heat transfer logo on the left chest and back-right shoulder. Turn the jacket inside-out before washing to protect the logos and to reduce pilling on the 73 g/m² recycled polar fleece lining. Use two rinse cycles to fully flush detergent residue.
Cleaning — Inner Polar Fleece Jacket
Machine wash cold (30 °C) on a gentle cycle with a mild technical or color-safe detergent. Turn the inner jacket inside-out before washing to protect the embroidered logo on the left chest and to reduce pilling on the 185 g/m² 100% recycled polyester polar fleece. Avoid bleach and fabric softener — softener coats the fleece fibers and blocks the moisture-wicking performance. Use two rinse cycles to fully flush detergent residue, especially in the thick fleece body.
Drying — Outer DRYVENT™ 2L Jacket
Tumble dry on low to medium heat for 20–30 minutes or hang to dry with the hood and CF zip open. Low tumble heat reactivates the non-PFC DWR finish on the 110 g/m² DRYVENT™ 2L shell face. Avoid high heat — it can damage the DRYVENT™ membrane, warp the elasticated rain-guard tunnel in the hood, deform the partially-encased-elastic cuffs, and damage the VISLON® auto-lock slider. Reshape the hood and the polar fleece lining while damp.
Drying — Inner Polar Fleece Jacket
Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry. Low tumble heat restores the loft of the 185 g/m² polar fleece. Avoid high heat — it can permanently flatten the pile and shrink the elastic binding on the cuffs. Remove promptly and shake the fleece to restore full loft. The polar fleece dries quickly compared to the outer DRYVENT™ shell.
DRYVENT™ Membrane (Outer)
The DRYVENT™ 2L waterproof membrane sits between the 110 g/m² recycled nylon ripstop face and the 73 g/m² polar fleece lining — never dry-clean or use solvents, which destroy the membrane. If water soaks through after years of heavy use, the membrane is no longer trustworthy and the outer should be replaced or sent to TNF for repair service under the limited lifetime guarantee.
Taffeta Yoke & Outer-Arm Panels (Reinforced Zones)
The 111 g/m² 100% recycled nylon taffeta on the front/back yoke and outer-arm panels adds abrasion resistance where backpack straps and harnesses rub the most — these zones take the brunt of pack-strap wear. Inspect periodically for wear or thinning. The taffeta is durable but can pill at high-friction zones; wash inside-out on gentle cycle to preserve the surface finish.
Three-Piece Hood with Rain-Guard Tunnel
The attached three-piece hood has an elasticated rain-guard tunnel at the face opening for a snug fit. The elastic inside the tunnel is heat-sensitive — don't iron the tunnel or apply direct heat. Confirm the elastic is fully seated in the tunnel after each use; if the elastic stretches out, the hood service can be replaced through TNF's repair service.
VISLON® Center Front Zippers (Both Jackets)
Both jackets use VISLON® center front zippers — the outer has an auto-lock slider + chin guard + internal draft flap; the inner has a standard VISLON® + chin guard. The auto-lock on the outer prevents the slider from drifting down — but never force the slider up the wrong way to disengage the lock; release the lock mechanism correctly. Brush the zipper teeth with a soft toothbrush and lubricate sparingly with silicone-based lubricant if the slider stiffens.
Set-In Sleeves + Cuffs (Outer)
Both jackets have set-in sleeves for a tailored range of motion. The outer has partially-encased-elastic cuffs (stretch + secure fit, but no full elastic band); the inner has full elastic binding on the cuffs. Heat is the enemy of both cuff types — high-temperature tumble dry can shrink them permanently. If the elastic loses snap-back over years of wear, replace through TNF's repair service.
Secure-Zip Alpine Hand Pockets (Outer)
The outer's secure-zip alpine hand pockets are designed for use with a backpack hip-belt or harness — the pocket sits above the belt line so the belt doesn't block access. Don't store sharp items (keys, multi-tools) loose in the pockets — the alpine pocket shape can tear at the corners. Brush the zippers with a soft toothbrush and lubricate sparingly if the slider stiffens.
Open Hand Pockets + Stand Collar (Inner)
The inner jacket has open hand pockets (no closure — quick access for layering) and a stand collar for warmth under the chin. The stand collar pile can mat where it contacts the outer jacket's chin guard; brush the collar's pile upright after each wear to maintain loft.
Inner Jacket — Embroidered Logo (Heat Transfer is Outer)
The inner jacket uses a stitched embroidered logo on the left chest; the outer uses a heat transfer logo. Different care per layer — the embroidered logo is durable but can snag on the outer jacket's lining when stored zipped together (always separate them). The heat transfer on the outer is sensitive to harsh detergents, bleach, and high heat.
ID Labels (Both Jackets)
Both jackets have ID labels — useful for teens' school and camp use. The labels are stitched on the inside of the inner; periodically check the stitching to confirm the label is still attached. If the label lifts, hand-stitch it back down.
DWR Maintenance (Outer)
The non-PFC DWR finish on the 110 g/m² DRYVENT™ 2L shell face fabric can be refreshed when water stops beading on the surface. Wash the outer first + tumble dry on low to medium heat to reactivate the DWR. If beading doesn't return, apply a PFC-free DWR spray treatment rated for nylon ripstop and let cure.
Polar Fleece Pilling (Inner)
The 185 g/m² recycled polyester polar fleece can pill at high-friction zones (inner forearms where the outer shell's seam tape rubs, side panels where the arms rub). Light surface pills are cosmetic — trim with sharp scissors if they bother you. Don't pull pills, which damages the fleece.
3-in-1 Triclimate™ Compatibility
Both jackets are designed to wear together: the inner polar fleece liner zips into or layers under the outer DRYVENT™ 2L shell. The system is tuned so the inner doesn't bind the outer's arm length. Don't substitute non-TNF inner jackets — the layering system depends on specific dimensions, fabric weight, and zip alignment for the system to work.
Material Notes
Do not dry clean, bleach, iron, or use solvents on either jacket — both have components that degrade under these treatments. Keep both away from open flames and high heat sources (campfires, hot car interiors). The 110 g/m² outer ripstop is durable for daily use but can be cut by sharp edges (carabiner edges, ski edges, ice tools) — clip snags with sharp scissors to prevent runs in the ripstop weave.
