Cleaning
These gloves should be hand-washed in cool water with a mild technical or leather-safe soap — do not machine wash. Machine agitation can damage the GORE-TEX® insert, displace the HEATSEEKER™ PRO insulation, and stiffen the goat-leather shell. Use a soft brush on the leather shell; spot-clean the TKA fleece lining with mild soap. Rinse thoroughly to flush detergent from all layers, including the accordion-padding channels.
Drying
Air dry completely at room temperature with the gauntlet open. Stuff the gloves with paper towels or a dry cloth to hold the Progressive Precurve finger shape and absorb interior moisture. Avoid direct heat (radiators, hot car interiors, hair dryers, clothes dryers) — heat damages the GORE-TEX® membrane, displaces HEATSEEKER™ PRO insulation, and can stiffen and warp the goat-leather shell.
Goat Leather Shell Care
The 100% goat leather shell is soft and durable but needs leather-specific care. Apply a leather conditioner (sparingly) once or twice a season to keep the leather supple and water-resistant. Don't use saddle soap or wax-based conditioners designed for boots — they can clog the leather pores. Wipe salt residue and snow moisture with a damp cloth after each cold-weather use; salt dries out leather and can crack the surface.
GORE-TEX® Insert
The GORE-TEX® insert sits between the goat-leather shell and the TKA fleece lining — never dry clean or use solvents, which destroy the membrane. If water soaks through after years of heavy use, the insert is no longer trustworthy and the gloves should be replaced or sent to TNF for repair service under the limited lifetime guarantee.
HEATSEEKER™ PRO Insulation
HEATSEEKER™ PRO is premium microfiber synthetic insulation — more compressible and loft-recovering than standard HEATSEEKER™. The zone-weighted design (330 g back-of-hand + 80 g palm/cuff) puts warmth where you need it most while keeping the palm flexible for pole grip and rope work. Tumble dry on low (if the glove is rated for it) to restore loft after washing; otherwise air dry fully. Never compress the gloves long-term under heavy gear, which flattens the loft permanently.
TKA 100 Fleece Shell Lining
The super-soft TKA 100 fleece shell lining (100% recycled polyester) is brushed for warmth next-to-skin. Fabric softener and bleach mat the brushed fibers — skip softener entirely to preserve the moisture-wicking performance. The fleece can pill with heavy use; lightly trim pills with sharp scissors if they bother you.
Back-of-Hand Padding (3 mm foam + accordion)
The 3 mm foam padding on the back of the hand plus accordion padding on the knuckles protects against pole strikes, rope burns, and tree-well impacts. The accordion channels can trap dirt and debris — brush them clean with a soft dry brush after each outing. Inspect the foam periodically; if it compresses permanently or separates from the shell, the padding loses its protection.
Progressive Precurve Fingers
The Progressive Precurve is the accumulative curvature from index to pinkie — designed for the natural resting position of relaxed fingers. Don't try to "straighten" the fingers when not wearing the gloves — the precurve is intentional and reduces hand fatigue on long days. Stuff the gloves while drying to hold the precurve shape.
Nose Wipe
A soft nose wipe area is built into the thumb for skin-friendly face wiping during cold-weather use. The nose wipe fabric is gentler than the leather shell — don't use the leather area for face wiping, which can abrade skin.
Carabiner Loop, Wrist Leash & Pairing Snap
The carabiner loop on the back of the ring finger lets you clip the gloves to a harness or pack; the wrist leash prevents drops when you pull the gloves off mid-ride; the riveted-metal pairing snap keeps both gloves together when not worn. Inspect the rivet of the snap periodically — if loose, refasten or replace through TNF's repair service. Don't carry the gloves by the wrist leash alone (it can stress the seam); use the carabiner loop or carry both gloves together.
Zigzag Stitch + Elastic at Wrist
The zigzag stitch with elastic at the wrist gives a snug, comfortable fit. The elastic loses stretch over years of heavy use — if the wrist fit loosens, replacement is through TNF's repair service. Don't over-stretch the wrist when putting the gloves on — work each finger in deliberately rather than yanking the cuff.
Cuff Lining + Webbing Cuff Pull
The 100% polyester taffeta cuff lining is engineered for easy on/off — the slick surface slides over a jacket sleeve rather than grabbing it. The webbing cuff pull at the gauntlet base gives leverage for pulling the gloves off. Replace the cuff pull if it frays; the taffeta lining can be cleaned with mild soap if it picks up skin flakes.
Embossed Logo
The TNF logo is embossed (pressed into the leather) rather than printed — durable and won't wear off like screen-print can. The embossing is permanent unless the leather is cut or sanded deeply, so no special care is needed for the logo itself.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight with the gauntlet open and the pairing snap fastened to keep the pair together. UV exposure fades the goat leather and dries out the natural oils. Long-term compression under heavy gear flattens HEATSEEKER™ PRO loft. Avoid storing the gloves damp — mildew in the TKA fleece lining is the #1 glove killer. Use a breathable glove bag or hang from the carabiner loop.
