Montana Edge Mitt
Montana Edge Mitt
Accessories · Gloves / Insulated Waterproof Mitt

For powder chasers at the resort and backcountry skiers alike, the Montana Edge Mitt delivers a premium look and feel along with protection and performance. It includes a DRYVENT™ waterproof insert and an elevated materials package that make it the ultimate choice for winter adventures.

5-Zone Construction for Performance
Engineered with 5 different fabrics in 5 different zones — each fabric tuned for its specific function. 250g HEATSEEKER™ at the back of the hand for max warmth + 120g at the palm for dexterity + 60g at the gauntlet for mobility + DRYVENT™ insert for waterproofing + WINDWALL™ gauntlet lining for wind resistance. Real performance engineering
DRYVENT™ Waterproof Insert
DRYVENT™ waterproof insert between the shell and insulation — keeps hands dry through snow, sleet, and wet glove conditions; breathable enough to prevent hand-sweat buildup inside the mitt
100% Recycled Nylon + Goat Leather Construction
Back of hand + gauntlet: 100% recycled nylon with non-PFC DWR finish for weather protection + palm + mitt tip: 100% goat leather with non-PFC DWR finish for durability + grip on poles + buckles. Premium materials throughout
Differential Insulation (250/120/60 g)
Differential HEATSEEKER™ insulation: 250g at back of hand (most warmth where it matters) + 120g at palm (less bulk for grip) + 60g at gauntlet (less bulk for wrist mobility). All 70% post-consumer recycled polyester
WINDWALL™ Gauntlet Lining
Gauntlet lining: WINDWALL™ — 100% recycled polyester with non-PFC DWR finish for wind resistance. Cuts wind chill through the gauntlet without adding bulk
Progressive Precurve
Progressive Precurve is the accumulative increase of curvature from index finger to pinkie — creates a more natural shape for your fingers as they relax in the mitt; reduces hand fatigue on long days
Zigzag Stitch with Wrist Elastic
Zigzag stitch with elastic at wrist for a better fit — keeps the mitt snug at the wrist without binding; the zigzag pattern is more flexible than a standard straight stitch for wrist movement
Two-Way Adjustable Fit
Two-way ladderlock wrist tension and shockcord with a cord lock at gauntlet hem for an adjustable fit — seal out snow at the gauntlet + cinch the wrist for a secure fit. Real adjustability for different layering
Leather Cuff Pull
Leather cuff pull — durable tab for pulling the mitt on and off, even with cold hands or when wearing a glove liner
Nose Wipe
Built-in nose wipe on the back of the thumb — soft fabric for wiping a runny nose in cold weather without needing to remove the mitt
Wrist Leash + Pairing Clip
Removable wrist leash helps prevent mitts from dropping + pairing clip helps keep them together when you’re not wearing them (on a chairlift, at a table, on a backpack). Real resort + backcountry convenience
Recycled Materials Throughout
Back of hand + gauntlet 100% recycled nylon, all linings 100% recycled polyester, all HEATSEEKER™ fill 70% post-consumer recycled

Sustainability

Recycled Content
Back of hand + gauntlet 100% recycled nylon · All linings 100% recycled · All HEATSEEKER™ fill 70% post-consumer recycled
PFC Status
Non-PFC DWR finish (all treated fabrics)
Cleaning
Close all wrist tension and gauntlet shockcord adjustments fully before washing. Hand-wash in cool water with a small amount of mild soap (or a technical cleaner like Nikwax Tech Wash for the DRYVENT™ insert and WINDWALL™ lining) — the goat leather palm + mitt tip need a leather-safe cleaner. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — the agitation and heat destroy the DRYVENT™ insert, deform the goat leather, damage the HEATSEEKER™ fill, and break down the two-way wrist tension + shockcord hardware. Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, fabric softener, and solvent-based cleaners.
DRYVENT™ Insert Care
The DRYVENT™ waterproof insert is the key waterproofing layer — treat it with care. Don’t puncture the insert with ski edges, crampon points, or sharp poles — a puncture means water entry. If the insert develops a leak, the mitt is not field-repairable (most repairs mean sending to a TNF repair center or replacing the mitt). Hand-wash the insert only with a technical cleaner designed for waterproof membranes.
Goat Leather Palm Care
The 100% goat leather palm and mitt tip is the most tactile and durable part of the mitt. Periodically condition with a leather conditioner (Nikwax, Granger’s, or a similar leather-safe product) to maintain suppleness and prevent drying/cracking. Don’t use generic leather conditioner — can damage the non-PFC DWR finish. If the leather develops dry spots or cracks, a small amount of leather conditioner restores the look. Store dry to prevent mildew.
DWR Re-Proofing
When water stops beading on the 100% recycled nylon back of hand + gauntlet, re-treat with a spray-on DWR such as Nikwax TX Direct or Granger’s Performance Repel. Apply to the clean, damp mitt, paying extra attention to the back of hand (most snow exposure). Don’t spray the goat leather palm — leather-safe DWR is a different product. The WINDWALL™ gauntlet lining also benefits from periodic DWR re-treatment if the wind resistance decreases.
HEATSEEKER™ Re-Fluffing
The 250 g/120 g/60 g differential HEATSEEKER™ synthetic fill can lose loft over years of compression (especially when stored in a tight glove pocket). If the mitt feels less warm than it used to, hand-fluff each zone (back, palm, gauntlet) by massaging the insulation. For severe compression, a brief tumble dry on LOW with 2–3 clean tennis balls can re-fluff the fill — use extreme caution with heat; high heat damages the goat leather, the DRYVENT™ insert, and the two-way wrist tension hardware.
Two-Way Wrist Tension + Gauntlet Shockcord Care
The two-way ladderlock wrist tension and the gauntlet shockcord with cord lock are the most-operated hardware. Periodically clean the ladderlocks of ice + snow + grit (a toothbrush works) and lubricate sparingly with a silicone-based lubricant (Nikwax, GE Silicone II) if they start to slip or jam. The cord lock can lose grip over time; if it stops holding tension, a replacement cord lock (standard 1/4″ cord lock from a hardware store) can be swapped in.
Wrist Leash + Pairing Clip
The removable wrist leash and pairing clip are the most common wear points on the mitt. Check the wrist leash attachment point (usually a small D-ring or fabric loop) and the pairing clip webbing for fraying. The wrist leash is replaceable with a standard elastic wrist leash; the pairing clip is replaceable with a standard glove/mitt clip from a hardware store.
Leather Cuff Pull
The leather cuff pull is durable but can dry out and crack over years of use. Don’t over-pull the cuff pull when putting on the mitt with cold hands — can tear the stitching or the leather. If the stitching starts to fray, a quick hand-stitch with heavy-duty thread restores it.
Nose Wipe
The built-in nose wipe on the back of the thumb is soft fabric designed for wiping a runny nose in cold weather. Periodically wash the nose wipe area with a small amount of mild soap to remove body oils + prevent odor buildup. Don’t use harsh cleaners — can dry out the fabric.
Progressive Precurve Maintenance
The Progressive Precurve shape (accumulative curvature from index finger to pinkie) is built into the mitt at the factory and shouldn’t deform with normal use. If the mitt loses its precurved shape (mitt looks flat when worn), don’t try to re-curve it — the goat leather palm + HEATSEEKER™ fill have memory and trying to force a curve can damage the construction. Send to a TNF repair center if the precurve is significantly compromised.
Skiing + Snowboarding Use
The Montana Edge is designed for both resort and backcountry use — the 250 g HEATSEEKER™ at the back of the hand is plenty warm for most resort days + spring/summer skiing; the DRYVENT™ insert keeps hands dry in wet snow. For deep cold (below 0°F) or extended backcountry tours, add a glove liner (synthetic or merino) for extra warmth. For deep powder, pair with a jacket that has wrist cuffs that seal over the gauntlet to keep snow out.
Storage (Off-Season)
Store in a cool, dry place — open and laid flat (not crumpled in a pile) to preserve the Progressive Precurve shape. Don’t store damp — the goat leather palm + 100% recycled polyester lining can develop mildew. Keep out of direct sunlight (UV degrades the recycled nylon, the goat leather, and the non-PFC DWR). Hang the wrist leash off a hook or coil it inside the mitt to prevent it from tangling with other gear.
