Cleaning
Remove loose dirt, salt, and snow with a soft brush after every outing. Wipe the leather + suede upper with a damp cloth and a small amount of leather-safe cleaner if needed. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — the heat and agitation destroy the HEATSEEKER™ Eco insulation loft, the waterproof membrane, the seam seals, and the full-grain leather. Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, and solvent-based cleaners.
Drying
Air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight. Remove the insoles and loosen the laces to allow airflow through the interior. Never set the boots on a radiator, near a fire, or in a clothes dryer — high heat warps the molded-TPU shell, dries out the leather, delaminates the seam seals, and collapses the 400 g of HEATSEEKER™ Eco fill. Stuff loosely with crumpled newspaper for the first few hours to wick moisture and hold the boot’s shape; replace the paper when it’s saturated.
Leather Care
The full-grain waterproof leather + suede upper needs periodic conditioning to stay supple and water-resistant. Apply a leather conditioner or waterproofing treatment (Nikwax, Granger’s, or a similar leather-safe product) every 4–6 weeks of regular winter use, or whenever the upper starts to look dry. Treat the suede panels with a suede-safe product only — regular leather conditioner can darken or stiffen suede.
Waterproofing
The internal waterproof membrane + seam-seal construction is built to last, but the DWR (durable water-repellent) finish on the leather and TPU shell wears over time. When water stops beading on the upper, re-treat with a leather-safe DWR spray. Inspect the seam seals periodically — small lifts can usually be repaired with a seam-seal adhesive (Gear Aid Aquaseal + FD or similar) before they become leaks.
Hardware & Laces
The elevated metal hardware is rustproof, but rinse it with fresh water after exposure to road salt or slush to prevent long-term corrosion. Wipe dry. Replace laces as soon as they start to fray — a blown lace mid-hike in winter is a real safety issue.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Loosen the laces fully and stand the boots upright (or use boot shapers) to maintain the heel and shaft shape. Never store damp — trapped moisture in the HEATSEEKER™ Eco insulation leads to mildew and odor that can be very hard to remove. Allow boots to dry fully between uses.
Outsole Care
Clear mud, packed snow, and road salt from the SURFACE CTRL™ lugs with a stiff brush after each use to preserve winter traction. Buildup in the lugs dramatically reduces grip on ice and packed snow. Check lugs periodically for wear; once the tread is visibly smoothed, the boot has lost meaningful winter grip and should be replaced.
