Men's Bergen Mid Waterproof Boots
Men's Bergen Mid Waterproof Boots
Footwear · Insulated Hiking Boot

The Men's Bergen Mid Waterproof Boots, our new heritage-inspired outdoor boots with HEATSEEKER™ insulation, are great for everything from walking the dog to biking when it's cold outside. Our waterproof footwear incorporates a variety of advanced waterproofing materials, treatments, and processes — to help keep feet dry, we use internal waterproof membranes and/or adhesive and seam-seal constructions.

Heritage-Inspired Mid-Cut Design
New heritage-inspired outdoor boot with a mid-cut height that sits lower than other Bergen styles — the lower profile gives a more casual, everyday silhouette while still providing ankle support and protection for light trail use; bridges the gap between technical hiking boot and lifestyle winter boot
Suede & Ripstop Upper
Suede and ripstop upper — the suede provides durability, water resistance, and a heritage aesthetic while the ripstop panels add tear-resistance and reduce weight in high-stress zones; TNF purchases 100% of its leather from Leather Working Group (LWG)-certified tanneries, ensuring responsible environmental practices in the leather supply chain
Waterproof DRYVENT™ Membrane
Waterproof DRYVENT™ membrane is an internal waterproof barrier — prevents water from entering the boot while still allowing moisture vapor to escape, keeping feet dry from rain, snow, and puddles while preventing the clamminess that comes from non-breathable waterproofing; used in conjunction with adhesive and seam-seal constructions for complete waterproof performance
100 g HEATSEEKER™ Synthetic Insulation
100 g HEATSEEKER™ synthetic insulation provides reliable warmth in cold, damp conditions — the proprietary hollow-core fiber insulation retains heat even when wet, making it more reliable than down in wet environments; 100 g weight is mid-range, appropriate for cold-weather walking, commuting, and light outdoor activity in temperatures roughly 20–40°F
Easy On/Off with Gloves
Large heel and tongue webbing loops make it easier to put on and take off the boots even when wearing gloves — the oversized webbing pulls are a deliberate heritage design cue and a functional feature for cold-weather use where dexterity is limited; makes the boot accessible for anyone with stiff fingers or limited hand function in cold weather
Metal Hardware Eyelets
Metal hardware on the top two rows of eyelets — provides durable, rust-resistant lace hardware at the highest-stress points of the lacing system; the metal eyes distribute lace pressure evenly and don't deform under repeated tightening like plastic eyelets can
SURFACE CTRL™ Outsole with IcePick® Lugs
SURFACE CTRL™ outsole is optimized for weight and versatility — made with 10% rubber sourced from smallholder farmers committed to agroforestry principles and regenerative agriculture practices; the 4.5 mm lugs are widely spaced for efficient debris removal and reliable traction on snow and mud; IcePick® rubber lugs are molded directly onto the softer SURFACE CTRL™ outsole compound and harden when the temperature drops below freezing to provide biting traction on icy surfaces

Cleaning
Remove the insoles and laces before cleaning. Brush off loose dirt and mud with a soft brush (a shoe brush or old toothbrush) while the boots are still damp — mud dries rock-hard and is much harder to remove once set. Wipe the suede and ripstop upper with a damp cloth and mild soap (or a technical cleaner like Nikwax Footwear Cleaner). Do not machine wash or fully submerge the boots in water — this damages the DRYVENT™ waterproof membrane, saturates the suede, and can cause delamination of the sole. For the suede panels, use a suede brush to restore the nap after cleaning; a suede eraser can remove dried mud or water stains.
Drying
Air dry at room temperature away from direct heat or sunlight. Stuff the boots loosely with newspaper or paper towels to absorb moisture from the inside — replace the paper 2–3 times as it saturates. Do not use a clothes dryer, radiator, campfire heat, or hair dryer — direct heat damages the suede, degrades the DRYVENT™ membrane, and can melt the adhesive in the sole construction. Proper drying takes 24–48 hours depending on humidity. Removing the insoles and loosening the laces before drying speeds the process and helps the boot retain its shape.
DRYVENT™ Waterproof Membrane Care
The internal DRYVENT™ membrane is the boot's core waterproofing system and is damaged by high heat, harsh detergents, and prolonged saturation. Do not apply waterproofing treatments to the inside of the boot — the membrane handles internal moisture by allowing vapor to escape, not by repelling water from the outside. The suede upper will need periodic DWR (durable water repellent) restoration on the external face — use a spray-on suede/nubuck waterproofing product (Nikwax Nubuck & Suede Wax or Granger's Performance Repel) applied to the suede panels only, not the ripstop or the sole unit. Reapply DWR at the start of each season or after heavy use.
Suede Upper Care
The suede panels require periodic brushing with a suede brush to maintain their texture and appearance — brush in one direction to restore the nap after the suede has dried. Waterproof the suede regularly with a suede-specific DWR spray before the suede gets soaked — suede absorbs water readily and can become stiff and misshapen if it saturates repeatedly without protection. Allow wet suede to dry slowly at room temperature, stuffed with newspaper and shaped by hand; never let wet suede dry crumpled. A suede eraser can remove light dried mud or water marks once the suede is fully dry.
IcePick® Lugs & Outsole Care
The IcePick® lugs are designed to harden below freezing for traction on ice — this is a temperature-activated property of the rubber compound, not a mechanical feature, so there's nothing to adjust or maintain. Clear mud and debris from the 4.5 mm lugs with a stiff brush after each use — debris accumulation reduces traction and can pack in the lugs during wet, muddy use. The SURFACE CTRL™ outsole is durable but the 10% smallholder-farmer rubber content means it wears slightly faster than a pure rubber outsole; monitor lug depth over seasons and replace if the lugs are significantly worn down.
HEATSEEKER™ Insulation Care
The 100 g HEATSEEKER™ synthetic insulation retains warmth even when damp but the boots should still be dried fully between uses. If the insulation gets soaked (flooding, prolonged submersion), remove the insoles and dry the boots as described above; the synthetic insulation will dry without losing significant loft. Do not use waterproofing treatments on the inside of the boot — the membrane handles internal moisture; additional coatings can block the membrane's breathability and trap condensation inside the boot. Periodically remove and air the insoles separately to prevent odor buildup in the insulation layer.
Lace & Pull Loop Care
The large heel and tongue webbing pull loops are the primary entry feature — inspect the stitching periodically to ensure the loops are securely attached to the suede/ripstop upper. If the webbing loops fray or the stitching loosens, repair before the loop detaches entirely; a cobbler or shoe repair shop can re-stitch the loops with heavy-duty thread. The laces are standard round polyester boot laces — replace when frayed or when the aglets wear down enough to make threading difficult.
Storage (Off-Season)
Store clean and fully dry with the insoles removed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Loosen the laces completely before storing — leaving the boots laced tight for months creates stress on the eyelets and can deform the toe box. Stuff the boots loosely with a boot tree or newspaper to help them hold their shape. Do not store in an airtight container — the DRYVENT™ membrane benefits from occasional airflow. A cotton storage bag or ventilated shoe rack is ideal. Cedar boot trees absorb moisture and odor between wears.
