Travel line built on the durable waterproof tarpaulin of the classic Base Camp Duffel
TPU Coating
Thermoplastic polyurethane coating on the main shell for water resistance and abrasion durability
Cleaning
Wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. For deeper cleaning, hand wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent — do not machine wash or machine dry. The TPU-coated 300D recycled polyester tarpaulin and the 840D recycled ballistic nylon panel are both water-resistant and clean easily with a soft brush, mild soap, and water.
Drying
Air dry completely at room temperature with the main compartment unzipped and standing upright (or on its back panel) so airflow reaches all interior surfaces. Do not tumble dry, do not use a clothes dryer, and do not apply direct heat (hair dryers, heaters) — heat can delaminate the TPU coating and damage the wheel hardware.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep compression straps and zippers unbuckled/unzipped to avoid stress on the fabric and zipper tracks. Avoid folding the telescoping handle into storage while wet.
Zippers
The YKK® zippers on the main compartment, internal divider, external secure-zip pocket, and interior mesh pocket all benefit from periodic silicone-based lubricant — apply sparingly to the teeth and work the slider up and down to distribute. Avoid getting sand, salt, or grit in the teeth; rinse with fresh water after beach or dusty travel days.
TPU-Coated Tarpaulin Shell
The 300D recycled polyester tarpaulin with TPU coating is the same shell material used on the classic Base Camp Duffel and is highly abrasion- and water-resistant. The TPU coating can be scratched by rough surfaces — avoid dragging the bag across rough concrete, asphalt, or stone walls. To restore water repellency on the back panel (840D ballistic nylon with non-PFC DWR), apply a PFC-free spray-on DWR treatment.
Wheels & Telescoping Handle
The two smooth-rolling wheels and the telescoping wide handle take the most abuse in airports — confirm the handle is fully extended before pulling and fully retracted before storage. Wipe the wheels with a damp cloth after travel days to remove grit that can damage the bearings; the handle should never be forced past its stops.
Chassis & Handles
The rock-solid chassis is built for repeated transport — but avoid dropping the bag on its corners. The one top, one bottom, and two side handles give you multiple carry options; alternate between them to distribute wear, and never lift the bag by the telescoping handle extension when it is loaded fully and not on its wheels.
Laptop Sleeve
The 15'' padded laptop sleeve (15.25'' x 12.375'') is not waterproof — confirm your laptop is in a waterproof sleeve before placing it in this compartment for travel in wet conditions. Always wrap the laptop in a microfiber pouch first to keep the sleeve interior clean.
Internal Compression Straps & Mesh Pocket
The internal compression straps are designed to secure clothing and other items — do not overload them beyond their elastic range, as over-tensioning can warp the chassis. The large internal mesh pocket is useful for organization but can tear if overloaded with heavy items — keep heavy items in the main compartment.
Material Notes
Do not dry clean, bleach, iron, or use solvents on the tarpaulin, ballistic nylon, or TPU-coated surfaces. Keep the bag away from open flame and high heat sources (radiators, campfires, hot exhaust). The non-PFC DWR finish on the back panel is durable but will eventually wear — reapply a PFC-free DWR spray when water no longer beads.
