Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL9 Frameset Description:

The Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL9 Frameset represents Specialized's devotion to the process of innovation in the world of road cycling, achieving breakthroughs in handling, aerodynamics, and construction that result in the lowest real-world Time to Finish data ever tested by Specialized. Time to Finish is a physics-based simulation output that predicts total elapsed race time over a specific real-world course; Specialized carefully crafted the Tarmac SL9 to favor the fastest performance in real-world scenarios over boastful data captured in wind tunnels. To achieve the best race performance possible, Specialized utilized the Equation of Speed, a design approach that factors real-world data generated by the rider, the bike, and the route to determine an optimal shape to handle the forces experienced by all three on race courses. The decision to pursue every aerodynamic factor led to a redesign of the legendary SL8 Speed Sniffer headtube, shaving 4mm of material for a 10% reduction in frontal area. High-energy airflow generated by the front wheel is managed by Flow Fork shaping, featuring twisted bladed fork legs and a crown that nests cleanly within the headtube/downtube transition for reduced drag across the front of the bike. A complete issuance of aerodynamic prowess continues through the rear of SL9 by way of the Win Fin aerodynamic seat tube, a specially shaped form that capitalizes on single water-bottle race configurations to shift airflow efficiently and save rider output. Further aerodynamic advantage is gained by way of an S-Works Rapide post, a bladed shape that manages airflow between the legs in a revolutionary manner, while issuing an advanced level of compliance. Flow State Design ensures each frame is constructed with an ideal carbon fiber layup, expressing better ride quality, improved structural integrity, and weight savings. Rider-First Engineering optimizes each frame size to grant every rider consistent stiffness, compliance, and handling, no matter their size. An overall frame weight of just 687 grams (56cm) with complete builds starting at just 6.5kg, Tarmac SL9 is sure to lead the field on every level, no matter the rider or their competition.

Features:

  • Carbon fiber road frame designed with aerodynamic influence inspired by World Tour benchmarks and revolutionary internal testing
  • Built factoring the equation of speed, a measure of rider performance in real-world scenarios, shaving seconds off Time to Finish Simulations of every rider tested
  • Aerodynamic improvements over the SL8 frame generation include a reshaped Speed Sniffer headtube, Flow Fork, Win Fin seat tube, and S-Works Rapide Post
  • 687g frame weight (56cm) with complete builds starting at 6.5kg situates Tarmac SL9 at the top of the road aero category
  • FACT 12r carbon construction, determined by Flow State Design, results in a lighter build, better ride quality, and superior structural integrity
  • Rider First Engineered sizing determines a size-specific layup, delivering stiffness, compliance, and handling for every rider regardless of height
  • Race-proven performance geometry, checked against moving leg mannequin wind tunnel data, optimizes race-critical positioning during sprints and breakaways
