Proprietary 50% Recycled Wool Insulation
Proprietary 50% recycled wool insulation (50% Recycled Wool/Reprocessed Wool, 38% Wool, 12% Polyester filling) keeps you warm and comfortable, no matter where your pursuits take you. The recycled wool insulation delivers the loft and warmth retention of standard wool fill while reusing material that would otherwise go to waste. Lightweight by design — this is a cropped jacket, not a belay parka, so the insulation is tuned for active warmth rather than static sub-zero stops.
Non-PFC DWR & Wind-Resistant Front Panel
Non-PFC DWR and a wind-resistant front panel help protect from the elements. The recycled polyester overlay on the front panel sheds light snow and blocks wind at the chest's leading edge — the highest-exposure area on a moving body. The non-PFC DWR treatment (no perfluorinated chemicals) delivers the water-shedding performance with a lower environmental impact than traditional PFC-based DWR.
Four-Way Stretch Mobility Zones
Four-way stretch fabric paneled in at key mobility zones helps you move more freely. The stretch panels are placed where the body bends during active use (under the arms, at the side seams) so the jacket moves with the body rather than fighting it. The non-stretch front panel keeps the wind-resistant overlay in place; the stretch panels handle the reach and rotation without pulling the jacket out of position.
Merino Wool Blend Interior Lining
The interior is lined with a Merino wool blend (56% Merino Wool, 44% Recycled Polyester) for extra coziness against the skin and at the cuff and collar where the lining touches the neck and wrists. Merino's natural temperature regulation and odor resistance mean the jacket stays comfortable across a wide range of activity levels without developing the stale smell a synthetic-only lining can develop over a multi-day trip.
Regular Fit With Room To Move
Our regular fit is intended to help give you room to move without additional bulk. Roomier than a slim-fit insulation piece but not boxy — the cut leaves space for a base layer or a light mid-layer underneath without the binding or constriction a tight athletic fit would create at the chest and shoulder. The cropped length hits above the hip for freedom of movement through the waist without excess fabric bunching at the belt line.
Two Secure External Pockets
Two secure external pockets (hand pockets) keep essentials accessible without the risk of dropping them on the move. The pockets are lined for hand-warming comfort and sized to fit a phone, a key, or a pair of liner gloves.
Cropped Length For Active Versatility
The cropped length hits above the hip — the right length for layering under a shell or a ski jacket without the insulation bunching at the waist, and the right length for wearing on its own in milder cold without excess fabric getting in the way of a pack-belt or a harness. The cropped cut also gives the jacket a clean, casual silhouette that transitions from trail to town.

Washing
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Wash with like colors — the multi-layer construction (recycled wool insulation, recycled polyester overlay, Merino blend lining) benefits from isolated washing to protect the fabric's performance and color integrity. Cold water protects the elastane recovery and the Merino lining fibers. Use a mild, technical wash; avoid fabric softeners (they coat the Merino lining fibers and reduce natural moisture management, and they can degrade the non-PFC DWR treatment).
Drying
Tumble dry low. The recycled wool insulation is designed to recover its loft with low-heat tumble drying — this is one of the few Smartwool pieces that explicitly allows tumble dry (low heat only). The low heat re-fluffs the recycled wool fill and helps restore the DWR treatment's water-shedding performance over time. Do not tumble dry on medium or high heat; high heat can shrink the wool fill and degrade the non-PFC DWR.
Bleach & Iron
Do not bleach. Cool iron as needed — do not iron decoration. Bleach breaks down Merino wool fibers and degrades the elastane in the main body. Iron only on low heat and only on the non-decorated fabric areas; high heat can scorch the Merino blend lining and damage the non-PFC DWR treatment on the front panel.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino and degrade the recycled wool insulation's loft retention — both of which are core to the jacket's thermal performance.
Storage
Store folded or hung in a dry, breathable space. Merino's natural odor resistance means the jacket stays fresh across multiple wear days between washes, which extends the fabric's lifespan. Hanging is acceptable for this piece (unlike the base layers) because the insulation is structured rather than knit-mapped; hanging won't distort the recycled wool fill the way it would distort a base layer's 3D-knit articulation zones.
