The cardigan silhouette is an open-front pullover — the kind of layer that goes on without any commitment to a closed neckline. Worn over a tee, henley, or Merino crew, the cardigan adds core warmth without the bulk of a fully-zipped or buttoned layer, and adjusts itself to the temperature through the day without needing to be re-dressed.

Built as a lightweight classic cardigan — lighter than a heavyweight winter sweater, heavier than a fine-gauge tee. The knit breathes enough to layer over a base layer or a long-sleeve tee on shoulder-season days, holds enough body to wear solo on cool-morning walks and weekend coffee runs.

52% Recycled Polyester, 30% Merino Wool, 18% Recycled Nylon. The Merino handles next-to-skin performance — moisture management, temperature regulation, and natural odor resistance across multi-day wear. The recycled polyester and recycled nylon blend provide the durable structure that lets a lightweight knit hold its shape through wash and wear without stretching or sagging.
Edgewood Family Fabric
Same Edgewood fabric philosophy as the Women’s Edgewood Crew Sweater (SW002950) and the Women’s Edgewood Tunic (SW003186) — the Edgewood family is built on the Merino + recycled blend platform with consistent hand-feel across the silhouette range. The Cardigan uses a 52/30/18 split (vs the crew and tunic’s 55/30/15) for a slightly higher recycled-nylon content that adds durability and recovery to the open-front silhouette.
Regular Fit
Our regular fit is intended to help give you room to move without additional bulk. The cardigan sits cleanly at the shoulder, leaves room through the body for layering a tee, henley, or Merino crew underneath, and falls to a hip-length that hits cleanly at the waistband of jeans or trousers.
Set-In Sleeves
Set-in sleeve construction shapes the shoulder and arm with a tailored cut that sits cleanly at the joint. The Edgewood Cardigan moves with the arm rather than the body, so reaching forward, lifting, or carrying a tote doesn’t pull the open front or bunch the back. The set-in sleeves give the cardigan its clean silhouette without the boxy shoulder line of a drop-shoulder knit.
Donegal Color Palette
The Donegal colorways (Black Donegal, Mocha Heather, Purple Storm Donegal) reference the heritage Donegal tweed aesthetic — the heathered, nep-textured appearance that comes from blending multiple fiber colors in the yarn. The Donegal palette positions the Cardigan as the heritage aesthetic in the Edgewood lineup.

Washing
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors. Cold water protects the Merino fibers and prevents shrinkage of the knit; the gentle cycle keeps the open-front edges and the set-in sleeves from stretching out of shape. Turn the cardigan inside out before washing to reduce surface abrasion on the outer knit and the Donegal nep texture.
Drying
Lay flat to dry. Hanging a wet knit cardigan stretches the shoulders and the open front out of shape; laying it flat on a clean towel preserves the fit and the open-front silhouette through hundreds of wear cycles. Keep out of direct sunlight to protect the Donegal color palette.
Bleach
Do not bleach. Bleach damages Merino wool fibers, weakens the recycled-polyester backbone, and strips the heathered color from the Donegal knit.
Ironing & Decoration
Cool iron as needed. Do not iron decoration. The lightweight knit recovers from light wrinkles with steam or a cool iron; direct high heat on the Donegal nep texture or any printed graphics will scorch or flatten the surface.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino and degrade the recycled-polyester structure, leaving the cardigan brittle and prone to pilling.
