Windproof Front Panel — 0 CFM Rating
Windproof front panel (0 CFM rating): Non-PFC DWR finish helps protect from the elements — the 0 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) rating means zero air passes through the front panel, the strictest windproof standard in technical outerwear. The 85% Recycled Nylon / 15% Elastane overlay on the chest's leading edge blocks the wind chill that would otherwise punch through to the brushed Merino interior, and the non-PFC DWR finish sheds light snow and light rain without the perfluorinated chemicals of traditional DWR treatments.
Two-Face Construction — Merino Interior, Windproof Exterior
Four-way stretch knit fabric puts soft-brushed Merino blend next to skin and recycled synthetic material against the elements to help balance comfort and protection. The interior face runs a brushed Merino-recycled-polyester-elastane blend (38% Merino in the main body) that traps body heat and manages moisture against the skin; the exterior face is the windproof recycled nylon overlay that handles wind chill at the surface. The two faces are knit as one fabric rather than layered separately — no separate liner pulled over a shell, no bunched layers between them, no cold spots where air gets between the layers.
Six-Piece Hood With Balaclava
Six-piece hood with balaclava — the six-piece hood construction (vs the standard three-piece hood) uses more panels for better conformity to the head's shape, eliminating the bunching and the bind points a simpler hood creates at the crown and the side seams. The hood extends into a balaclava configuration that covers the lower face (over the nose and mouth) in deep cold or wind, providing the same lower-face coverage a separate neck gaiter delivers but integrated into the hood for a seamless windproof head-and-neck system.
Brushed Merino Interior
Soft-brushed Merino blend next to skin (38% Merino Wool in the main body) delivers the natural temperature regulation and odor resistance Merino is known for — the brushed interior traps body heat against the skin, manages moisture during high-output activity, and resists odor-causing bacteria across multi-day wear. The brushed face feels soft against the skin or against a base layer, and the loft adds a layer of insulation that pure synthetic fleece can't match.
Four-Way Stretch For Active Movement
Four-way stretch knit fabric supports active movement — the stretch is knit into the main body fabric (8% Elastane) rather than added as spandex panels at the side seams. The four-way stretch moves with the body through running, hiking, climbing, and training movement without the binding a less-stretchy fleece would create at the shoulder or elbow. The fabric recovers its shape after the movement stops, so the hoodie doesn't bag out at the elbows or sag at the hem.
Secure Back Pocket
Secure back pocket — a back pocket holds a phone, a card, or a key without the bounce or risk of drop a front pocket has during a run or a hike. The pocket is lined (100% Recycled Polyester pocket lining) for the structure a phone-sized pocket needs, and positioned high enough on the back that it doesn't interfere with the running gait or a pack's hip belt.
Reflective Elements For Low-Light Visibility
Reflective elements increase visibility in low-light conditions — early-morning winter runs, sunset commutes, and after-work training sessions when the daylight fades. The reflective trim is placed where it catches headlights from multiple angles (back, lower sleeve) without breaking the hoodie's clean silhouette.
Regular Fit With Room To Move
Our regular fit is intended to help give you room to move without additional bulk — roomier than a slim-fit athletic piece but not boxy. The cut leaves space for a base layer underneath without the binding a tight athletic fit would create at the chest and shoulder, and accommodates the six-piece hood without compressing it against the head. Layers cleanly under a shell or a ski jacket for the coldest days.

Washing
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Wash with like colors — the two-face construction (brushed Merino interior + windproof recycled nylon overlay) benefits from isolated washing to protect the fabric's moisture-management properties and the non-PFC DWR treatment. Cold water protects the Merino fibers from shrinking and the elastane recovery. Use a mild, technical wash; avoid fabric softeners (they coat the Merino fibers and reduce natural moisture management, and they can degrade the non-PFC DWR treatment and the elastane's stretch recovery).
Drying
Dry flat. The brushed Merino interior and the four-way stretch knit construction benefit from flat drying rather than tumble drying — flat drying preserves the brushed interior's loft, the four-way stretch's recovery, and the 0 CFM windproof front panel's performance. Tumble heat can delaminate the two-face knit construction (brushed Merino interior + recycled nylon overlay), flatten the brushed interior loft, and degrade the non-PFC DWR treatment. Lay flat on a clean towel away from direct heat; reshape the hoodie gently after washing. (Note: this is different from the Smartloft Hybrid Jacket SW003204 in this family that allows tumble dry low — the Active Fleece Wind Hoodie has no Smartloft insulation and the brushed Merino interior is more sensitive to tumble heat than the structured Smartloft fill.)
Bleach & Iron
Do not bleach. Cool iron as needed — do not iron decoration. Bleach breaks down Merino wool fibers and degrades the elastane in the four-way stretch zones. Iron only on low heat and only on the non-decorated fabric areas; high heat can scorch the brushed Merino interior and damage the non-PFC DWR treatment on the windproof front panel.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino and degrade the recycled nylon overlay's 0 CFM windproof performance and the non-PFC DWR treatment — both of which are core to the hoodie's wind protection.
Storage
Store folded in a dry, breathable space. Merino's natural odor resistance means the hoodie stays fresh across multiple workouts between washes, which extends the fabric's lifespan. Folded storage preserves the brushed interior loft and the four-way stretch recovery; hanging for long periods can stretch the elastane out of the articulation zones at the shoulder and elbow and distort the six-piece hood's panel structure.
