Pursuit Self Inflating Sleeping Pad
Pursuit Self Inflating Sleeping Pad
5cm / 2in Thickness · R-Value 3 · 4 Sizes × 2 Shapes · Lightest in Class

Pack light and sleep deeply with the Pursuit self-inflating sleeping mat. A lightweight, performance sleeping mat built for long alpine days that demand restful nights, with Horizontal Delta Coring for foam-supported comfort at low weight.

5cm Horizontal Delta Cores
5cm Horizontal Delta Cores create air-filled chambers for increased comfort while keeping weight and size low — same Delta Coring tech as the Pursuit Plus, with the foam thinned to shave weight. Foam-supported air channels vs solid foam = serious comfort at low weight.
Lightest Mat in Its Class
The lightest mat in its class — at 605 g (21.3 oz) for the Regular Contour, the Pursuit hits a weight that competes with many ultralight inflatable pads while keeping the comfort of self-inflating foam. The choice for thru-hikers and gram-counting backpackers who'd rather carry less than fight with an air pad.
Contour or Rectangular Shape
Available in weight-efficient Contour shape for side-sleeping comfort, or luxurious Rectangular version for maximum space to spread out — same shape options as the Pursuit Plus. Contour is tapered at shoulders/hips; Rectangular is full-width.
XPEL Multi-Function Valve
XPEL Valve — same multi-function unit as Pursuit Plus. Integrates one-way inflate + deflate + fine-tune into one low-profile valve. Flip the valve to deflate, preventing the mat from self-inflating as you roll it up. Compatible with the Airstream Pumpsack for topping off after self-inflation.
ASTM-Tested R-Value 3
ASTM-tested R-Value of 3 (vs Pursuit Plus's R 4.1) — sufficient for three-season use: late spring, summer, and early autumn. Best for temperatures above freezing. The thinner 5cm foam sacrifices some insulation for weight savings.
20D Recycled Solution-Dyed Polyester
Recycled, solution-dyed, bluesign APPROVED fabric — same sustainability story as Pursuit Plus: color-throughout yarn (carrot vs radish), drastically reduced water/energy/CO2 use. The 1% for the Planet commitment and RCS-recycled certification apply too.
Side-Loading Stuff Sack
XPEL Valve and side-loading stuff sack make inflation, adjustment, deflation and packing a breeze — the side-load design accelerates camp teardown. Roll from the foot end, valve flips to deflate, slide into the side-loading bag in one continuous motion.

Sister Product
Pursuit Plus (7.5cm / R 4.1) — choose Pursuit for weight, Plus for comfort/insulation
Self-Inflate, Then 2-3 Breaths to Operating Pressure
Open the XPEL valve and let the foam core draw itself full of air (5-10 minutes), then add 2-3 breaths to bring it to operating pressure. With a thinner 5cm foam than Pursuit Plus, the mat self-inflates faster but also reaches operating pressure faster — most users are fully inflated within 5 minutes total.
Deflate by Flipping the XPEL Valve
To deflate, flip the XPEL valve over — turns the one-way inflate valve into a one-way deflate valve, preventing the mat from drawing itself full of air as you roll it up. Roll from foot end toward valve, pressing out air as you go. Don't fold; folding creates permanent creases in the foam.
Store Unrolled & Dry (Long-Term)
For long-term storage, leave unrolled with valve open — foam recovers full loft. If rolled for storage, release compression every few weeks to prevent foam fatigue. Always store fully dry to prevent mildew in foam core; trapped moisture is the #1 killer of self-inflating mats.
Spot-Clean with Mild Soap & Water
Spot-clean the 20D polyester face fabric with a soft cloth, warm water, and mild soap (like Nikwax Tech Wash). Don't machine wash — forces water into foam core, leading to mildew and odor. Don't machine dry — heat damages the face fabric and the foam.
Avoid Direct Flame & High Heat
Keep away from direct flame, camp stoves, and high heat — flame-retardant-free PU foam will melt or burn on direct contact. The polyester face fabric can melt at ironing temperatures; don't try to iron the mat smooth.
Protect the Face Fabric from Abrasion
20D ultralight fabric is vulnerable to abrasion — clear pine needles and rocks before pitching, lay a groundsheet under the mat on rough terrain (granite slabs, desert pavement), and avoid dragging. The Pursuit Plus and Pursuit share the same fabric so this is a uniform care step across the family.
Air Out After Multi-Day Trips
After multi-day trips, air the mat fully before storing — open the valve and unroll for 24 hours. Body moisture and condensation can saturate the foam through night sweats and breath; trapped moisture leads to mildew that can't be reversed.
Valve Seal Maintenance
Periodically inspect the XPEL valve seal for debris (dust, sand, grit) — wipe the seal clean with a damp cloth before each trip. A clean seal keeps inflation one-way and prevents slow leaks; a dirty seal can let the valve pass air both ways, leading to a soft mat by morning.
