Pursuit Plus Self Inflating Sleeping Pad
Pursuit Plus Self Inflating Sleeping Pad
7.5cm / 3in Thickness · R-Value 4.1 · 4 Sizes × 2 Shapes

Made for comfort-seeking outdoors lovers, the Pursuit Plus is a 7.5cm thick self-inflating sleeping mat for maximum comfort in the wilderness. Available in the lightweight Contour or complete Rectangular versions, both use Horizontal Delta Coring to reduce weight without sacrificing comfort.

7.5cm / 3in Thickness
The Pursuit Plus is a 7.5cm thick, self-inflating sleeping mat — significantly thicker than ultralight inflatable pads (typically 5–8cm) and noticeably more supportive for side sleepers. Comfortable for any sleep position.
Horizontal Delta Cores (40% Foam Reduction)
Sea to Summit innovation removes 40% of the foam in a self-inflating mat, leaving Delta-shaped "cores" — saves weight and reduces packed volume while creating foam-supported, air-filled channels that significantly enhance comfort. Lighter, more packable, more comfortable.
XPEL Multi-Function Valve
XPEL Valve was the first valve developed specifically for self-inflating sleeping mats — integrates a one-way inflate port, a deflate port, and a fine-tune button into a single, low-profile unit. The genius: flipping the valve reverses flow, preventing the mat from self-inflating as you roll it up. Compatible with the Airstream Pump for topping off.
ASTM-Tested R-Value 4.1 (3-Season)
ASTM-tested R-Value of 4.1, offering extended three-season comfort and insulation — sufficient for late autumn, early spring, and most summer alpine nights. STS has always provided independent lab-tested R-Values using the industry-standard ASTM F3340 since 2020.
Contour or Rectangular Shape
Available in Rectangular version for maximum room or Contour shape for weight-efficient comfort. Contour gives shoulder/elbow room for side sleeping without Rectangular weight. Rectangular offers maximum space for comfort-oriented sleepers who want to spread out.
20D Ultralight Recycled Polyester
Recycled, solution-dyed, bluesign APPROVED, non-PFAS 20 denier ultralight fabric — solution dyeing adds color to liquid polymer before extrusion (color-throughout like a carrot, vs surface-only like a radish), eliminating fade and dramatically reducing water + energy + CO2 use.
Side-Loading Stuff Sack
A side-loading stuff sack streamlines the packing process — the mat rolls up small enough to slide into a side-loading bag with one continuous motion. The rolling method naturally engages the XPEL valve deflation (preventing re-inflation as you pack), saving time at camp teardown.
1% for the Planet Commitment
Pursuit Plus is part of Sea to Summit's 1% for the Planet commitment — 1% of revenue goes directly to environmental causes. Combined with the bluesign APPROVED recycled solution-dyed fabric, this is one of the lowest-impact self-inflating mats in the line.

Self-Inflate First, Then Top Off with Breath or Pump
Open the XPEL valve and let the mat self-inflate for 5-10 minutes — open-cell foam expands and pulls in air. Then close the valve and inflate to firmness with 5-10 breaths or an Airstream Pump (sold separately). The fine-tune button lets you micro-adjust pressure at any time during the night.
Deflate by Flipping the XPEL Valve
To deflate, flip the XPEL valve over — this turns the one-way inflate valve into a one-way deflate valve, preventing the mat from drawing itself full of air as you roll it up. Roll from the foot end toward the valve, pressing out air as you go. Don't fold the mat without rolling first; folding creates creases in the foam.
Store Rolled or Unrolled, Always Dry
For long-term storage, leave the mat unrolled with the valve open — the foam will decompress and recover to its full loft. If space forces rolled storage, don't leave it compressed for months; release compression every few weeks. Always store fully dry to prevent mildew in the foam.
Spot-Clean with Mild Soap & Water
Spot-clean the 20D polyester face fabric with a soft cloth, warm water, and mild soap (like Nikwax Tech Wash) — don't machine wash. Machine washing can damage the taped seams, the XPEL valve, and force water into the foam core (which then won't dry properly and will mildew).
Avoid Direct Flame & High Heat
Keep the mat away from direct flame, camp stoves, and high heat — the open-cell PU foam is flame-retardant-free (per STS commitment to non-PFAS / flame-retardant-free products) and will melt or burn if exposed to a stove fire or hot pan. The face fabric can melt at ironing temperatures, so don't iron the mat.
Protect the Face Fabric from Abrasion
20D ultralight fabric is light but vulnerable to abrasion — clear pine needles and rocks before pitching, lay a groundsheet under the mat when sleeping on rough terrain (granite slabs, desert pavement), and avoid dragging the mat across rough surfaces. Small punctures can be patched with Gear Aid patches.
Air Out After Multi-Day Trips
After multi-day trips where the mat absorbs body moisture through condensation and sweat, air it out fully before packing away — open the valve and unroll the mat in a dry place for 24 hours. Trapped moisture in the foam core leads to mildew and odor, both of which shorten the mat's lifespan.
Valve Seal Maintenance
Periodically inspect the XPEL valve seal for debris (dust, sand, grit) — wipe the seal clean with a damp cloth before each trip. The valve is the most common failure point on self-inflating mats; a clean, debris-free seal keeps the inflation one-way and prevents slow leaks.
