Mosquito Pyramid Net Shelter
Mosquito Pyramid Net Shelter
Hanging Bug Shelter · Single / Double · 175–270 g

The Mosquito Pyramid Net Shelter is a hanging shelter for sleeping in mosquito country. It suspends from a single point and is used over a cot, sleeping pad, or mattress — both in the backcountry and in indoor settings.

50D Black Mesh Netting
50D black mesh netting offers high visibility — the black mesh absorbs ambient light instead of reflecting it back, so you can see out of the shelter clearly at dawn and dusk while mosquitoes and other insects can't see in. Critical for getting out of bed without bug-laden light silhouetting you.
Fine 80 hole/cm² Hexagonal Mesh
Fine 80 hole/cm² hexagonal mesh — the holes are small enough to keep out sandflies, midges, and no-see-ums (which can pass through standard mosquito mesh), while still allowing full airflow. Hexagonal weave is stronger per weight than square weave.
Soft Multi-Filament Polyester
Soft, finely woven multi-filament polyester is lightweight and compact — softer than most bug netting, so it drapes over your body and gear without scratching. The fine filaments also resist snagging on velcro, zippers, and rough edges.
Asymmetric Hanging Point (Apex Near Head)
Asymmetrical hanging point gives practical headroom — the apex of the pyramid is closer to the head end, so you get more vertical space where your head and shoulders need it, and the tail end is lower where your feet are. Not a true rectangle, but a smarter shape.
Height Easily Adjustable
Height is easily adjustable — cinch the suspension cord higher to lift the shelter, or lower it to bring the sides in close. Single-point suspension means a quick pull on the cord adjusts the whole shelter at once.
Colour-Coded Corners
Colour-coded corners for easy set up — each corner has a different colored tape so you can quickly identify the head end, foot end, and side corners when pitching in low light. No fumbling in the dark.
Tuck-In Sides for Bug-Proof Seal
Tuck-in sides offer extra protection — the base flap is designed to be tucked under your sleeping pad, mattress, or cot to create a complete bug-proof seal. No gaps for bugs to crawl in under the edge.
Aluminium Spreader Pole (Double Version)
Aluminium spreader pole used on double version — keeps the wide end of the Double shelter open so two sleepers can lie side-by-side without the mesh collapsing on them. The Single version doesn't need a spreader pole because the body shape holds it open.
Includes Stuff Sack
Comes packaged in its own stuff sack — pack the shelter into the stuff sack for travel, and use the same sack to keep the shelter clean and dry on the trail. No extra stuff sack to lose or forget.
Permethrin-Compatible
A spray-on or wash-in permethrin treatment will not harm the shelter's material — permethrin adds an extra layer of bug protection by killing insects on contact, useful in heavy mosquito or tick country. Re-treat every 6 weeks for sustained effectiveness.

Use

Best Use
Trekking in mosquito country, traveling, wilderness camping, hostel/hotel use
Suspension Point
Tree branch, shelter ceiling, hotel ceiling hook, or any overhead anchor
Under Tarp?
Not recommended — tarps don't typically have a central hanging point, and the height requires pitching the tarp far from the ground. See Escapist Inner Bug Tent for tarp-compatible bug protection.
Compatible With
Use over cot, sleeping pad, or mattress (Double = side-by-side two sleepers)
Hand Wash with Mild Soap
Hand wash the mesh with warm water and mild soap (like Nikwax Tech Wash or diluted dish soap) — machine washing can damage the fine 80 hole/cm² hexagonal mesh and stretch out the shape. Rinse thoroughly and air dry flat or hanging.
Treat with Permethrin as Needed
A spray-on or wash-in permethrin treatment will not harm the shelter's material — for heavy bug country, treat the entire mesh with Sawyer Permethrin or Insect Shield pre-treatment. Re-treat every 6 weeks of use, or after every wash.
Inspect Mesh for Tears Before Each Trip
Before each trip, hold the mesh up to the light and inspect for small holes, snags, or worn spots — a single hole in a bug shelter defeats the entire purpose. Patch small holes with Gear Aid Tenacious Tape (cut to size, apply from the inside).
Repair Small Tears with Tenacious Tape
Small tears in the 50D mesh can be repaired with Gear Aid Tenacious Tape patches — cut the patch slightly larger than the tear, apply from the inside of the shelter, and let cure 24 hours. Mesh tears grow fast if not patched.
Store in Stuff Sack, Dry
Always store the shelter in the included stuff sack, completely dry — trapped moisture leads to mildew and odor in the mesh, and can damage the permethrin treatment if applied. Hang the shelter to air dry for 30 minutes after the last use before packing.
Avoid Snagging on Sharp/Course Edges
The fine multi-filament mesh is soft and snag-resistant but not snag-proof — avoid contact with velcro, zippers (especially YKK zippers without flaps), and rough bark or rock edges. Set up in clear space, not directly under branches that could drop debris.
