Set Contents (3 Pieces)
NEW: Passage Collection Line (First Build Today!)
The Passage Collection is a NEW product line introduced in this build (first mention today as a product line — previously only referenced in FAQs): What is the Passage Collection: - A separate STS tableware line (sister to Frontier) - Different material philosophy than Frontier - More durable + more practical - Slightly heavier (less ultralight) - More features (dishwasher safe, microwavable) Material split for Passage Collection: - 40% Polypropylene (PP) — durable, food-safe - 14% 304 Stainless Steel (likely hardware + edges) - 2% Silicone (likely CoolGrip coating or seals) - 44% = Pot (Frontier 2L Pot, separate material mix) Why Passage is different from Frontier: - Frontier = lightweight, ultralight priority, silicone-based, NOT dishwasher safe - Passage = more durable, PP-based, dishwasher safe, microwavable - Two lines for two different priorities Passage Collection characteristics: - Glass-reinforced polypropylene (stronger than typical PP) - EU/Japanese food-grade materials - CoolGrip sidewalls (insulating for hot/cold contents) - Spoon-matched curve (STS design system) - = The "more practical" sister line to Frontier's "ultralight"
Lid with Strainer Holes (NEW DETAIL)
Per STS: "clever strainer holes in the pot lid" What this means: - The 2L Pot lid has built-in strainer holes - For draining pasta, vegetables, etc. - No need for a separate colander - Doubles as a pot + colander Use cases: - Boil pasta, drain through the lid - Boil vegetables, drain - Boil water, strain - The lid = primary strainer Why this is a Frontier innovation: - Most pot lids are solid - Strainer holes = lid has dual function - Saves weight (no separate colander needed) - Practical design for backpackers
Pass Bowl + Mug: Dishwasher Safe + Microwavable
Per STS: "Passage bowl and insulated mug are made of EU/Japanese food-grade, glass-reinforced polypropylene that's easy to clean, microwavable and dishwasher safe" Why this matters: - Most silicone cookware is NOT dishwasher safe (anodized aluminum damaged) - Polypropylene IS dishwasher safe (no aluminum) - = The Passage Collection is more convenient The convenience difference: - Frontier cookware: hand-wash only (per multiple FAQs) - Passage Collection: dishwasher safe - Throw in with your other dishes - More convenient for car camping + van life Polypropylene properties: - Food-safe (no leaching) - Heat-resistant to ~120°C (dishwasher + microwave safe) - Glass-reinforced = stronger than typical PP - = More durable than silicone for daily use
Insulated Mug (NEW IN FRONTIER LINE)
Per STS: "Passage Insulated Mug" What's new: - This is the FIRST insulated mug in the Frontier UL line - Previously only Frontier Frontier Frontier Collapsible Cup (silicone) was available - Now a polypropylene insulated mug for hot/cold drinks Insulated meaning: - Double-wall construction (likely) - Vacuum-sealed air gap between walls - Keeps hot drinks hot longer - Keeps cold drinks cold longer Why a Passage insulated mug vs a Frontier cup: - Frontier Cup: silicone, single-wall, lightweight, no insulation - Passage Insulated Mug: PP, double-wall, slightly heavier, MUCH better temp retention - = Choose the right cup for your use case Use cases: - Coffee that's still hot 30 min after pouring - Iced drinks that stay cold for hours - Less need to reheat - = More practical for extended camp mornings
Same 4 FAQ Insights as the 5-Piece Set
The 4 FAQ answers (same as the Frontier 5-Piece Cook Set A1242 built earlier):FAQ #1: "Are the Frontier Pots dishwasher safe? No - the pot and lid are anodized aluminum; the caustic cleanser used in dishwashers will damage the anodization. Passage tableware is dishwasher safe" - Confirms the two-line system - Pot = hand-wash only - Passage bowl + mug = dishwasher safe FAQ #2: "What is the silicone rubber 'clip' on the inside of the lid for? It's a 'lid keep' - you can clip the lid to the side of your kettle to keep the lid clean while cooking in an outdoor kitchen" - (Note: the FAQ says "kettle" but this product is a pot — minor STS inconsistency) - LidKeep keeps the lid off dirty ground FAQ #3: "Will the Click-Safe handle fit other Frontier Pots? Yes - the Click-Safe handles are interchangeable" - Same handle across all Frontier pots - Standardized hardware FAQ #4: "Can the bowl / cup be held comfortably when contents are hot? Yes - the Cool Grip surface allows you to hold the tableware securely while providing insulation from hot contents" - CoolGrip on the Passage Collection - = The insulated mug + bowl both have CoolGrip
Award-Worthy + Frontier + Passage Hybrid
This set is positioned as "the basis of the best lightweight camp kitchen setup available" (per STS): Why "Frontier + Passage" hybrid is the best of both worlds: - Frontier 2L Pot: ultralight, ceramic non-stick, premium performance - Passage Bowl + Mug: durable, dishwasher safe, microwavable - = One set covers the conflicting priorities of backpackers + travelers Use cases: - Backpacking (use the pot as designed) - Car camping (dishwasher clean-up) - Travel (microwave reheat at hostels) - Van life (durability + convenience) - Long expeditions (the mix maximizes versatility)

Position in STS Lineup
First hybrid set combining Frontier (pot) + Passage (tableware) — versatile for car camping + travel + backpacking
Mixed Dishwasher Rules (Pot vs Passage)
This set has TWO different care protocols based on the material:POT (Frontier 2L Pot) — NOT dishwasher safe (per FAQ): - "the pot and lid are anodized aluminum; the caustic cleanser used in dishwashers will damage the anodization" - Hand-wash only - The ceramic non-stick + anodized aluminum = damaged by dishwasher PASSAGE BOWL + MUG (Passage Collection) — DISHWASHER SAFE (per FAQ): - "Passage tableware is dishwasher safe" - Polypropylene = dishwasher-tolerant - Throw in with your other dishes - = More convenient than the Frontier line Practical mixing: - Disassemble before washing - Pot + lid → hand-wash - Bowl + mug → dishwasher - = Different cleaning protocols for the same set
Microwave Safe (Passage Components)
Per STS: "Passage bowl and insulated mug are made of EU/Japanese food-grade, glass-reinforced polypropylene that's easy to clean, microwavable and dishwasher safe" Microwave for the Passage bowl + mug: - Polypropylene is microwave-safe - Reheat leftovers in the bowl - Warm drinks in the insulated mug - = Versatile for travel + hostels Why PP is microwave-safe: - Standard food-safe PP - No metal components - Heat-resistant to ~120°C - = Standard for food storage Microwave use cases: - Reheat soup in the bowl at the hostel - Warm coffee in the insulated mug - Quick food prep - = Especially useful for travel + van life
Lid Strainer Holes (NEW)
The new lid with strainer holes (per STS):Care: - The strainer holes are built into the lid - Wipe clean after use (don't let food residue dry in the holes) - The lid is hard-anodized aluminum (NOT dishwasher safe) - Hand-wash the lid separately Why this matters: - Strain pasta, vegetables, water - No need for a separate colander - The lid = pot + strainer - = Lighter pack (no colander needed) Use: - Boil water + food in the pot - Use the lid as a strainer (pour slowly) - Liquid drains through the holes - Food stays in the pot Limitations: - Small strainer holes (not for pasta) - Better for vegetables, rice, etc. - For large pasta, use a separate colander
"Passage Collection" Cross-Reference
This is the FIRST build where "Passage Collection" is identified as a product line.Previous FAQ references: - "Passage tableware is dishwasher safe" (mentioned 4+ times in prior builds) - = STS has been hinting at this line for the entire build session Now confirmed via this build: - Passage Collection = bowl + mug (so far) - Material: glass-reinforced polypropylene - Properties: dishwasher safe, microwavable, glass-reinforced - = The "practical" sister line to Frontier's "ultralight" Two STS dinnerware lines now confirmed: - Frontier: Ultralight, silicone-based, NOT dishwasher safe, NOT microwavable - Passage: Practical, polypropylene-based, dishwasher safe, microwavable Why two lines: - STS caters to different user priorities - Backpackers want ultralight (Frontier) - Travelers + van lifers want practical (Passage) - The 3-Piece Set (A1237) bridges both
Avoid These Failure Modes
Don't: - Put the pot in a dishwasher (per FAQ — damages anodization) - Microwave the pot (metal) - Use the strainer holes with too much force (deforms lid) - Use caustic cleaners on the Passage Collection - Use abrasive scrubbers on the ceramic non-stick - Heat empty (no water/food = damage risk) - Leave acidic food sitting in the pot (corrodes) - Use steel wool (scratches anodized + non-stick) - Cut inside the pot (silicone damage) Common failure points: - Dishwasher damage to the pot (avoidable with hand-wash) - Ceramic non-stick wearing off (years of use) - Strainer holes clogging (food residue — clean after use) - Passage bowl staining (acidic foods — wash quickly)
