Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Pour Over
Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Pour Over
Collapsible Pour-Over Coffee Filter · 55.7 g / 2.0 oz · Stainless Steel Mesh · Polypropylene Mount Base · Stows in Frontier Kettle

For backcountry baristas everywhere, the super-compact Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Pour Over makes a perfect cup of coffee every time. The Frontier Ultralight Collapsible Pour Over folds flat for storage in its polypropylene mount base, then pops out when needed to make a perfect pour-over brew. The easy-to-clean stainless steel mesh filter is sized just right for one serving (approx. 30g) of ground coffee and formed to hold the grounds but filter the coffee oils for a rich, satisfying cup of coffee. The mount base fits most mugs and wide-mouth bottle rims, and the EU food-grade silicone rubber and stainless steel filter unit slides inside the base for easy transport. It even stows nicely in a Frontier Collapsible Kettle.

2 oz Total
55.7 g / 2.0 oz — the lightest Frontier UL product.
Folds Flat
Pyramid folds flat (4 × 4 × 1 in packed) for ultra-compact storage.
SS Mesh Filter
Super-fine stainless steel mesh — holds grounds but lets the good oils through.
1 Serving
Holds 1 serving (~30g) of ground coffee per brew.
PP Mount Base
Polypropylene mount base — fits most mugs + wide-mouth bottle rims (NEW material in Frontier line).
Stows in Kettle
Per STS — designed to fit inside the Frontier Collapsible Kettle for transport.
Polypropylene Mount Base (NEW MATERIAL IN FRONTIER LINE)
The Pour Over uses a Polypropylene (PP) mount base — a new material for the Frontier line: Material split: - 47% Silicone (the collapsible pyramid body) - 24% 304 Stainless Steel (the mesh filter) - 29% Polypropylene (NEW: the mount base) What Polypropylene adds to the line: - The other Frontier products use 100% silicone + aluminum + glass-filled nylon - PP is a hard plastic (vs flexible silicone) - Lightweight + rigid + food-safe - Common in kitchen tools (spatulas, cutting boards) - Heat-resistant to 100°C+ (boiling water safe) Why PP for the mount base: - Hard surface = stable platform for the pyramid - Doesn't flex when coffee is poured - Heat-tolerant (boiling water contact) - Food-safe (no plasticizers) - Lightweight (~16 g for the base) Where the PP goes: - The mount base "fits most mugs and wide-mouth bottle rims" - The pyramid slides INTO the base for transport - The base supports the pyramid when in use
Collapsible Pyramid (Folds Flat)
The pour over is a collapsible pyramid design: Packed state (per STS): - "Folds flat for storage in its polypropylene mount base" - Packed size: 4 × 4 × 1 in (10.6 × 10.6 × 1.4 cm) - = Incredibly compact (a credit-card-thick packet) In use: - "Pops out when needed to make a perfect pour-over brew" - Open dimensions: 4 × 4 × 4 in (10.2 × 10.2 × 9.5 cm) - Forms a pyramid shape for coffee brewing Pyramid shape advantages: - The shape is the classic pour-over cone - Steam rises through the cone (cools + drips) - Filter mesh holds grounds in the cone - Coffee drips into the mug below Filter design: - "Super-fine stainless steel mesh to hold in grounds but let the good oils through" - "Formed to hold the grounds but filter the coffee oils for a rich, satisfying cup of coffee" - = Better than paper filters (no paper taste, more oils = better flavor)
Stows Inside the Frontier Kettle (NEW INTEGRATION)
Per STS: "It even stows nicely in a Frontier Collapsible Kettle." What "stows nicely" means: - The Pour Over's 4 × 4 × 1 in packed profile fits inside the Frontier Kettle (A1228) - Or fits inside any small pot - = One packed bundle for the morning coffee routine Practical use: - Wake up → pull out the Frontier Kettle - Pull out the Pour Over (was inside the kettle) - Set up the Pour Over on a mug - Boil water in the kettle - Pour water over the coffee grounds - Wait for the coffee to drip through - = One full brewing setup from a single packed bundle Per FAQ: "We don't - the Frontier pour over is designed to fit into our smallest pots/kettles" - The Pour Over is intentionally small - Maximizes portability - "Designed to fit into our smallest pots/kettles"
DISHWASHER SAFE (DIFFERENT FROM OTHER FRONTIER PRODUCTS)
Per STS FAQ: "Is the pour over dishwasher safe? Yes - it can be washed in a dishwasher." This is a DIFFERENT answer from other Frontier products! Why the difference: - The Frontier pots/kettles have hard-anodized aluminum (damaged by dishwasher) - The Pour Over has NO aluminum — just silicone + 304 SS + PP - = No anodization to damage - = Dishwasher-safe Material split: - 47% Silicone (heat-tolerant, dishwasher-safe) - 24% 304 Stainless Steel (dishwasher-safe) - 29% Polypropylene (dishwasher-safe to 100°C+) All 3 materials are dishwasher-tolerant: - Silicone: ~230°C+ tolerance - Stainless steel: dishwasher cycles are fine - Polypropylene: ~120-130°C tolerance (well above dishwasher temps) Practical: - Throw the Pour Over in the dishwasher with your other kitchen gear - No special hand-wash protocol - More convenient than the Frontier pots/kettles
Award-Worthy Backcountry Barista Tool
Per STS: "For backcountry baristas everywhere" The positioning: - For people who want real coffee on trail - Not instant coffee / freeze-dried - Pour-over = the craft method - "Backcountry barista" = the serious coffee drinker in the outdoors Why pour-over for backpacking: - Better than instant (real coffee experience) - Lighter than French press (no metal frame) - Lighter than Aeropress (no plastic body) - Better than percolator (no metal parts to clean) - 2 oz for a real coffee setup = no compromise What "30g of grounds" means: - 1 serving = 1 standard cup of coffee - Per STS FAQ: filter is "sized just right for one serving" - Multiple brews = need more grounds - But 1 serving per brew = perfect single-person setup

DISHWASHER SAFE (The Only Frontier Product That Is!)
Per STS FAQ: "Is the pour over dishwasher safe? Yes - it can be washed in a dishwasher." This is the OPPOSITE of the other Frontier products: - Other Frontier: NOT dishwasher safe (anodized aluminum) - This Pour Over: DISHWASHER SAFE (no aluminum) - = Different material set = different care Why the difference: - The Pour Over has NO anodized aluminum to damage - Material split: 47% silicone + 24% 304 SS + 29% PP - All 3 materials are dishwasher-tolerant - Throw it in the dishwasher with your other dishes Materials & dishwasher tolerance: - Silicone: ~230°C+ tolerance - 304 SS: dishwasher cycles are fine - Polypropylene: ~120°C tolerance (well above dishwasher temps) Practical: - Throw in the dishwasher after a trip - No special hand-wash protocol - More convenient than the Frontier pots/kettles - Use the dishwasher for any cooked coffee residue
Stainless Steel Mesh Filter Care
The mesh filter is the key feature — take care of it:Cleaning: - Rinse immediately after use (prevents coffee oils from drying) - Mild soap + warm water - Soft brush to remove grounds (a small bottle brush works) - The mesh is fine — don't use abrasive scrubbers (degrades the mesh) - Dishwasher safe (per FAQ) Longevity: - 304 SS won't rust - Fine mesh stays effective for years - Coffee oils can build up over time → strip with baking soda If the mesh gets damaged: - The filter is molded into the pyramid (per FAQ: "No - it is molded into the folding 'pyramid'") - = Can't replace the mesh alone - = Need to replace the whole Pour Over if the mesh is damaged - STS sells spares or replacements Pro tip: - After each use, rinse thoroughly - The oils in coffee can build up - Use a small bottle brush for the mesh - Or soak in mild soap + water
Polypropylene Mount Base Care
The Polypropylene mount base is rigid and durable: Care: - Wipe with damp cloth after use - Dishwasher safe - The PP material is heat-tolerant - Don't put in direct flame (degrades PP) Why PP is good for the mount base: - Rigid = stable platform for the pyramid - Doesn't flex when coffee is poured - Heat-resistant - Lightweight The mount base function: - "Fits most mugs and wide-mouth bottle rims" - Wide compatibility (most standard cups) - For smaller mugs, the base hangs over the edge - For wide-mouth bottles, the base sits on the rim Practical: - Hot mug + cool base = no melting - Dishwasher cycles are fine - Long-life (PP is durable)
Avoid These Failure Modes
Don't: - Microwave (PP + metal = bad) - Force the pyramid open (degrades the silicone hinge) - Cut with sharp objects (silicone damage) - Use with non-mug containers (won't fit) - Use if the mesh is damaged (coffee grounds in the cup) - Drop on hard surfaces (silicon + PP can crack) - Store wet for extended periods (potential mildew) Common failure points: - Mesh filter damage (cut by utensils or rocks) - Pyramid hinge stress (over-folding) - Mount base cracking (extreme cold + impact) - Lost in the field (it's small — keep track of it!)
Sustainability & End-of-Life
Material considerations: - Silicone: harder to recycle (specialty facilities) - 304 stainless steel: highly recyclable - Polypropylene: recyclable (code 5) Longevity factors: - Stainless steel mesh: years of use - Silicone pyramid: 20+ years - Polypropylene base: very durable - Total expected life: 5-10+ years At end-of-life: - SS mesh: recyclable as scrap metal - PP base: code 5 recycling (some facilities) - Silicone: landfill mostly Compare to the other Frontier products: - Frontier pots/kettles: NOT dishwasher safe (anodized aluminum) - This Pour Over: IS dishwasher safe (different materials) - = The Pour Over is the more convenient-care coffee accessory
Activity-Specific Tips
- Backcountry barista (primary): Real pour-over coffee on trail. 2 oz for the whole setup. - Bikepacking: Stows in handlebar roll. Brew at cafe stops or camp. - Packrafting: 2 oz is negligible. Brew during lunch stops. - Solo thru-hiking: Combine with Frontier Kettle — full coffee routine from a single packed bundle. - Most important: Dishwasher safe = easy cleanup. Hand-wash not required.
