Set Contents (3 Pieces)
NEW: LidKeep on the Lid (UNIQUE TO THIS SET)
NEW feature unique to this set — the kettle's lid has a LidKeep silicone clip: Per FAQ: "What is the silicone rubber 'clip' on the inside of the lid for? It's a 'lid keep' — you can clip the lid to the side of your kettle to keep the lid clean while cooking in an outdoor kitchen." Why this matters: - Clips the lid to the OUTSIDE of the kettle - Lid hangs out of the way while you cook - Doesn't get dirty sitting on the ground - Doesn't get splashed on the stove - Perfect for outdoor kitchens (no clean counter) The LidKeep system: - Built into the lid (silicone clip on the inside) - Clips to the rim of the kettle - Holds the lid in place while cooking - Easy to remove when needed Why "LidKeep" not "Lid Handle": - Active function: keep the lid OUT of the dirt - Reminds users to keep the lid attached - Differentiates from the older LidKeep in the Detour Kettle (which is also silicone clip but on a different product)
Same Hard-Anodized Aluminum Base (as Standalone Kettle)
The kettle in this set has the same hard-anodized aluminum base as the standalone Frontier Kettle (A1228 built previous turn): Why hard-anodized aluminum for the base: - Premium cookware finish - Non-reactive (no metallic taste) - Excellent thermal conductivity - Rapid heat transfer - Lighter than stainless steel But not induction-capable (per FAQ): - Aluminum is non-magnetic - Induction stoves need ferrous base - Use the Detour Kettle for induction Wide rim (cooking function): - Doubles as small cookpot for 1-person meals - Boil water for freeze-dried meals - Simmer soup - Cook ramen + instant potatoes
Collapsible Cups (Same Family as Detour Mugs)
The 2 cups share the same material DNA as the Detour mug family (also EU food-grade silicone + GR nylon rings): Cup design: - Collapsible for transport - GR nylon rings for shape + heat shield - Holds ~1 cup volume (standard drink) - EU food-grade silicone - Lightweight (~53 g each) Why 2 cups vs 1: - 1.1L kettle = enough water for 2 cups of hot drinks - 2 diners = 2 cups (one each) - Avoids sharing drinks in backcountry
Same 3 Critical FAQ Insights as Standalone Kettle
The set shares the standalone kettle's FAQ answers (same materials):1. NOT dishwasher safe (per FAQ): - "the base and lid are anodized aluminum; the caustic cleanser used in dishwashers will damage the anodization" - Hand-wash only 2. NOT induction compatible (per FAQ): - "for induction compatibility, check out the Detour Kettle!" - Use gas/electric stoves 3. Two-burner stove compatible (per FAQ): - "be sure to keep the flame pattern within the printed ring on the base of the kettle, and ensure the handles are in the vertical position" + NEW FAQ 4. LidKeep purpose (added for this set): - "What is the silicone rubber 'clip' on the inside of the lid for? It's a 'lid keep' — you can clip the lid to the side of your kettle to keep the lid clean while cooking in an outdoor kitchen."
Bundle Savings Math
Set price: $87.95 Individual value: $99.85 (per STS) Savings: $11.90 (~12% bundle discount) Cost breakdown estimate: - 1× Frontier Kettle (built earlier as A1228): $72.95 - 2× Collapsible Cups: ~$13.45 each = ~$26.90 - Total estimated individual: ~$99.85 matches STS claim Why buy the bundle vs solo: - Save $11.90 vs buying solo pieces - Coordinated set (kettle + 2 cups designed together) - One purchase for couples backpacking - Better than buying 1 kettle + 2 different cups separately Why buy solo pieces instead: - Already have 1 cup from another set - Solo camping (don't need 2 cups) - Want a different cup design
Award-Worthy Couples Set
The Frontier Kettle Cook Set is positioned as the couples' compact kitchen in the Frontier UL line: Designed for 2 diners: - 1.1L kettle = 2 cups of hot drinks - 2 cups = one each - Wide rim = small cookpot for shared meals - Compact (10.8 oz total) for backpacking Why 2 cups matter: - Avoids drink sharing in backcountry - Each diner has their own vessel - More comfortable than 1 shared cup - Same weight savings vs solo (1.1L kettle + 1 cup + 1 cup is barely more than 1L kettle + 1 cup)

Position in STS Lineup
Couples Frontier UL Kettle Set (boil + drink for 2)
Hand-Wash Only (Per FAQ) — Anodization Protection
Per STS FAQ: "No - the base and lid are anodized aluminum; the caustic cleanser used in dishwashers will damage the anodization." The set is even more vulnerable (because 2 cups also need cleaning): - Kettle base + lid = anodized aluminum (avoid dishwasher) - 2 cups = silicone + GR nylon (dishwasher safe individually, but the SET is hand-wash only as a kit) Hand-wash protocol for the whole set: 1. Kettle: mild dish soap, soft cloth, rinse, air dry 2. Cups: same gentle cleaning 3. Don't use abrasive scrubbers on the aluminum base 4. Avoid caustic cleaners 5. Air dry fully before storing
2-Person Use Hygiene
With 2 cups for 2 diners, hygiene considerations: Cup care for 2-person use: - Each person uses their own cup (no sharing) - Cups are easy to hand-wash between uses - Set dries in the morning before next tea - Each person can use a different colored cup (if you have multiple sets) Multi-day hygiene: - Wash cups daily - Or rinse + air-dry + use next day - Hot water is naturally sanitizing - UV from sun exposure helps too Travel hygiene: - Cups can hold liquid for transit - Closed = no contamination - Empty + air-dry at destination
LidKeep Lid Care (NEW FOR THIS SET)
The LidKeep silicone clip on the lid: - Built into the lid (cannot be removed) - The clip = small silicone tab on the lid's underside - Catches the kettle rim Care: - Wipe the LidKeep clip with a damp cloth after each use - Don't pull the clip hard (stretching the silicone) - Avoid storing the lid with the clip twisted (stress over time) - The clip is part of the lid (no replacement part) Use: - After boiling, open the lid - Clip the LidKeep tab to the kettle rim - The lid hangs on the side of the kettle - Frees your hand + keeps the lid off dirty ground - When done, unclip and put the lid back on
Avoid These Failure Modes
Don't: - Run in a dishwasher (per FAQ — damages anodization) - Use on induction stoves (per FAQ) - Use caustic cleaners (degrades surfaces) - Use steel wool (scratches anodized layer) - Cut inside the kettle (silicone damage) - Heat empty (no water/food = damage risk) - Leave water standing for days - Store wet in stuff sack - Use near open flame (melts silicone) - Drag across rough surfaces Most common failure: - Dishwasher damage (avoidable with hand-wash) - LidKeep silicone clip stress (over time if pulled hard) - Limescale buildup (clean periodically with vinegar)
Sustainability & End-of-Life
Material considerations: - Aluminum is highly recyclable - Silicone is harder to recycle (specialty facilities) - Glass-reinforced nylon is recyclable - LidKeep silicone = integrated with the lid (no separate recycling) Longevity factors: - Hard-anodized aluminum is durable for decades with care - EU food-grade silicone lasts 20+ years - Glass-reinforced nylon handles are high durability - LidKeep silicone: should last the life of the lid At end-of-life: - Aluminum base + lid: recyclable as scrap metal - Silicone body + cups: landfill mostly - Nylon handles + cup rings: recyclable Compare to Detour equivalents: - Detour: stainless (heavier, more recyclable) - Frontier: aluminum + silicone (lighter, less recyclable) - Trade-off weight vs recyclability
Activity-Specific Tips
- Couples backpacking: Primary use. 10.8 oz for 2-person hot drink system. - Bikepacking: 6 × 6 × 2 in packed = bikepacking-bag friendly. - Packrafting: Pairs with Frontier 6-Piece Dinnerware for full UL couples kitchen. - Tea for 2: 1.1L boils 2 standard mugs in ~3-4 min. - Hot drinks on cold days: Camp ritual with the LidKeep keeping the lid off the ground. - Lightweight 1-person setup: Use 1 cup + share. Or leave 2nd cup at home. - Most important: NEVER put in dishwasher. Hand-wash ONLY.
