Detour Stainless Steel Plate
Detour Stainless Steel Plate
Square Dinnerware Plate · 304 SS + Silicone Base Insert · 9 × 9 × 1 in · 1 L Capacity · Spoon-Matched Curve

The polished stainless steel surface of the Detour Plate makes it not only super durable but also easy to clean. The innovative plate design allows for easy stacking, while the curve between the base and sidewalls perfectly matches Sea to Summit spoons so you can enjoy every last morsel. The silicone rubber insert in the base means the plates will not slide or rattle during transport and the generous 1000ml volume is ideal for hearty meals and hungry campers.

Square 9 × 9 in
Square plate format fits more food in less space than round plates.
1 L Capacity
Generous 1000 ml volume — hearty meals for hungry campers.
Most Durable
304 stainless steel body — strongest plate in STS dinnerware line.
No-Rattle Stack
Silicone base insert grips + absorbs vibration — silent in storage.
Spoon-Matched Curve
Inside curve matches STS spoons — easy cleanup, no food left behind.
Real Plate Feel
Polished SS surface + rigid feel of real dinnerware (not floppy like silicone).
Color Variants (2 Colors)
304 SS + 10% Silicone Material Split (NEW RATIO VS BOWL)
The Plate's 90% 304 SS + 10% Silicone material split is different from the Bowl's 77/23 split: Why the Plate has more SS: - The Plate is square and rigid (the SS structure holds the square shape) - The Bowl is round and collapsible (more silicone needed for the hinge mechanism) - Plate doesn't collapse (no significant silicone hinge needed) - Plate needs rigidity for serving (vs the bowl's flexible soup-serving) Material roles: - 90% 304 SS: Body, base, sidewalls — rigid structure - 10% Silicone: Base insert (no-sliding / no-rattle), small structural accents Same 304 SS alloy as the rest of Detour (304 SS + EU food-grade silicone)Same BPA-free standardSame polished SS finish
Square 9 × 9 in Format (UNIQUE TO PLATES)
Unlike the round Bowls, the Plate is square — a deliberate design choice: Why square plates: - Square corners fit food more efficiently than round curves - More usable surface area per inch of table space - Stack more efficiently (flat edges align) - Modern dining aesthetic (bistro-style) Practical comparison: - A 9" round plate = ~63.6 sq in of usable area - A 9" square plate = 81 sq in of usable area - 27% more food space in the same nominal size Fits: - Standard "place setting" size (dinner plate for 1) - Camp tables that may be narrow (square fits in less space than round's diameter) - Stacking alignment (square edges nestle flat) Sidewall height: - 3.2 cm / 1.25 in - Shallow enough to eat from like a real plate - Not deep enough for soup (use Bowl for that)
Silicone Base Insert — 3 Functions in 1
Same engineering as the Bowl — the silicone base insert does three jobs: 1. No Sliding: - Silicone grips smooth surfaces (table, counter, shelf) - Plate stays put during eating in motion - Important for RV, boat, train 2. No Rattle: - Silicone absorbs metal-on-metal vibration - Plates stack silently in storage 3. Heat Insulation (NEW for Plates!): - Per STS FAQ: "the silicone rubber insert on the base allows you to hold the plate securely while providing insulation from hot contents" - Hot foods don't conduct heat through the steel walls to your hand - Some insulation from hot dishes
Spoon-Matched Curve (Same System as Bowl)
The Plate uses the same large-radius curve as the Detour Bowl, Dinnerware Set Plates/Bowls, Pot, Kettle, and Pouring Pot: Why a matched curve: - Spoon tip fits the curve - Scoop the last morsel from the plate - Reduces food waste - Easier cleanup (smooth curves, no sharp corners) STS utensils that fit: - Folding Camp Spatula & Serving Spoon (Camp Kitchen Tool Kit) - Detour utensils (sibling dinnerware) - Frontier UL Cutlery "Large internal radius" (per STS): - The radius is bigger than a typical plate's rim curve - More space to maneuver utensils - Less corner-trapped food
Hot Content Advisory
Per STS: "Please be aware that this product may become hot when used with hot contents. Handle with use caution." Three factors affecting heat transfer: - Steel walls conduct heat (all-metal plates do) - Silicone base insert insulates the grip area - Shallow walls mean more contact with hot food surface Practical handling: - Wait briefly for hot foods to cool before long handling - Hold with a cloth for very hot foods - Use the silicone base area for cooler grip - Or transfer food to a bowl before handling Don't confuse with: - The plate is heat-tolerant (won't deform or melt) - The OUTSIDE will be hot when contents are hot - Handle accordingly Comparison to Bowl: - Plate has shorter walls → more heat conducted upward - Bowl has taller walls → more heat in the lower section - Plate might feel hotter to the touch per unit time
Award-Winning Plate
The Detour Plate is Award Winning per STS tags — joining the rest of the Detour Stainless Steel line. What makes the Plate special: - Square format for more food per inch of table - Polished SS real-dinnerware feel - Silicone base insert does 3 jobs (grip + anti-rattle + insulation) - Matches the rest of the Detour system (same curve, same materials) - Last critical SKU — completes the Detour dinnerware family
Comparison: Detour Plate vs Bowl

Dishwasher Use ( All Components)
Per STS FAQ: "Yes - Detour tableware can be washed in a dishwasher." Unlike the Pots (which had hard-anodized caveats): - The Plate has NO Click Safe mechanism - 100% stainless steel + silicone = dishwasher tolerant - Whole plate (with silicone base insert) can go in the dishwasher Dishwasher tips: - Standard dishwasher detergent works - Top rack recommended - Use the silverware basket or plate slot - Dry promptly to avoid water spots - Polished surface cleans easily with dishwasher routine
Silicone Base Insert Care
The Plate's silicone base insert is the most important feature to maintain: Cleaning: - Wipe with soapy water + cloth - For stuck food: soak briefly in warm soapy water, then wipe - Don't use abrasive cleaners (roughens the silicone) - Make sure no residue before storing Avoid: - Sharp objects against silicone (cut/tear) - Excessive force when stacking - High-concentration bleach (degrades silicone) - Punctures from metal utensils Heat tolerance: - Tolerates dishwasher heat - Tolerates hot food contact (it's the heat insulator) - Don't expose to open flame Replacement: - If the silicone tears, contact STS for replacement - The Plate is still functional without it (but loses 3 functions: grip, anti-rattle, insulation)
Polished Stainless Steel Care
Polished SS surface requires specific care to maintain finish: Routine care: - Wash with soap and water after each use - Dishwasher safe - Dry promptly to avoid water spots - Polish with soft cloth for shine Stain removal: - For tea/coffee stains: baking soda + warm water paste - For tough spots: stainless cleaner (Bar Keepers Friend) - Avoid steel wool (scratches polished surface) - Avoid bleach (pits over time) Discoloration from hot food: - Heat tinting (rainbow colors) can develop from prolonged hot food contact - Remove with stainless cleaner or vinegar - Cosmetic only Patina (optional): - 304 SS develops slight patina with use - Some users buff to restore; others prefer the patina
Avoid These Failure Modes
Don't: - Microwave the plate (metal = sparks) - Use sharp objects against the silicone base - Use metal scouring pads on the polished surface - Stack heavy items on top of the plate (deforms SS over time) - Drop on hard floors (dents SS, can warp geometry) - Use the silicone insert as a pry point If dropped: - 304 SS resists denting but extreme impact can deform - Check the silicone insert for tears - Minor dents in body don't affect function If the silicone base tears: - Stop using immediately (food can get trapped) - Contact STS for replacement - Plate can be used without insert temporarily
Sustainability & End-of-Life
304 Stainless Steel is highly recyclable: - Recyclable indefinitely - Most metal recyclers accept - High scrap value Silicone is harder to recycle: - Specialty recyclers only - Generally landfill at end-of-life Longevity: - With normal care, 10+ years - The silicone insert may need replacement after heavy use - SS body is durable - Square shape holds better than round over time At end-of-life: - Separate steel from silicone - Recycle SS at scrap metal - Silicone to specialty recycler or landfill
Activity-Specific Tips
- Auto camping: Real-feel plate. Square shape fits narrow tables. - Van life: Stack with other Detour pieces — nests in pot if sized right. - Boat galley: No-rattle silicone base. Square shape fits narrow galley shelves. - RV camping: Daily use as primary plate. Dishwasher safe. - Family camping: Kid-friendly square format. - Cabin / Cottage: Premium permanent fixture. - Road trips: Square fits car cup holders and seat-back trays. - Daily home use: Comparable to home dinner plates at much higher quality. - NOT for backpacking — too heavy. Use Frontier UL for backcountry.
