Kit Components (5 Items)
1. 10L Waterproof Sink
Waterproof 10L basin with broad base and reinforced rim: - Holds shape when full of water and dishes - Broad base for stability (won't tip over) - Stiffened rim for easy handling - Carry handles for transport - Dispose of dishwater away from sensitive water sources (per Leave No Trace) - 10L capacity = handles 4-6 person camp dishes easily
2. Compact Pot Scrubber with Scraper
PP + Nylon brush pot scrubber with integrated scraper: - Scrubs tough grime on cast iron, non-stick, stainless steel - Scrapers for stubborn burnt food - Compact size (fits in the kit) - Durable PP handle + nylon bristles
3. Dual-Sided Washcloth
Dual-sided washcloth (80% Polyester, 20% Nylon) — two surfaces: - Coarse side: Scrubbing burnt food, stuck-on grime - Soft side: Wiping, drying, polishing - Quick-drying - Smaller than the DryLite towel (for hand-washing dishes, body, etc.)
4. Quick-Drying DryLite Towel
DryLite towel — from the STS towel line (Drylite was previously confirmed at $20.95): - Fast-drying microfibers - Absorbent - Compact (much smaller than cotton) - For drying dishes, hands, gear
5. Refillable Wilderness Wash Bottle (NEW — IMPORTANT)
Leak-resistant, refillable 50ml bottle filled with concentrated biodegradable Wilderness Wash: - 50ml HDPE bottle (leak-resistant, won't spill in pack) - Concentrated biodegradable soap — much more eco-friendly than standard dish soap - Refillable — buy larger Wilderness Wash bottle and refill the 50ml Concentrated = small bottle goes a long way. Dilute per instructions for dishwashing. Biodegradable = safe for the environment when disposing of gray water (still must scatter 100m from waterways per LNT).
Leave No Trace Integration (NEW — IMPORTANT)
Leave No Trace Seven Principles are outdoor ethics guidelines. The kit specifically helps with Principle #3: Dispose of Waste Properly. Per the kit design: "Designed to adhere to Leave No Trace Seven Principles - use tools 100m from waterways to minimise impact." Why 100m? - Soap residue from dishwater can harm aquatic ecosystems - Food particles attract wildlife (especially bears) - Even biodegradable soap can disrupt the chemistry of small streams - The 100m rule is the standard distance recommended by Leave No Trace, Inc. Steps for proper LNT dish duty: 1. Collect water from a potable source or natural source 2. Wash dishes 100m+ from any water source 3. Strain food particles (pack out, don't bury) 4. Scatter dishwater broadly (not in one spot) 5. Dispose of all trash in proper receptacles

Cleaning the Sink
Rinse the 10L sink with clean water after use. For tougher grime, use a mild soap (Wilderness Wash itself works). Air dry completely before folding for storage to prevent mildew. Do not machine wash or put in dishwasher.
Pot Scrubber Care
Rinse thoroughly after use to remove soap and food residue. Shake out excess water. Air dry standing bristles-up to drain. The PP handle and nylon bristles are durable and can last years with reasonable care. Replace if bristles become bent, frayed, or fall out.
Washcloth Care
Machine wash with standard detergent (avoid fabric softeners). Air dry or tumble dry low. The 80% Polyester + 20% Nylon construction handles frequent washing. The dual-sided texture (coarse + soft) is preserved when cared for properly.
DryLite Towel Care
Machine wash with standard detergent. No fabric softeners — they reduce absorbency and quick-dry performance. Tumble dry low or air dry. The DryLite towel is the same as the standalone STS Drylite towel ($20.95) — same care rules apply.
Wilderness Wash Refill & Care (NEW — IMPORTANT)
Wilderness Wash is a concentrated, biodegradable soap safe for dishes, body, hair, and laundry. Available in multiple sizes. The 50ml bottle in the kit is REFILLABLE — buy larger Wilderness Wash sizes (250ml, 1L) to refill the 50ml travel bottle. Storage: - Keep the bottle capped when not in use - Wipe any residue off the bottle threads - The HDPE bottle is leak-resistant but always store in upright position when packed - If soap dries/separates in the bottle, add a few drops of water and shake - Do not mix with bleach or other cleaning agents - Store in cool, dry place Refill instructions: - Order Wilderness Wash directly from STS (shop cross-sell link) - Pour larger bottle into 50ml travel bottle using a small funnel - Fill to shoulder of bottle to allow for soap expansion Why biodegradable soap matters: - Standard dish soap can harm aquatic ecosystems - Even "natural" dish soaps can disrupt fish gills - Biodegradable soap breaks down quickly (1-7 days in most conditions) - Still must scatter 100m from waterways per Leave No Trace — biodegradable ≠ no impact
Storage Sack Care
The nylon storage pouch holds all 5 components. Air dry everything fully BEFORE packing into the pouch — trapped moisture causes mildew. The pouch itself can be machine washed if dirty (gentle cycle, air dry).
Storage Between Trips
Store the entire kit dry, with the Wilderness Wash bottle tightly capped, in a cool dry place. Always air-dry all components before packing — trapped moisture in the sink, towels, or washcloth causes mildew and odor over weeks of storage. The compact 5 × 5 × 2 in size fits in any camp kitchen box or gear closet.
LNT Compliance (NEW)
Leave No Trace compliance tips for this kit:Dishwater disposal: - Dispose of dishwater broadly, 100m+ from any water source (stream, lake, river) - Strain food particles first — pack out solid waste - Scatter dirty water over a wide area rather than concentrating it in one spot - Never dump dishwater directly into streams/lakes (even with biodegradable soap) Food waste: - Strain and pack out ALL food particles - Do not bury food waste (animals dig it up) - Burnable waste can be burned if campfire is appropriate - Trash it out if not burnable Soap usage: - Use the minimum amount of Wilderness Wash effective for the dishes - More soap ≠ cleaner — it just creates more gray water to dispose of - Pre-rinse dishes with water when possible Water sourcing: - Get dish water from a potable source (tap, spring, treated) - Avoid washing in streams, lakes, rivers (contaminates water) - If collecting from a natural source, use a clean container dedicated to dish water These practices protect the environment AND prevent wildlife encounters.
Activity-Specific Tips
- Car camping: Sink on a picnic table, fill with water from a jug, wash/ rinse dishes, dump broad-scatter 100m from water sources - Backpacking: The compact 9.4 oz makes it feasible to bring on multi-day treks. The 10L sink handles a small group's dishes easily. - Paddle touring: Waterproof sink is essential — water is everywhere but not for dishwater. Use the sink to wash/rinse, dump properly on shore. - Family camping: Handles larger group dish duty (up to 6 person dishes per sink load) - Hygiene backup: Wilderness Wash can be used for body/hair/hand-washing laundry if needed - Multi-kit use: Multiple kits can be used together for larger group camping
