Aeros Down Pillow
Aeros Down Pillow
Sleep System · Camp Pillow · Ultralight

The Aeros Down Pillow delivers enhanced comfort with a down-topped, air-supported design and soft-touch nylon face. Its rectangular shape provides ample sleep space, while up to 12cm thickness and adjustable firmness ensure personalised support. Quick inflation and deflation are effortless with the mini XPRESS valve. Made with low-impact, certified recycled polyester and a hydrolysis-resistant TPU air chamber, it offers durable, ultralight performance. Included PillowLock System keeps your pillow secure all night.

Ultralight
Just 2.5 oz (70g) for the regular size — the lightest pillow in the Aeros lineup. Packs smaller than a fist.
Adjustable Firmness
Inflate to your perfect loft in 3–4 breaths via the mini XPRESS valve. Soft to firm in seconds.
Down Comfort
Plush duck-down layer over a quiet, supportive air chamber. No crinkling, no foam smell.
Anti-Slip
3M™ PillowLock System patches lock the pillow to your sleeping mat — no more 3am pillow hunts.
Quick Set-Up
Mini XPRESS valve inflates in 3–4 breaths and deflates in seconds for fast pack-down.
Eco-Certified
Made with RCS-certified recycled nylon face fabric — third-party verified recycled content.
Hybrid Down-over-Air Design
The Aeros Down Pillow combines two technologies: a supportive TPU air chamber beneath and a plush down-insulated top layer above. The air chamber provides the adjustable, packable structure; the down layer provides the soft, quiet, cushioned surface you actually sleep on. The combination weighs far less than a solid-foam pillow of equivalent comfort.
Plush Down Top Layer
The 2026 version uses the soft lining fabric from the Ascent sleeping bag on its upper surface for next-to-skin comfort. A plush duck-down layer sits beneath this soft-touch fabric — natural, quiet (no crinkling like some synthetic insulations), and retains loft well over time. Unlike solid foam, the down layer can be fluffed and re-shaped after unpacking.
Soft-Touch 20D Recycled Nylon Face
The upper pillow surface is a soft-touch, breathable 20D recycled nylon — RCS (Recycled Claim Standard) certified. Lightweight, soft against the skin, and breathable enough to avoid clammy condensation on warm nights.
Rectangular Shape
The rectangular footprint (vs. rounded/oval shapes on cheaper pillows) provides ample sleep space — head, neck, and shoulder can all rest on the pillow without rolling off the edge mid-sleep. Mirrors the shape of a home pillow for familiar, comfortable sleeping.
Hydrolysis-Resistant TPU Air Chamber
The internal air chamber is built from TPU polyether laminate — engineered to resist hydrolysis (the chemical breakdown of TPU when exposed to humidity over time). This is the long-term durability issue that kills cheaper inflatable pillows after a couple of seasons in storage; the polyether-laminate formulation resists this and is built for years of use.
Mini XPRESS Valve
The mini XPRESS valve is Sea to Summit's ultralight inflation valve — a one-way intake valve that opens on the inhale (no air escaping back out) and a wide-deflation port for fast pack-down. Small profile keeps weight down and won't dig into your neck when inflated.
Up to 12cm Thickness
Maximum loft of 12cm (~4.7") — comparable to a standard household pillow. The down layer adds surface cushioning on top of the full air-chamber height.
3M™ PillowLock System
Included PillowLock System patches are adhesive silicone dots that stick to the bottom of the pillow and the surface of most camping sleeping mats. Once applied, the patches grip the mat and prevent the pillow from sliding off during sleep. Since 2019, all Sea to Summit pillows use the PillowLock System — patches are reusable: peel, wash, reapply. Compatible with most nylon, polyester, and synthetic sleeping mat surfaces. Not compatible with waterproofed or silicone-treated mat surfaces.
Ultralight Weight Class
Sea to Summit's "Weight" performance scale rates this pillow as Ultralight — the lowest weight tier. The Regular size comes in at just 2.5 oz / 70g, comparable to a small energy bar. Thru-hikers, ultralight backpackers, and bikepackers prioritize this metric.
Ultra Compact Packability
Sea to Summit's "Packability" scale rates this pillow as Ultra Compact — the smallest packed-volume tier. The Regular deflates to roughly 4 × 2 × 2 inches (smaller than a fist), fitting in jacket pockets, hipbelt pouches, or clipped to a pack strap.
Regular / Large / XL
Three sizes to match different body types and sleep styles. Regular (13 × 9 × 5") fits most back sleepers and side sleepers who want a compact pillow. Large (17 × 11 × 5") adds surface area for restless sleepers or those who want a fuller footprint. XL (23 × 15 × 5") is the largest — for side sleepers who need extra width or anyone who wants full pillow coverage. All three sizes use the same hybrid construction and valve system.

Cleaning (per Sea to Summit FAQ)
Hand wash only — not machine washable. Close the valve before cleaning, use warm water with a gentle kneading motion (don't scrub aggressively, can damage the TPU seams and disturb the down layer), and allow to air dry completely. Do not use a dryer — heat can damage the TPU air chamber, warp the welded seams, and harm the down layer. For the down top layer, a small amount of technical wash (like Nikwax Down Wash) is preferable to regular soap, which can strip natural oils from the down over time.
Drying
Air dry only. After any cleaning or exposure to moisture, fully deflate the pillow and hang or lay flat in a well-ventilated area. Ensure the down layer is completely dry before long-term storage — any retained moisture will cause the down to clump and create mildew risk in the TPU chamber. Do not tumble dry or expose to direct high heat.
Inflation & Deflation
To inflate: open the mini XPRESS valve, blow into the port (one-way intake flap lets air in without escaping), 3–4 breaths fills a Regular-sized pillow. To deflate: flip the valve cap to the deflation position — the wide port vents air rapidly. Always close the valve fully before use to prevent slow leak drift. Pro tip from Sea to Summit: turn the Airstream Pump from your Sea to Summit sleeping mat inside-out and use it to inflate the pillow — eliminates breath-moisture buildup inside the air chamber (which can degrade TPU over years of use).
Valve Care
Keep the mini XPRESS valve free of sand, dust, and debris — small particles can prevent the one-way silicone flap from sealing properly, causing slow deflation overnight. If the valve sticks or doesn't hold air, check for debris and rinse with clean water. Do not use lubricants on the valve mechanism — they can attract dirt and gum up the sealing surfaces.
Air Chamber Pressure
The TPU air chamber is designed for breath or pump inflation — do not use compressed air or over-pressurize. Over-inflation stresses the welded seams. You'll feel when the chamber is full — firm but not hard. If the chamber feels tight or looks stretched, release some air until it yields slightly under hand pressure.
Hydrolysis Resistance (NEW — IMPORTANT)
Standard TPU air bladders can break down via hydrolysis — a chemical reaction with humidity that makes the TPU become brittle and crack over time, often after 2–3 years in storage. This pillow's TPU polyether laminate is hydrolysis-resistant, meaning the chamber maintains flexibility and air-tightness for years longer than standard TPU. To preserve this: store deflated and dry, don't leave inflated for weeks on end, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct heat.
3M™ PillowLock Patches
The PillowLock patches are reusable silicone adhesive dots. To maintain grip: peel the patches off the mat and pillow bottom, rinse with clean water, air dry, and reapply. Adhesive performance diminishes over time as the silicone surface picks up dust and oils — replacement patches are available from Sea to Summit or 3M. Apply patches to a clean, dry pillow bottom for best adhesion.
Down Layer Care
The duck-down top layer is a permanent part of the pillow — it cannot be removed or washed separately. If the down becomes damp (condensation, humidity), fully deflate and air dry in sunlight or a warm, dry space. Down is naturally resistant to odor and microbial growth when dry; the main risk is moisture retention causing clumping or mildew. A periodic sun-air refresh (deflated, open valve, in sunlight for an hour) helps aerate the down and prevent odor buildup.
Long-Term Storage
Store fully deflated in a loose shape inside the included stuff sack — do not compress tightly. The TPU chamber can take a set if stored compressed, which may affect its ability to hold air. Before first use after long storage, always test inflation and check for slow leak by inflating and leaving overnight. The TPU bladder may need a few inflation cycles to "break in" if stored flat for a long period.
Puncture Repair
The TPU air chamber can be repaired with a Sea to Summit TPU repair patch (sold separately or included in some sleep kit bundles) or any TPU/polyurethane repair tape. Clean and dry the puncture area, apply the patch, and allow to cure fully (usually 12–24 hours) before re-inflating. Do not use silicone-based sealants on TPU — they won't adhere properly. Deep punctures or seam failures are not repairable and the pillow should be replaced.
Travel Tip
The Regular size deflates to roughly 4 × 2 × 2" (smaller than a fist) and weighs 2.5 oz / 70g — fits inside a jacket pocket, hipbelt pouch, or clipped to a pack strap. For travel, it turns an airline neck pillow into a proper night's sleep. The 3M PillowLock patches work on hotel bedsheets too (slightly), keeping the pillow from sliding off a bare mattress.
