To put these pants to the test, we took them to the Dolomite mountains in northeastern Italy. There, we trekked through the mountains and explored caves. The verdict? Water-repellent and UV-resistant tech made these pants ideal for mountain hiking. The loose fit with bungees at the hem added the adjustability we needed for a comfortable feel.

Tested in the Dolomite Mountains

Loose Fit with Bungee Hem
"The loose fit with bungees at the hem added the adjustability we needed for a comfortable feel" — the loose, roomy fit provides freedom of movement for hiking, climbing, and scrambling. "Bungees at the hem" let you cinch the pants tight at the ankle to keep out debris, snow, and water, or loosen them for ventilation on hot days. Washing
Machine wash cold with like colors. The DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish requires gentle care to maintain its water-shedding properties. Use a technical wash cleaner designed for outdoor/waterproof garments. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which can degrade the DWR coating and the UV-resistant finish.
Drying
Tumble dry low or hang dry. The DWR finish benefits from occasional tumble drying on low heat to reactivate the water-shedding properties. Avoid high heat, which can damage the bungee adjusters and the elastic waistband.
DWR Reapplication
To restore the water-repellent finish after extensive washing, use a technical fabric DWR spray or wash-in treatment. The treatment creates a water-shedding layer on the outer fabric that helps maintain the waterproof performance over the life of the pants. Reapply after every 5-10 washes for optimal performance.
Storage
Store hanging or folded in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing in damp conditions, as moisture can compromise the DWR finish. Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading of the Black/Summit White colorway.
