Wipe the blade and handle with a soft, dry cloth after each use. For rescue tools used in field-dressing or seatbelt-cutting scenarios, prompt cleaning of any biological or synthetic residue is essential to prevent corrosion and staining. For deeper cleaning, use mild soap and water, then dry thoroughly.
Lubrication
Apply a small drop of light machine oil or knife-specific lubricant (such as Benchmade's BlueLube) to the AXIS lock bar interfaces and pivot every few months — or after cleaning. The Tactical Triage's rescue-tool positioning means the knife may sit in a glove compartment or emergency kit for long periods; periodic lubrication keeps the deployment action reliable when it matters.
Sharpening
The Tactical Triage is covered by Benchmade's LifeSharp program: free lifetime professional sharpening, cleaning, oiling, and re-calibration. Send or visit any authorized Benchmade dealer. For home maintenance, the serrated edge requires specialized sharpening technique — use a serrated knife sharpener or a tapered diamond rod that matches the scallop geometry. Sharpen each scallop individually to maintain the cutting performance.
Window Punch Maintenance
The integrated window punch requires minimal maintenance but should be kept clear of debris that could interfere with emergency deployment. The carbide or hardened steel tip is built for repeated use and will maintain its glass-breaking capability over the life of the knife — verify it periodically with a light test on an appropriate surface.
