How to Use
Hold the ferro rod near your tinder pile at an angle that lets the sparks fall directly onto the tinder. Use the back of a knife blade (or the included striker if your model has one) to scrape firmly down the rod — the harder the strike, the hotter the spark. Direct the sparks onto your prepared tinder bundle until it ignites, then build the fire from there. The process works in any orientation — pointing down into a fire lay, sideways into a tinder bundle, or up into elevated tinder for difficult conditions.
Tinder Setup
Successful fire starting depends as much on tinder quality as spark quality. Use the included quickLIGHT waterproof tinder for guaranteed ignition in any conditions, or supplement with natural tinders (dry grass, birch bark shavings, fatwood, char cloth) for extended fire-starting capability. Fine, fluffy, bone-dry tinder catches the smallest sparks; coarse or wet tinder needs more heat or a different ignition source.
Rod Replacement
When the ferro rod wears down to where strikes no longer produce reliable sparks, unscrew the spent rod from the threaded capsule and replace it with a fresh ferro rod of the correct size. The replaceable design extends the tool's useful life indefinitely rather than disposing of the entire unit when the rod wears out. Replacement rods are available from Benchmade and most outdoor retailers.
Tinder Storage & Replacement
The O-ring sealed capsule keeps stored tinder dry during normal use — replace the O-ring if it ever shows signs of damage or wear to maintain the waterproof seal. After using the included tinder, restock with quickLIGHT or other waterproof tinder for continued field readiness. Dry natural tinders can be stored in the capsule for short periods but are not recommended for long-term storage in humid conditions.
Long-Term Storage
Store the Ferro Rod in a dry place when not in use. Verify the O-ring seal is intact before long-term storage — the seal is what keeps the stored tinder usable. The anodized aluminum capsule is durable and corrosion-resistant, but periodically check the threads for debris that could affect rod replacement.

Returns & Exchanges:

If you received the wrong size or wish to exchange an item, it must be returned in original condition—unused, uninstalled, and with all packaging intact.
