Outdoor Research Women's Carbide Bibs-Plus 2027

Versatile Waterproof Performance for Both Sides of the Resort Boundary — the Carbide Bib is built to perform on both sides of the resort boundary. They are designed to adapt to whatever conditions and terrain are on the menu, whether layering up for a cold and deep day inbounds or staying fast and light on backcountry tours. They utilize 3-layer Pertex® waterproof protection, and their feature-forward and intuitive design details are geared for utility and versatility. Dual side zips make it easy to dump excess heat when sweating in the skin track, and an avalanche beacon-specific pocket keeps important safety gear within quick and easy access. These bibs are perfected with durable, stretchy suspender webbing that's as comfortable as it is functional. For those who prefer a single kit that punches above its weight for resort and backcountry functionality, the Carbide Bib is an excellent choice.

Performs on Both Sides of the Resort Boundary
"The Carbide Bib is built to perform on both sides of the resort boundary" — the Carbide is designed to handle both inbounds resort skiing and backcountry touring, which is rare for a single piece of gear. Most resort bibs are too heavy and bulky for backcountry, while most touring bibs are too thin for resort conditions. The Carbide balances both, making it the go-to choice for skiers who split their time between lift-served and skin-track days.
3-Layer Pertex® Waterproof Protection
"3-layer Pertex® waterproof protection" — the Carbide uses a 3-layer Pertex® fabric, which is a high-performance waterproof/breathable membrane. The 3-layer construction (face fabric + membrane + inner liner) is the most durable and reliable waterproof technology available, providing full protection from rain, snow, and wind while allowing moisture vapor to escape during high-output activity.
Dual Side Zips for Venting and Heat Dump
"Dual side zips make it easy to dump excess heat when sweating in the skin track" — the dual side zippers run along the side of each leg, allowing the rider to vent heat during high-output moments. The skin track (uphill skinning route) can be a sweat-fest, and the ability to open the zippers for instant cooling is critical. The zippers can also be used for easy on/off without removing boots.
Avalanche Beacon-Specific Pocket
"An avalanche beacon-specific pocket keeps important safety gear within quick and easy access" — the Carbide has a dedicated pocket designed for an avalanche safety beacon. The pocket is positioned for easy access during a rescue scenario, where every second counts. For backcountry skiers, this is a critical safety feature that should not be compromised.
Durable, Stretchy Suspender Webbing
"Durable, stretchy suspender webbing that's as comfortable as it is functional" — the suspenders on the Carbide are built to last through years of abuse while providing the comfort and adjustability needed for all-day wear. The stretchy webbing allows the bibs to move with the rider's body during dynamic activities, and the durable construction handles the constant wear of putting on/taking off the suspenders over a helmet or under a pack.
Layering for Cold, Deep Days Inbounds
"Whether layering up for a cold and deep day inbounds" — the Carbide's 3-layer Pertex® construction provides the waterproof and windproof protection needed for deep powder days and cold temperatures at the resort. The bibs can be worn with base layers and insulation for cold conditions, and the dual side zips allow for venting when the rider warms up on the chair lift or in the lift line.
Staying Fast and Light on Backcountry Tours
"Staying fast and light on backcountry tours" — the Carbide's 3-layer Pertex® construction provides the waterproof protection needed for backcountry skiing, but the bib design (vs. a full bib with heavy insulation) keeps the weight and bulk down for fast-and-light touring. The dual side zips allow for quick venting during skinning, and the stretchy suspender webbing keeps the bibs comfortable during long tours.
Dual Side Zips for Venting, Layering, and On/Off
The Carbide's dual side zips serve multiple functions: venting during high-output activity (skin track), layering up or down with different insulation levels, and easy on/off without removing boots. The full-length side zips run from the waist to the ankle, allowing complete access to the legs for layering changes. This is a critical feature for backcountry skiers who need to adjust their layering system based on conditions and activity level throughout the day.
Outdoor Research Quality and Infinite Guarantee®
Built by Outdoor Research — a Seattle-based outdoor gear company with decades of experience in technical apparel — the Carbide Bib is backed by OR's Infinite Guarantee® (lifetime guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship). The combination of 3-layer Pertex® waterproofing, dual side zips, avalanche beacon pocket, and stretchy suspenders makes the Carbide a long-term investment for resort and backcountry skiers.

Washing
Machine wash the Carbide Bibs in cold water with a mild technical fabric wash (like Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers Performance Wash). Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, which can damage the 3-layer Pertex® membrane, the DWR coating, and the suspender webbing. Close all zippers (pocket and side zips) before washing. Use a gentle cycle and rinse thoroughly.
Drying
Tumble dry the Carbide on low heat or hang to air dry. The 3-layer Pertex® construction dries relatively quickly thanks to the membrane's breathability. Use a low-heat tumble dry cycle (or a brief cycle with a clean tennis ball) to help reactivate the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating. Avoid high heat, which can damage the membrane, the DWR coating, and the suspender webbing.
DWR Refresh
The 3-layer Pertex® fabric has a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment on the outer face fabric that helps water bead up and roll off. When water stops beading (the fabric "wets out" and water soaks in), refresh the DWR with a spray-on product (like Nikwax TX.Direct Spray-On). Apply per the product instructions and air dry. This is especially important for the Carbide since it's used in wet snow conditions where water resistance is critical.
Zipper Care
The dual side zippers are critical for venting and on/off. Keep them clean and free of debris (dirt, sand, salt) by rinsing with fresh water and brushing gently with a soft brush. If the zippers start to stick, apply a zipper lubricant (like Nikwax Zipper Care) to maintain smooth operation. Don't force a stuck zipper — work it back and forth gently to clear any obstruction.
Storage
Store the Carbide Bibs in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid leaving the bibs in direct sunlight for extended periods — UV exposure can degrade the 3-layer Pertex® membrane and fade the colors over time. Don't store in a hot car — extreme heat can damage the membrane, the DWR coating, and the suspender webbing. Hang the bibs by the suspenders or fold them flat.
Repair
Small tears or holes in the Pertex® fabric can be repaired with Tenacious Tape (works on most technical fabrics) or by an outdoor gear repair service. For 3-layer Pertex® membrane failures, dual side zipper damage, or suspender webbing issues, contact Outdoor Research for warranty service — the Infinite Guarantee® covers defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product.
