TPU Coating
Thermoplastic polyurethane coating on the back of the 300D recycled polyester face for water resistance and abrasion durability
Cleaning
Wipe the 300D recycled polyester exterior with a damp cloth and mild soap. For deep cleaning, hand-wash in lukewarm water with a mild technical detergent — do not machine wash. The TPU coating on the back of the 300D recycled polyester face can delaminate under machine agitation, and the clear window can fog or scratch. Empty all internal mesh pockets and the secure-zip top-lid pocket, then close all zippers before cleaning.
Drying
Air dry completely at room temperature with the lid open and all compartments unzipped. Wipe the interior dry to prevent mildew in the four internal mesh pockets and the lid pocket. Never use a clothes dryer, hair dryer, or place the gear box near a radiator, campfire, or hot exhaust — direct heat can delaminate the TPU coating, warp the metal kickstands' hinges, and damage the clear window.
Storage
Fold the metal kickstands down flat against the sides before storing to save space. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight with the lid slightly open or the zippers unbuckled to allow air circulation. Long-term storage with the lid sealed traps residual moisture and can cause the mesh pockets and the TPU coating interior to develop mildew.
Metal Kickstands (Internal Support)
The internal metal kickstands fold up for rigid support in use and fold down when storing. Confirm the kickstands are fully deployed (and locked) before loading heavy gear to prevent the box from collapsing under weight. Inspect the hinges periodically — repeated heavy loads can stress the pivot. Wipe the kickstands dry after wet use to prevent rust.
Internal Mesh Pockets (4) & Secure-Zip Top-Lid Pocket
The four internal mesh pockets and the secure-zip top-lid pocket provide added organization for small items. The mesh weave is durable but can tear with sharp or pointed objects — store knives, multi-tools, and sharp tools in sheaths or pouches, not loose in the mesh. Brush dust from the secure-zip lid pocket zipper and lubricate sparingly with silicone-based lubricant if the slider stiffens.
External Sleeve Pockets
The two external sleeve pockets offer quick-access storage for items like camp tags, gloves, or headlamps. They are open-top, not sealed — don't store anything here that can't survive rain or dust. Empty before long-term storage.
Clear Window
The clear window on top of the box lets you see the contents without opening. The clear film is durable but can be scratched by abrasive surfaces or chemicals — clean with a soft, lint-free cloth and mild soap only. Avoid window cleaner or ammonia-based products, which cloud the clear film over time.
Duffel-Style Handles & Hook-and-Loop Wrap
The duffel handles along with the side handles give multiple carry options. The duffel handles can be connected with a hook-and-loop wrap for easier two-handed hauling when carrying the full 5 lbs 8.2 oz (2500 g) capacity. Inspect the handle webbing attachment points and the hook-and-loop wrap periodically — heavy loads over years of use can wear these points. Replace the hook-and-loop wrap if it loses grip.
Stackability
The Base Camp Gear Box can be stacked on other compatible TNF gear boxes — never stack more than two boxes high, and never load a stacked box with more weight than the bottom box can support. Confirm the boxes are level before stacking, and place the stacked pair on flat, stable ground (not on soft soil that can shift).
Daisy-Chain Webbing Lash Points
The daisy-chain webbing on top offers lash points for securing additional items on top of the box (camp chairs, sleeping pads). Confirm webbing threads are intact before lashing heavy items. Don't lash items heavier than the box itself — the daisy-chain is for light loads only.
DWR Re-Proofing
The non-PFC DWR finish on the 300D recycled polyester face can be refreshed when water no longer beads on the surface. Apply a PFC-free DWR spray treatment rated for polyester with TPU backing and let cure per the spray's instructions. Avoid applying to the clear window film.
Material Notes
Do not dry clean, bleach, iron, or use solvents on the 300D recycled polyester surface or the clear window film. Keep the gear box away from open flames and high heat sources (campfires, grills, hot car interiors). The TPU coating can be scratched by rough surfaces — avoid dragging the box across concrete, asphalt, or stone walls.
