Women's Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Bottom

100% Merino. 100% capable. Our Women's Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Bottom is always ready for what's ahead and what's next. With a fit updated to improve functionality while enhancing aesthetics for a range of body shapes and a flatlock seam construction designed to minimize chafing, comfort is never in question. Get yourself a pair or two of our best base layer pants and conquer the cold with more confidence than ever.

Merino-Lined Elastic Waistband
The waistband is lined with the same 100% Merino fabric as the rest of the garment — no exposed elastic against skin, no pressure points during long days, no plastic next-to-skin discomfort.
Mid-Rise Fit, Updated Cut
Updated fit sits at mid-rise with a contour through the hip and thigh that follows the body without bunching. Cut to work for a range of body shapes and stay put under bibs, shells, and midlayers.
100% Merino Wool Midweight
Single-jersey 100% Merino wool interlock knit at midweight 250g/m² delivers natural moisture management, body-temperature regulation, and odor resistance for cold-weather starts and stops.
Flatlock Seam Construction
Flatlock seams throughout the legs and waist sit flat against skin to minimize chafing under pants, bibs, and shells. Critical for long days on snow or trail where seam comfort decides the day.
Slim Base-Layer Fit
Slim fit intended to follow the contours of the body without bunching. Layers cleanly under insulated pants, bibs, and shells and stays put when you reach, step, or stride.
30.5" Inseam (Size Medium)
Sized to fit without dragging at the ankle or riding up under a ski boot or hiking shoe. Length works for most inseams; the slim cut means no excess fabric to tuck or bunch.
Multi-Activity Versatility
Built for skiing, hiking, climbing, snowshoeing, and cold-weather running. Pairs with the matching Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew or 1/4 Zip to regulate as one system.

Washing
Machine wash warm on a gentle cycle with like colors. Use a mild detergent — avoid fabric softeners and bleach, which coat the Merino fibers and reduce moisture-wicking and odor-resistance performance.
Drying
Tumble dry low. High heat can shrink Merino wool fibers and damage the interlock knit over time. For longest life, lay flat to dry when possible — air-dried Merino retains its shape and loft through more wear cycles.
Ironing & Decoration
Cool iron as needed. Do not iron decorations. Printed graphics, heat-transfer logos, and color-block panels can scorch or peel under direct high heat — use a press cloth if ironing is necessary.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino wool, leaving fibers brittle and reducing the temperature-regulating properties that make the fabric perform.
Waistband Care
The Merino-lined elastic waistband will hold its stretch longer if you avoid prolonged drying at high heat. Tumble-dry low and remove promptly; the elastic recovers its original shape best when not heat-set.
Storage
Store folded in a dry, breathable space. Merino's natural odor resistance means you can wear it multiple times between washes — a key performance feature that makes it ideal for multi-day trips and travel.

Merino Layer System — SW019242

Built For

Cold-Weather Hiking
25° – 45°F
Layer under hiking pants or a softshell on shoulder-season trails. Mid-rise waist stays put under a pack hipbelt; flatlock seams stop inner-thigh chafe on long miles.
Skin-Track Days
10° – 30°F
Touring and lift-served laps under ski pants or bibs. The slim fit stays put inside the boot without bunching at the ankle, and the Merino-lined waistband is comfortable under a snug bib.
Daily Winter Wear
15° – 40°F
Under jeans or cords on the morning commute, the dog walk, the barn. Midweight 250 stays comfortable indoors under trousers and warm enough outdoors on its own at the lower end of the range.
Sleep & Camp
Sub-Freezing
Midweight 250 sleeps warm without overheating in a bag. Merino's odor resistance means multi-night trips stay comfortable between washes — and the slim cut layers cleanly over long underwear on cold nights.
Complete The System

Pair It With The Top

The Women's Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew matches weight, fit, and fabric so your upper and lower layers regulate as one system — no hot torso, cold legs.

  • Same 250g/m² midweight matched warmth
  • 100% Merino wool identical fabric feel
  • Slim base-layer fit layers as a system
  • Flatlock seams no chafe under packs
Add An Outer Layer

Top It With A Shell Pant

For full output in real weather, layer a softshell or hardshell pant over the bottom. Merino manages moisture from the inside; the shell blocks wind, snow, and rain from the outside.

  • Softshell pant breathable for high output
  • Hardshell pant full weather protection
  • Insulated pant deep-cold static days
  • Ski bib sealed waist for storm days

Prepared with intention.

Every product is carefully inspected and handled by our team before it ships. From fit and function to final details, we make sure each piece is ready for the outdoors ahead—so you can focus on the experience, not the gear.
