Men's Intraknit™ Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew

This minimalist-style crew is anything but insignificant. Our Men’s Intraknit™ Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew is a lightweight, super-moveable top, made for all of your most extreme cold-weather activities. With Merino wool yarns and gender-specific ventilation perfectly placed to maximize thermoregulation and breathability during high-intensity activities, it helps amplify moisture management, movement, and comfort. When you’re in our best base layers, you’re ready for anything.

Intraknit™ Technology
Insulation, articulation, and ventilation are seamlessly integrated into a single 3D-knit construction. The Intraknit™ process maps different knit structures into one garment — denser knit where you need warmth, open knit where you need to dump heat — so the base layer regulates itself instead of relying on the wearer to vent manually.
Heavyweight Thermal Warmth
Built for the most extreme cold-weather activities, the Thermal weight class delivers the deep-winter warmth of a heavyweight 250g/m² base layer in a knit that feels lighter than a traditional interlock crew. The Intraknit™ construction reduces material where it isn’t needed without sacrificing the warmth you’d expect from a heavyweight.
Gender-Specific Ventilation
The men’s Intraknit™ Thermal Merino is knit with ventilation zones placed where men run hottest during high-output activity — typically the upper chest, underarm, and upper back. The result is targeted heat dumping without compromising the warmth zones that matter in sub-freezing conditions.
3D Mapping For Tailored Fit & Movement
3D mapping results in a near-custom fit and freedom of movement. The knit follows the contours of the body rather than hanging from the shoulders; stretch zones are placed where the arm reaches forward, where the torso twists, and where the hip flexes on a skin-track or a steep trail.
Merino + Polyester + Elastane Blend
53% Merino Wool, 44% Polyester, 3% Elastane. Merino does the work against the skin — moisture management, temperature regulation, odor resistance. Polyester adds durability and shape retention through wash and wear; elastane delivers the stretch recovery the Intraknit™ construction depends on for the tailored fit.
Slim Base-Layer Fit
Our slim fit is intended to follow the contours of the body without excess bulk. The Intraknit™ Thermal Crew layers cleanly under an insulated jacket, vest, or shell; the 3D-knit construction eliminates the bunching that traditional flat-knit base layers create at the elbows and waist when the body moves.
Minimal Seams
The 3D-knit construction eliminates most traditional seams — no shoulder seam, no underarm seam, no side seam in the conventional sense. The result is a base layer with fewer chafe points under packs, harnesses, and shells, and a cleaner fit that holds its shape through hundreds of wear cycles.

Washing
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors. Cold water protects the Intraknit™ 3D-knit construction and the Merino fibers; the gentle cycle keeps the ventilation zones from stretching out of shape. Turn the crew inside out before washing to reduce surface abrasion on the outer knit.
Drying
Dry flat. Do not tumble dry. Tumble drying can distort the mapped ventilation and insulation zones of the Intraknit™ construction. Lay the crew flat on a clean towel and reshape as it dries — air-drying protects the 3D-knit geometry and preserves the tailored fit through hundreds of wear cycles.
Bleach
Do not bleach. Bleach damages Merino wool fibers and degrades the polyester backbone that gives the Intraknit™ Thermal its shape retention.
Ironing & Decoration
Cool iron as needed. Do not iron decoration. Direct high heat on printed graphics or color-block panels will scorch the surface; the Intraknit™ knit recovers from light wrinkles with steam or a cool iron set low.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino and damage the elastane fibers that drive the Intraknit™ stretch recovery.

Merino Layer System — SW019286

Built For

Sub-Freezing Hiking
Below 20°F
The thermal 250g/m² weight class handles the deep-winter trailhead and the sub-zero ridge. The Intraknit™ ventilation zones dump heat on the climbs before the base layer soaks through — the warmth comes back when you stop moving and the air gaps close.
Skiing & Snowboarding
5° – 25°F
Lift-served and backcountry days in real cold. The 3D-knit Intraknit™ construction stretches with the skin-track stride and the mogul run without bunching at the elbows; the mapped ventilation keeps the boot-pack from becoming a sweat lodge.
Ice Climbing & Mountaineering
Below 10°F
Static belay stints in bitter cold and high-output pitches that swing from one to the other. The Intraknit™ mesh ventilation dumps the heat of an ice-axe swing; the mapped insulation zones hold warmth during the long hanging belay. Merino against the skin manages the moisture shift between output states.
Sleep & Camp
Sub-Freezing
Sub-freezing nights in a tent or snow shelter where the base layer needs to wear through dinner, the evening, and the morning without a wash. The Intraknit™ mapped zones keep the body warm during static camp hours; Merino’s odor resistance means the base layer stays comfortable across multi-day cold-weather trips.
Complete The System

Pair It With The Bottom

The Men’s Intraknit™ Thermal Merino Base Layer Bottom matches weight, fabric, and the 3D-knit construction so your upper and lower layers regulate as one system. Mapped ventilation on the legs + mapped ventilation on the chest = the body’s heat-dump zones working together instead of in isolation.

  • Same 53/44/3 fabric matched weight + feel
  • Intraknit™ 3D-knit identical construction
  • Gender-specific ventilation men’s mapped zones
  • Slim base-layer fit layers cleanly under bibs
Add A Shell

Top It With A Windshell

For real weather on top of the thermal weight, layer a windshell, insulated jacket, or hardshell over the Intraknit™ Thermal Crew. The Intraknit™ ventilation handles moisture from the inside; the shell handles wind and precip from the outside. The 3D-knit fit keeps the layering flat under a pack’s hip-belt and a harness’ leg-loop straps.

  • Windshell cuts chill on exposed ridges
  • Insulated jacket deep-cold static days
  • Hardshell jacket full weather protection
  • Smartloft vest core warmth, free arms

Prepared with intention.

Every product is carefully inspected and handled by our team before it ships. From fit and function to final details, we make sure each piece is ready for the outdoors ahead—so you can focus on the experience, not the gear.
