Men's Intraknit All-Season Merino Base Layer Crew

One of the best parts of Smartwool® base layers is that they help reduce some of the uncomfortable distractions intense activity can produce. This crew top features our Intraknit™ technology—where insulation, articulation, and ventilation are seamlessly integrated to help enhance movement and comfort. The fabric helps combine the moisture management, temperature regulation, and odor resistance of Merino with TENCEL™ Lyocell fiber to help keep you cool. And with minimal seams to help reduce chafing, this top will allow you to focus on taking your workout to the next level. So go out there and feel good doing it!

Intraknit™ Technology
Seamlessly integrates insulation, articulation, and ventilation zones into the knit itself. The 3D-knit construction places different fabric densities where each part of the body needs different performance — warmer where you chill, cooler where you heat up, articulated where you move.
Merino + TENCEL™ Lyocell Blend
55% Merino wool brings moisture management, temperature regulation, and natural odor resistance. 19% TENCEL™ Lyocell adds a cool, smooth hand-feel and extra moisture-wicking performance for high-output activity.
All-Season Weight
Lighter than the midweight Classic Thermal — built for high-output activity in cool to moderate temperatures. Pulls sweat off the skin and breathes through the knit before you overheat.
Minimal Seams For Chafe Resistance
The 3D-knit construction eliminates most seams entirely. Nothing to rub against the skin under a pack strap, hydration vest, or in the spots where your arms swing past your torso during a run.
Body-Mapped Ventilation
Open-knit ventilation zones are knit directly into high-heat areas — under the arms, along the spine — where the body dumps sweat first. No separate mesh panels, no extra seams at the ventilation points.
Slim Fit With Stretch Recovery
Cut to follow the contours of the body with 2% Elastane for stretch recovery. Holds shape across hundreds of wear cycles and washes without bagging at the elbows or waist.
Natural Odor Resistance
Merino's antimicrobial properties keep the crew fresh through long workouts, multi-day trips, and back-to-back training days without holding the funk that synthetic base layers pick up by day two.
Made in Vietnam
55% Merino Wool, 19% TENCEL™ Lyocell, 15% Polyester, 9% Nylon, 2% Elastane. The polyester and nylon add structural durability; the elastane adds stretch recovery; the Merino and TENCEL do the work against the skin.

Construction

Fabric
55% Merino Wool, 19% TENCEL™ Lyocell, 15% Polyester, 9% Nylon, 2% Elastane
Knit Construction
3D-knit Intraknit™ — body-mapped insulation, articulation, and ventilation
Seam Construction
Minimal seams (3D-knit reduces chafe points)
Country of Origin
Made in Vietnam
Washing
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, separately from other garments. The TENCEL™ Lyocell blend benefits from cooler water — high heat can damage the fiber structure and cause shrinkage. Turn inside out before washing to protect the outer knit and release body soil from the inner fibers.
Bleach & Iron
Do not bleach. Do not iron. Bleach breaks down Merino wool fibers and damages TENCEL™ Lyocell; iron heat can scorch the 3D-knit construction and flatten the ventilation zones.
Drying
Tumble dry low. Heat helps the Merino fibers re-loft and restores the 3D-knit structure. Remove promptly to minimize wrinkling and extend the life of the elastane recovery.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino wool and degrade TENCEL™ Lyocell — both core to the fabric's performance.
Storage
Store folded in a dry space. Merino's natural odor resistance means you can wear the crew multiple days between washes on multi-day trips — the perfect performance feature for hut-to-hut tours and backcountry ski days.

Merino Layer System — SW002868

Built For

High-Output Training
Cool
Gym sessions, HIIT, and threshold work where sweat output spikes and a midweight layer would soak through. The TENCEL™ blend pulls moisture off the skin faster than 100% Merino, and the body-mapped ventilation dumps heat before you overheat.
Shoulder-Season Hiking
40–60°F
Spring and fall days when the midweight Classic Thermal is too warm at the trailhead but bare skin gets clammy after the first climb. The All-Season weight manages the swing — cool enough at the start, breathable enough at the top.
Cold-Weather Trail Running
35–50°F
First cold mornings where a tank is too cold and a long sleeve is too warm by mile three. Minimal seams mean no chafing under a hydration vest. Merino odor resistance means wearing it twice between washes on a training block.
Layering Foundation Year-Round
3 Season
The right weight for almost any other layer to go over it — a Smartloft vest on shoulder-season days, a hardshell on storm days, a fleece on the coldest mornings. Lighter than the midweight, so it doesn't bulk up under the rest of the system.
Build The Stack

Layer Over It

Intraknit is the foundation; what you put on top changes with the weather. The All-Season weight gives you a wider range than midweight — it disappears under everything from a wind shell to a puffy.

  • Wind shell cool + breezy days
  • Light fleece pullover cool + dry days
  • Smartloft vest core insulation on top
  • Hardshell jacket wet + wind protection
Complete The Kit

Pair It With The Bottom

A matching Intraknit bottom completes the system with the same fabric blend and same body-mapped ventilation. Pair with the Men's Intraknit All-Season Merino Base Layer Bottom for a head-to-toe All-Season foundation.

  • Men's Intraknit All-Season Bottom matched weight + blend
  • Classic Thermal Bottom heavier bottom for cold legs
  • Smartloft Vest core insulation overlap
  • Merino beanie head + ear coverage

Prepared with intention.

Every product is carefully inspected and handled by our team before it ships. From fit and function to final details, we make sure each piece is ready for the outdoors ahead—so you can focus on the experience, not the gear.
