Kids' Classic Merino Blend Base Layer Bottom

Our Kids’ Classic Merino Blend Base Layer Bottoms combine the moisture management, temperature regulation, and odor resistance of Merino with recycled COOLMAX® polyester. With a flatlock seam construction designed to help prevent chafing and the benefits of Merino, these bottoms will help them stay comfortable on snow days and activities in the mountains.

Merino + Recycled COOLMAX® ECOMADE Blend
The bottoms blend 50% Merino Wool with 50% COOLMAX® ECOMADE Recycled Polyester — the same 50/50 Merino/COOLMAX® ECOMADE blend philosophy as the SW003191 Kids’ Classic Merino Blend Base Layer Crew in this family. The Merino handles the natural moisture management, temperature regulation, and odor resistance; the COOLMAX® ECOMADE Recycled Polyester handles the active moisture-wicking and the recycled-content positioning. The 50% Merino is the moderate-sweet-spot Merino content for active kids’ use — enough Merino for the natural performance benefits, balanced against enough COOLMAX® for active moisture-wicking during high-output kid activity.
COOLMAX® ECOMADE Active Moisture Wicking
The 50% COOLMAX® ECOMADE Recycled Polyester content is engineered specifically for active moisture-wicking — the COOLMAX® fiber structure pulls moisture away from the skin and spreads it across the fabric’s surface for faster evaporation than a pure Merino construction would deliver. The moisture-wicking performance is what makes the 50/50 blend the right tool for active kids’ use where high sweat output (ski school lessons, sledding, snowshoeing, snowball fights) needs the active wicking COOLMAX® provides. The ECOMADE designation means the COOLMAX® fiber is made from recycled resources — delivering the active moisture-wicking performance with a lower-impact material choice.
50% Merino Wool Natural Performance
The 50% Merino content handles the natural temperature regulation and odor resistance that pure synthetics can’t — Merino’s natural crimp traps body heat across the cold chairlift rides, manages moisture during the high-output ski-school lessons, and prevents the clammy chill a pure synthetic would develop when the activity stops. Merino’s natural odor resistance means the bottoms stay fresh across multi-day resort trips between washes — the parent-friendly packing light the kids’ sub-line is built for.
Flatlock Seam Construction
Flatlock seam construction is designed to help prevent chafing against a kid’s sensitive skin — the flatlock seam lies flat against the body rather than creating the raised seam ridge a standard overlocked seam would create. The flat construction eliminates the chafing risk at the inner-leg seams, the waistband, and the side seams where active kid movement (running, climbing, skiing, sledding) creates repeated friction against the seams. The flatlock construction is a parent-friendly detail: fewer chafe complaints from kids during a long day of activity.
Snow Days & Mountain Activities
Built for the snow-day and mountain-activity use the description calls out — ski school lessons, sledding, snowball fights, snowshoeing, snowman-building, and the general mountain-town winter play that defines a kid’s winter. The Merino+COOLMAX® blend handles the high-output kid activity and the cold mountain temperatures across the full day of winter play. The moisture-wicking and temperature regulation handle the cold-to-warm swings of a kid’s stop-and-go winter day.
Moisture Management For Active Kids
The Merino + COOLMAX® blend is engineered specifically for active moisture management — the combination handles the sweat output a kid’s high-energy winter play generates, from the cold chairlift ride to the warm ski-school class to the cold lunch break. The COOLMAX® wicks the moisture away from the skin for fast evaporation; the Merino manages the moisture vapor at the fabric’s surface and prevents the clammy chill. The combination keeps the kid drier and more comfortable across the full range of winter play.
Temperature Regulation For Kid Comfort
Merino’s natural thermoregulation handles the wide temperature swings of a kid’s winter day — the cold morning start, the warm ski-school class, the cold chairlift, the warm lunchroom, the cold afternoon play. The Merino fiber’s natural crimp traps body heat when the temperature drops and releases it when the body’s heat output rises. The thermoregulation is what makes Merino the right choice for kid comfort across the wide range of conditions a real winter day creates.
Odor Resistance For Multi-Day Resort Trips
Merino’s natural odor resistance means the bottoms stay fresh across multi-day resort trips between washes — the parent-friendly packing-light benefit the kids’ sub-line is built for. The Merino fiber naturally resists the bacteria that cause odor, so the bottoms don’t develop the smell a synthetic develops after one wear. The odor resistance means parents can pack fewer pairs for a multi-day family trip without the odor issue.
Six-Size Kids’ Range XXS-XL
The bottoms are available in six sizes from XXS through XL — the broader kids’ range that covers small toddlers through larger pre-teens without skipping the in-between sizes an adult 4-5 size range would miss. The six-size coverage handles the full age range the kids’ sub-line is built for, from the early ski-school lessons through the pre-teen mountain adventures.
Bottom Companion To The Crew
The bottoms are designed as the bottom companion to the SW003191 Kids’ Classic Merino Blend Base Layer Crew — the same 50/50 Merino/COOLMAX® ECOMADE blend, the same flatlock seam construction, the same six-size kids’ range. For the complete kids’ Classic Merino Blend base layer system, pair the bottoms with the crew for a full-body moisture-managing base layer system tuned for active kids’ winter use.
Mountain-Ready Kid Performance
Built for the mountain-ready performance kids’ winter play demands — the combination of Merino’s natural performance, COOLMAX® ECOMADE’s active moisture-wicking, and flatlock seam construction delivers a base layer bottom that handles the full day of kid activity across the cold mountain environment. The bottoms layer cleanly under kids’ ski pants, snow pants, or insulated kids’ outerwear without the bulk a less-streamlined cut would add.

Washing
Machine wash warm on a gentle cycle. Wash with like colors — the Merino+COOLMAX® ECOMADE blend benefits from isolated washing to protect the fabric’s moisture-management properties. Warm water tolerance (vs the cold-only spec on some of the heavier base-layer products in the family) handles the kid’s-activity soil that accumulates across long wear days. Use a mild, technical wash; avoid fabric softeners (they coat the Merino fibers and reduce the natural moisture management and odor resistance, and can interfere with the COOLMAX® ECOMADE’s moisture-wicking performance).
Drying
Tumble dry low. The 50% Merino / 50% COOLMAX® ECOMADE jersey construction tolerates low-heat tumble drying without felting the Merino or degrading the COOLMAX® ECOMADE’s moisture-wicking performance — the polyester backbone holds the knit structure together through the dry cycle. Low heat only; high heat can shrink the Merino fibers and damage the COOLMAX® ECOMADE’s wicking fiber structure. (Note: this differs from the adult Heavyweight Merino Sport base layers in this family that explicitly require dry flat — the kids’ Classic Merino Blend’s lightweight jersey tolerates low-heat tumble drying in a way the heavier 3D-knit constructions do not.)
Bleach & Iron
Do not bleach. Cool iron as needed — do not iron decoration. Bleach breaks down Merino wool fibers and degrades the COOLMAX® ECOMADE’s wicking fiber structure. Iron only on low heat and only on the non-decorated fabric areas; high heat can scorch the Merino fibers and damage the flatlock seam construction.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino and degrade the COOLMAX® ECOMADE’s moisture-wicking performance — both of which are core to the bottoms’ moisture management. Dry cleaning would compromise both the Merino’s natural odor resistance and the COOLMAX® ECOMADE’s active moisture-wicking.
Storage
Store folded in a dry, breathable space. Merino’s natural odor resistance means the bottoms stay fresh across multiple wear days between washes, which extends the fabric’s lifespan. Folded storage preserves the flatlock seam construction and the jersey knit’s shape; hanging for long periods can stretch the knit out at the waistband and knees.

Merino Layer System — SW003192

Built For

Ski School Lessons
15° – 35°F
Full-day ski school programs and snowboarding lessons where the kid is on the snow for 4-6 hours across the cold morning lesson and the warmer afternoon free-ski. The 50/50 Merino+COOLMAX® blend handles the high-output kid energy of the lesson and the cold chairlift ride between runs; the flatlock seams prevent the chafing that would distract a kid during a long lesson; the natural odor resistance covers the multi-day lesson programs without daily washing.
Sledding & Snowball Wars
20° – 40°F
Backyard sledding hills, neighborhood snowball fights, and snowman-building days where the kid’s activity is high-energy stop-and-go winter play. The Merino+COOLMAX® blend wicks the moisture from the high-output sledding climbs and snowball-throwing sessions; the flatlock seams handle the crawling, kneeling, and rolling that snow play demands without the chafing; the natural odor resistance covers the multi-day break between washes when snow days stack up.
Family Snowshoe Walks
15° – 35°F
Family snowshoe outings and winter nature walks where the kid is hiking through deep snow for an hour or two and needs the same moisture management an adult would, but in a kid-sized fit. The Merino+COOLMAX® blend handles the high-output kid energy on the uphills and the cold sitting-on-the-snow moments on the downhills; the flatlock seams prevent the inner-leg chafing that a multi-mile snowshoe would create; the parent-friendly care handles the inevitable trail dirt and snow soak.
Snow Day Indoor-Outdoor
All-Winter Multi-Day
Multi-day snow days and winter break weeks where the kid rotates between outdoor play and indoor warming-up, and the same bottoms need to handle the full day of mixed indoor-outdoor activity. The Merino+COOLMAX® blend handles the cold outdoor play and the warm indoor school or homework sessions; the natural odor resistance covers the multiple wear days between washes that snow days demand; the parent-friendly care (machine wash warm, tumble dry low) handles the multi-kid household’s laundry reality.
Layer Over It

Build The Kid’s Winter System

The Kids’ Classic Merino Blend Bottom is the foundation piece of a kid’s winter layering system. Layer a kids’ fleece or a kids’ insulated pant over it for the snow-day deep cold, add a kids’ snowsuit or a kids’ ski pant for the ski school and sledding days, and the Merino+COOLMAX® blend handles the foundation moisture management. The slim kids’ fit layers cleanly under any kids’ outerwear without the bunching a boxier base layer would create.

  • Kids’ fleece pant or grid legging cold-day mid-layer option
  • Kids’ insulated ski pant ski/snowboard outer
  • Kids’ snowsuit or bib sledding/snow-day outer
  • Kids’ winter boot cold-day foot finishing
Layer Under It
