Alpine Onset Merino 150 Beanie

The Alpine Onset Merino 150 Beanie offers lightweight, versatile functionality and warmth during active outdoor pursuits. Crafted from a merino wool blend, this beanie boasts exceptional breathability, wicking, and quick-drying capabilities. The UPF 30 provides protection from the sun's UV rays, and the close-to-head, low-profile fit sits comfortably under a helmet or hood. And when the temperature drops into the single digits, the double-layered ear band provides extra warmth on the ears and forehead. A versatile accessory for skiers, climbers, trail runners, and more, the Alpine Onset Merino 150 Beanie is an essential base layer for active outdoor warmth.

Merino Wool Blend
A 53% merino wool / 42% polyester / 5% elastane blend delivers natural warmth, breathability, and odor resistance with the durability of synthetic fibers and the stretch needed for a comfortable, stay-put fit.
Naturally Odor Resistant
Merino wool naturally resists odor-causing bacteria, so the beanie can be worn multiple times between washes without developing the funky smell that plagues synthetic knits—ideal for multi-day trips and sweaty activity.
UPF 30 Sun Protection
A UPF 30 fabric rating shields the scalp and forehead from harmful UV rays during high-alpine climbs, glacier travel, and long trail runs in exposed terrain.
Double-Layered Earband
A double-layered knit at the earband adds extra warmth over the ears and forehead for the coldest single-digit mornings, while the rest of the crown stays light and breathable for active use.
Close-to-Head Fit
A close-to-head, low-profile fit hugs the head without pressure points, and layers cleanly under a climbing, skiing, or cycling helmet without bunching or binding at the temples.
Moisture-Wicking & Quick Drying
The merino/poly blend pulls moisture off the skin and dries fast, keeping you comfortable when the pace picks up, the temperature drops, or you're working hard on the skin track.
Helmet & Hood Compatible
A low-profile construction layers cleanly under a climbing, skiing, or cycling helmet, and fits comfortably under a jacket hood without bunching, making it a versatile mid-layer for cold-weather systems.
Lightweight & Packable
At just 1.41 oz, the beanie stuffs into a pocket, vest, or pack and pulls on instantly when the temperature drops, without weighing down your layering system.

Cleaning
Hand wash cold with a mild wool-specific detergent (e.g. Eucalan, Nikwax Wool Wash, or unscented dish soap). Do not machine wash, bleach, fabric softener, or standard laundry soap, which can felt the merino fibers, cause shrinkage, and degrade the natural stretch and softness of the knit.
Drying
Lay flat to air dry on a clean towel. Gently reshape while damp. Do not wring, tumble dry, or hang dry (which can stretch out the knit). Keep away from direct heat and sunlight.
Storage
Allow the beanie to dry fully before storing. Keep flat in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. A small cedar block or lavender sachet helps deter moths during long-term wool storage.
Pilling Prevention
Merino wool may pill slightly with heavy use, especially in high-friction zones like the forehead and where the helmet sits. A fabric shaver or fine wool comb safely removes pilling and restores appearance. Washing inside-out and avoiding friction from helmet straps minimizes pilling over time.
