K2 Wayback 89 Men's Skis

Break trail and drop in like never before. Built with input from athletes and guides, the all-new Wayback 89 brings a refined shape, construction, and profile to your touring kit. Titanal Touring Tech, All-Terrain Rocker, and Bio Resin deliver lightweight efficiency on the skin track and confident downhill performance when you flip the switch. The standard for high-performance backcountry skiing.

Titanal Touring Tech
"Titanal Touring Technology is based on the premise that going downhill is the priority" — K2 incorporates Titanal laminates into the Wayback construction to deliver the dampening and edge hold of a high-end piste ski at touring weight. The result: skis that climb efficiently on the skin track and feel confident, stable, and powerful on the descent.
89mm Waist — Touring Sweet Spot
The 89mm waist is the touring sweet spot — wide enough to float through soft snow and maintain edge hold on variable backcountry conditions, narrow enough to keep the swing weight low and the skin track efficient. The 121-89-107 dimensions give a versatile platform that handles everything from spring corn to mid-winter powder.
Paulownia Core
The Paulownia wood core is the secret to the Wayback's low weight — Paulownia is one of the lightest commercially-harvested woods in the world, with a strength-to-weight ratio that rivals traditional ski woods. At 1275g per ski in the 174cm length, the Wayback 89 is light enough for long days in the skin track without sacrificing the damp, planted feel of a Titanal-equipped ski on the way down.
All-Terrain Rocker Profile
All-Terrain Rocker combines a long, gradual rocker in the tip with camber underfoot and a subtle tail rocker — the result is a profile that floats in soft snow, carves on hardpack, and releases the tail predictably when slashing or sliding. It's the most versatile rocker profile in K2's touring line and the right choice for skiers who encounter mixed conditions in the backcountry.
Bio Resin
Bio Resin replaces a portion of the petroleum-based epoxy in the Wayback's layup with a plant-based alternative. The chemistry is tuned to deliver the same bonding strength and durability as traditional resin, but with a lower carbon footprint — the Wayback 89 is built for high-performance touring with a lighter environmental impact.
Flat Ski (No Bindings)
The Wayback 89 ships flat — no bindings included. Pair it with your favorite tech touring binding (frame, pin, or hybrid) to build out your backcountry setup. The flat mount also gives you the freedom to swap bindings for different objectives without remounting.

Storage
Store the Wayback 89 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. UV exposure degrades the Bio Resin and Titanal laminates over time, and prolonged heat exposure can delaminate the Paulownia core. For off-season, keep the skis in a ski bag or wrap them in a soft cloth to protect the base from debris.
Base Care
Wax the base every 5-10 days of use to maintain glide, especially on the touring days when the bases see a lot of skin friction. Use a temperature-specific wax for the snow conditions. The Wayback 89's sintered base holds wax well — a hot scrape and brush after each wax will keep the base fast and the structure sharp.
Edge Care
Check edges for dings and burrs after skiing rocky or icy terrain. A quick file with a diamond stone takes care of burrs; major dings should be filed flat by a ski tech. The Wayback 89's Titanal construction means the edges are well-supported, but regular edge maintenance extends ski life significantly.
Binding Care
The Wayback 89 ships flat — when you mount your tech bindings, follow the binding manufacturer's torque specs. Re-torque mounting screws at the start of each season and after any major impact. The flat construction makes remounting for different binding setups straightforward, but the ski should be remounted by a qualified ski tech to ensure proper positioning.

🔩
All-Terrain Rocker
"Blends gradual tip rocker with traditional camber underfoot for versatility across conditions. The rocker improves turn initiation and float, while camber delivers edge hold and stability. Designed to perform on groomers, crud, and light powder, it offers predictable response for everyday all-mountain skiing in mixed terrain and seasons."
Paulownia Tour Light Core
"Paulownia Tour Light Core is engineered for maximum weight savings in backcountry-focused skis. Ultra-light paulownia wood enhances uphill efficiency while maintaining functional strength and flex integrity. Designed for touring applications, this core improves climbing performance and maneuverability without sacrificing downhill control, making it ideal for long days and demanding ski touring missions."
Biobased Resin
"A resin formulation containing 31% biobased carbon content. Designed to deliver strong bonding performance and enhanced cold-temperature durability while incorporating renewable plant-derived materials into the construction."
Snophobic™ Topsheet
"Helps eliminate snow build up while touring up and riding down." — K2's hydrophobic topsheet treatment. Prevents snow from sticking to the top of the ski on the skin track.
T3 Construction (Titanal Touring Technology)
"Titanal Touring Technology is based on the premise that going downhill is the priority. As with our high-end piste and freeride skis, we've incorporated Titanal laminates into the construction of our award-winning Wayback and Talkback skis. The weight of our touring skis speaks for itself, and we'll let the smile on your face at the bottom of the run speak to their downhill performance."
