K2 Wayback 106 Men's Skis

The Wayback 106 is the flagship powder tool for backcountry skiers and mountain guides chasing soft snow worldwide. Titanal Touring Tech, All-Terrain Rocker, and Bio Resin deliver downhill performance that rewards the climb — without the weight penalty that turns a tour into a slog. A mid-fat waist and powder-tuned shape make it the obvious choice when it's deep and uphill efficiency still matters.

Titanal Touring Tech
"Titanal Touring Technology is based on the premise that going downhill is the priority" — K2 incorporates Titanal laminates into the Wayback construction to deliver the dampening and edge hold of a high-end piste ski at touring weight. The Titanal layers absorb vibration and provide the stability needed to charge through chop and deep snow at speed, without the wobble that plagues most sub-1500g touring skis.
106mm Waist — Powder Specialist
The 106mm waist is the Wayback's identity — wide enough to surf through bottomless powder with the tip up, wide enough to maintain a stable platform in chop and tracked-out conditions, but not so wide that skin track efficiency suffers. The 132-106-121 dimensions give the 106 a directional shape with a slightly wider tip than tail for natural float in deep snow and predictable turn release.
Paulownia Core
The Paulownia wood core is the secret to the Wayback's touring-friendly weight — Paulownia is one of the lightest commercially-harvested woods in the world, with a strength-to-weight ratio that rivals traditional ski woods. At 1475g per ski in the 179cm length, the Wayback 106 delivers powder-day performance without the weight penalty that turns a long tour into a sufferfest.
All-Terrain Rocker Profile
All-Terrain Rocker combines a long, gradual rocker in the tip with camber underfoot and a subtle tail rocker — the result is a profile that floats in soft snow, carves on hardpack, and releases the tail predictably when slashing or sliding. The Wayback 106's longer rocker zones make it especially well-suited to deep snow and surf-style turns in the backcountry.
Bio Resin
Bio Resin replaces a portion of the petroleum-based epoxy in the Wayback's layup with a plant-based alternative. The chemistry is tuned to deliver the same bonding strength and durability as traditional resin, but with a lower carbon footprint — the Wayback 106 is built for high-performance powder touring with a lighter environmental impact.
Flagship Powder Touring
"The Wayback 106 is the flagship powder tool for backcountry skiers and mountain guides" — K2 positions the 106 as the top-tier powder touring ski in the Wayback line, with a mid-fat waist and powder-tuned shape for deep snow. The 22.3m radius at 179cm is long enough for high-speed powder arcs and stable landings on big-mountain lines.
Flat Ski (No Bindings)
The Wayback 106 ships flat — no bindings included. Pair it with your favorite tech touring binding (frame, pin, or hybrid) to build out your backcountry setup. The flat mount also gives you the freedom to swap bindings for different objectives without remounting.

Storage
Store the Wayback 106 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. UV exposure degrades the Bio Resin and Titanal laminates over time, and prolonged heat exposure can delaminate the Paulownia core. For off-season, keep the skis in a ski bag or wrap them in a soft cloth to protect the base from debris. The wider 106 platform is more susceptible to base warping if stored improperly, so keep them flat or in a proper ski rack.
Base Care
Wax the base every 5-10 days of use to maintain glide, especially on powder days when the bases see a lot of skin friction. Use a temperature-specific wax for the snow conditions. The Wayback 106's sintered base holds wax well — a hot scrape and brush after each wax will keep the base fast and the structure sharp. For powder-specific performance, consider a wax with added graphite or moly for better glide in soft snow.
Edge Care
Check edges for dings and burrs after skiing rocky or icy terrain. A quick file with a diamond stone takes care of burrs; major dings should be filed flat by a ski tech. The Wayback 106's wider platform and Titanal construction put more stress on edges in variable conditions, so regular edge maintenance extends ski life significantly.
Binding Care
The Wayback 106 ships flat — when you mount your tech bindings, follow the binding manufacturer's torque specs. Re-torque mounting screws at the start of each season and after any major impact. The wider 106 platform requires careful binding placement for proper boot centering — a qualified ski tech should handle the mount to ensure correct stance width and boot position.
