Superior Dexterity, Heavyweight Warmth, and Touchscreen Compatibility — the double-layered Vigor Heavyweight Sensor Glove is the warmest option in OR's ActiveTemp™ glove collection. Heralded as a cutting-edge "smart fleece," ActiveTemp™ is the thermo-regulating technology that adjusts to body temperature for comfort during high-exertion activities. These gloves feature recycled polyester with a 4-way stretch that allows for mobility, and the grid interior is breathable and warm. The silicone print grip provides added grip, and the gloves are touchscreen compatible for smartphone and watch use without exposing skin to the elements. The perfect choice for cold-weather outdoor activities and with convenient touchscreen capability, the Vigor Heavyweight Sensor Glove is a wintertime favorite for active use on trail.
Warmest Option in the Vigor Line
"The double-layered Vigor Heavyweight Sensor Glove is the warmest option in our ActiveTemp™ glove collection" — the Vigor Heavyweight sits at the top of OR's Vigor line, offering the most warmth of the three Vigor weights (lightweight, midweight, heavyweight). The double-layered construction provides extra insulation for the coldest conditions where the standard midweight isn't warm enough.
ActiveTemp™ Thermo-Regulating "Smart Fleece"
"Heralded as a cutting-edge 'smart fleece,' ActiveTemp™ is the thermo-regulating technology that adjusts to body temperature for comfort during high-exertion activities" — ActiveTemp™ is OR's proprietary thermoregulating treatment that adapts to the rider's body temperature and activity level. When working hard, ActiveTemp™ allows excess heat and moisture to escape; when cooling down, it helps retain warmth. The "smart fleece" designation means the treatment adjusts automatically to changing conditions throughout the activity, providing comfort without the need to add or remove layers.
Recycled Polyester with 4-Way Stretch
"These gloves feature recycled polyester with a 4-way stretch that allows for mobility" — the Vigor uses recycled polyester with built-in 4-way stretch. The recycled content reduces environmental impact, and the 4-way stretch moves with the hand during dynamic activity (gripping poles, opening zippers, adjusting gear) without restricting movement or binding.
Grid Interior for Breathability and Warmth
"The grid interior is breathable and warm" — the Vigor uses a grid fleece interior (raised grid pattern) that creates air pockets next to the skin for insulation, while the open channels between the grid squares allow moisture vapor to escape. The grid construction provides warmth without bulk, and the breathability prevents moisture buildup during high-output activities. The double-layered heavyweight version amplifies this effect for extra warmth.
Touchscreen-Compatible (Sensor)
"The gloves are touchscreen compatible for smartphone and watch use without exposing skin to the elements" — the Vigor features conductive material in the fingertips (typically index and thumb) that allows the rider to use a phone, GPS, or smartwatch without removing the gloves. This is essential for the modern outdoor enthusiast who needs to check trail maps, messages, or ride data without exposing their hands to the cold. The "Sensor" in the product name indicates the touchscreen compatibility.
Silicone Print Grip Palm
"The silicone print grip provides added grip" — the Vigor features silicone print patterns on the palm that enhance grip on poles, trekking poles, ice tools, or other gear. The silicone print is especially useful in wet or cold conditions when bare hands or smooth fabric might slip. The print is subtle enough to not interfere with dexterity.
Cold-Weather Outdoor Activities
"The perfect choice for cold-weather outdoor activities" — the Vigor Heavyweight Sensor Glove is designed for active use in cold conditions. Cold-weather hiking, trail running in winter, climbing, mountaineering, and backcountry skiing are all good use cases. The double-layered construction provides the extra warmth needed for the coldest days, while the ActiveTemp™ treatment prevents overheating during high-output activities.
Wintertime Favorite for Active Use on Trail
"The Vigor Heavyweight Sensor Glove is a wintertime favorite for active use on trail" — the Heavyweight is the go-to choice for active winter users who need more warmth than the midweight provides. The touchscreen capability means you can use your phone/GPS without exposing your hands, and the silicone grip ensures secure handling of poles, tools, and gear in cold/wet conditions.

Washing
Hand wash the Vigor Heavyweight Sensor Gloves in cold water with a mild technical fabric wash (like Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers Performance Wash). Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, which can damage the double-layered construction, the ActiveTemp™ treatment, the recycled polyester fibers, and the touchscreen-compatible material on the fingertips. Use a gentle cycle and rinse thoroughly.
Drying
Squeeze excess water gently from the gloves (don't wring or twist) and allow to air dry at room temperature. The double-layered Vigor Heavyweight takes longer to dry than the midweight version due to the extra insulation layer. Avoid high heat, which can damage the ActiveTemp™ treatment and the spandex stretch fibers. Don't put the gloves in the dryer.
ActiveTemp™ Treatment Reapplication
The ActiveTemp™ thermoregulating treatment is bonded to the fabric fibers and designed to last through the life of the garment with normal use and care. The treatment does not need to be reapplied like a surface spray. If you notice the thermoregulating properties are reduced (e.g., the fabric feels clammy when wet or doesn't manage temperature as well), the treatment may be reaching the end of its effective life. Avoid using fabric softeners, which can coat the ActiveTemp™ treatment and reduce its effectiveness.
Touchscreen Material Care
The touchscreen-compatible material on the fingertips is a conductive fabric that allows the skin's electrical signal to pass through to the touchscreen. Over time, oils and dirt can reduce the conductivity. If the touchscreen stops working well, clean the fingertips with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to remove the oils and restore conductivity.
Storage
Store the Vigor Heavyweight Gloves in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid leaving the gloves in direct sunlight for extended periods — UV exposure can degrade the ActiveTemp™ treatment and fade the colors over time. Don't store in a hot car — extreme heat can damage the spandex stretch fibers and the ActiveTemp™ treatment. The gloves can be stored flat or loosely folded.
Repair
Small tears or holes in the fleece can be repaired with a patch (like Tenacious Tape) or by an outdoor gear repair service. For touchscreen material failure or seam issues, contact Outdoor Research for warranty service — the Infinite Guarantee® covers defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product.
