Outdoor Research Women's Stratoburst Stretch Rain Pants 2026

The Stratoburst Stretch Rain Pant combines bluesign® approved, 100% recycled materials with mechanical stretch to create a lightweight, breathable, wind and waterproof 2.5-layer shell for cool and wet-weather outdoor pursuits. Wet-Weather Defense with 100% Recycled Materials and Mechanical Stretch — the Stratoburst Stretch Rain Pant combines a technical feature set with industry-leading sustainable materials to deliver lightweight, breathable protection from the elements. Breathable bluesign® approved 2.5-layer Ventia™ fabric and fully-taped seams seal out wind and moisture and stretch to move with the body, ideal for cool weather climbing or hiking.

Wet-Weather Defense
"Wet-Weather Defense with 100% Recycled Materials and Mechanical Stretch" — the Stratoburst Stretch Rain Pant is built for the rider, hiker, and climber who needs reliable wet-weather protection that doesn't compromise on sustainability. The combination of 100% recycled materials, mechanical stretch, and weatherproof construction delivers a pant that protects against the elements while minimizing environmental impact.
2.5-Layer Ventia™ Fabric
"Breathable bluesign® approved 2.5-layer Ventia™ fabric" — the Ventia™ fabric is Outdoor Research's proprietary waterproof/breathable membrane, designed to provide reliable weather protection while allowing perspiration vapor to escape. The 2.5-layer construction (a membrane + a thin inner print or overlay) keeps the pant lightweight and packable while still providing full waterproof performance. The bluesign® approval means the fabric meets strict environmental and safety standards.
PFAS-Free DWR Treatment
"PFAS-free DWR treatment provides durable wet-weather protection" — the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment causes water to bead up and roll off the fabric surface, preventing the face fabric from becoming saturated and heavy. The PFAS-free formulation is the industry standard for sustainable rainwear — PFAS chemicals ("forever chemicals") have been phased out of outdoor gear due to environmental and health concerns. The DWR keeps the pant light and breathable in wet conditions.
100% Recycled Materials
"100% recycled materials" — the Stratoburst is built with sustainability in mind, using 100% recycled fabric for the face and membrane. This makes it one of the most environmentally responsible rain pants on the market, without sacrificing performance. The bluesign® approval further confirms the fabric meets strict environmental standards throughout the supply chain.
Mechanical Stretch for Movement
"Mechanical stretch to move with the body" — the fabric has built-in mechanical stretch (the fibers are constructed to stretch without requiring spandex or elastane), which allows the pant to move with the rider during active use. Mechanical stretch is more durable than spandex-based stretch (which breaks down over time) and is the standard for technical rainwear.
Fully-Taped Seams
"Fully-taped seams seal out wind and moisture" — every seam on the Stratoburst is taped with waterproof tape to prevent water from seeping through the stitching. Fully-taped seams are the standard for waterproof rainwear and are essential for staying dry in sustained rain. The tape is factory-applied for reliability.
Full-Length Side Zips
"Full-length side zips for easy on/off without removing footwear" — the side zips run the full length of each leg, allowing the rider to put on and take off the pants without removing boots, crampons, or skis. This is a key feature for backcountry use where quick layering changes are essential, and for emergency situations where the rider needs to get the pants off fast.
Articulated Knees
"Articulated knees" — the knee areas are pre-shaped (articulated) to match the natural bend of the leg during movement. Articulated knees reduce fabric bunching behind the knee and improve mobility during active use like hiking, climbing, and skiing.
Carabiner Loop and Packable Design
"A carabiner loop to attach to the outside of a pack if desired. The jacket also uses its back pocket as a stuff sack, packing down small for easy pack storage" — the carabiner loop allows the rider to clip the pants to the outside of a pack when not in use (great for emergency layers on a hike). The stuff-sack design (pockets into its own back pocket) makes the pants packable to a small size for easy stashing in a pack or bag.
Versatile Use: Trail, Alpine, and Beyond
"Technical comfort and performance for use on trail, in the alpine, and beyond" — the Stratoburst is designed for outdoor activities beyond just rain protection. Whether you're hiking in variable weather, climbing in the alpine, walking the dog in the rain, or commuting in wet conditions, the Stratoburst's combination of waterproof protection, breathability, stretch, and packability makes it a versatile addition to any outdoor kit.
Outdoor Research Quality and Infinite Guarantee®
Built by Outdoor Research — a Seattle-based outdoor gear company with decades of experience in technical apparel — the Stratoburst is backed by Outdoor Research's Infinite Guarantee® (lifetime guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship). The combination of sustainable materials, technical construction, and customer-focused guarantee makes the Stratoburst a smart investment for the environmentally-conscious outdoor enthusiast.

Washing
Machine wash the Stratoburst Rain Pants in cold water with a mild technical fabric wash (like Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers Performance Wash). Avoid standard household detergents, fabric softeners, or bleach, which can damage the Ventia™ membrane, the DWR treatment, and the seam tape. Close all zippers before washing. Use a gentle cycle and rinse thoroughly.
DWR Refresh
The PFAS-free DWR treatment will wear off over time with use and washing. When water stops beading on the fabric surface (the face fabric "wets out" and water soaks in), refresh the DWR with a wash-in or spray-on DWR product (like Nikwax TX.Direct or Grangers Performance Repel). Apply per the product instructions, then tumble dry on low heat or iron on low with a cloth barrier to activate the DWR.
Drying
Tumble dry the Stratoburst on low heat or hang to air dry. Avoid high heat, which can damage the membrane, seam tape, and face fabric. If the pants are heavily soiled or have absorbed a lot of water, rinse thoroughly before drying to remove dirt and salt that can damage the fabric over time.
Storage
Store the Stratoburst in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid leaving the pants in direct sunlight for extended periods — UV exposure can degrade the membrane and the DWR treatment over time. The pants can be stored flat or hung on a wide hanger (avoid thin wire hangers that can damage the fabric). For long-term storage, make sure the pants are clean and completely dry to prevent mildew and odor.
Repair
Small tears or holes can be repaired with a patch kit (like Tenacious Tape) or by an outdoor gear repair service. For seam tape failures, contact Outdoor Research for warranty service — the Infinite Guarantee® covers defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product. For zipper failures, the field-replaceable zippers can be swapped by a repair service.
