Washing
Machine wash the Swift Lite Lined Shorts in cold water with a mild technical fabric wash (like Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers Performance Wash). Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, which can damage the polyester fibers, the spandex stretch, the DWR finish, and the brief liner. Close the back zip pocket before washing. Use a gentle cycle and rinse thoroughly.
Drying
Tumble dry the Swift Lite on low heat or hang to air dry. The polyester/spandex blend dries very quickly. Avoid high heat, which can damage the spandex stretch fibers, the DWR finish, and the brief liner. The shorts dry fast enough that air drying is usually sufficient.
DWR Refresh
The DWR finish will wear off over time with use and washing. When water stops beading (the fabric "wets out" and water soaks in), refresh the DWR with a spray-on or wash-in product (like Nikwax TX.Direct or Grangers Performance Repel). Apply per the product instructions, then tumble dry on low heat or iron on low with a cloth barrier to activate the DWR.
UPF Treatment Care
The UPF 30 sun protection is inherent to the fabric weave (the tight knit blocks UV radiation) — it's not a surface treatment that wears off. As long as the fabric maintains its weave integrity, the UPF protection will remain. Avoid harsh detergents, fabric softeners, or bleach that can degrade the fabric and reduce the UPF effectiveness. If the fabric becomes significantly stretched, worn, or thin, the UPF protection will decrease and the shorts should be replaced.
Storage
Store the Swift Lite in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid leaving the shorts in direct sunlight for extended periods — UV exposure can fade the colors, degrade the UPF treatment, and reduce the DWR effectiveness over time. Don't store in a hot car — extreme heat can damage the spandex stretch fibers. The shorts can be folded or hung.
Repair
Small tears or holes in the shorts can be repaired with a patch or by an outdoor gear repair service.
