Cleaning
Wipe down the Revel Shell XT with a damp cloth to remove dirt, salt, and debris. For tougher stains, hand wash in cold water with a mild technical fabric wash (like Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers Performance Wash). Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, which can damage the 3-layer waterproof/breathable membrane, the seam tape, and the ripstop fabric. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
Drying
Allow the Revel Shell XT to air dry at room temperature after use. The 3-layer construction is durable but can be damaged by extreme heat. Don't use direct heat (radiator, hair dryer, dryer) to dry the mitt — high heat can delaminate the 3-layer membrane (separate the layers) and damage the seam tape. The mitt should be completely dry before long-term storage to prevent mildew and odor.
DWR Refresh
The 3-layer fabric has a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment on the outer face fabric that helps water bead up and roll off. When water stops beading (the fabric "wets out" and water soaks in), refresh the DWR with a spray-on or wash-in product (like Nikwax TX.Direct or Grangers Performance Repel). Apply per the product instructions, then tumble dry on low heat or iron on low with a cloth barrier to activate the DWR.
Seam Tape Inspection
Periodically inspect the seam tape on the Revel Shell XT. The fully taped seams are what keep the mitt waterproof — if the tape starts to peel or come off, the mitt will leak. If the tape is damaged, contact Outdoor Research for warranty service (covered under the Infinite Guarantee®) or take the mitt to an outdoor gear repair shop for re-taping. Avoid pulling on loose tape, which can cause more damage.
Storage
Store the Revel Shell XT in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid leaving the mitt in direct sunlight for extended periods — UV exposure can degrade the 3-layer membrane and the seam tape over time. Don't store in a hot car — extreme heat can delaminate the 3-layer membrane. The mitt can be stored flat or loosely folded (avoid sharp creases that can crack the membrane or seam tape).
Repair
Small tears or holes in the ripstop fabric can be repaired with Tenacious Tape (works on most technical fabrics). For seam tape failures or 3-layer membrane delamination, contact Outdoor Research for warranty service — the Infinite Guarantee® covers defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product.
