Cleaning
Hand wash the Odyssey Bucket Hat in cool water with a mild soap or technical fabric wash (like Nikwax Tech Wash). Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, which can damage the recycled polyester fibers, the DWR finish, and the foam-stiffened brim. Don't machine wash or machine dry — the agitation and heat can deform the brim and damage the hat construction. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
Brim Care
The foam-stiffened brim is designed to hold its shape through normal use, but can be damaged by excessive heat or compression. Don't leave the hat in a hot car (the brim can deform or the foam can warp). Don't fold or crush the hat for long periods — store it with the brim intact. If the brim loses its shape slightly, you can often reshape it by hand when the fabric is slightly damp.
DWR Refresh
The DWR finish will wear off over time with use and washing. When water stops beading on the fabric surface (the fabric "wets out" and water soaks in), refresh the DWR with a spray-on product (like Nikwax TX.Direct Spray-On). Apply per the product instructions and allow to air dry. Don't use a wash-in DWR for the hat — the spray-on is easier to apply and more effective for a single item.
UPF Treatment Care
The UPF 50+ sun protection is inherent to the fabric weave (the tight knit blocks UV radiation) — it's not a surface treatment that wears off. As long as the fabric maintains its weave integrity, the UPF protection will remain. Avoid harsh detergents that can degrade the fabric and reduce the UPF effectiveness. If the fabric becomes significantly worn, stretched, or thin, the UPF protection will decrease and the hat should be replaced.
Storage
Store the Odyssey in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid leaving the hat in direct sunlight for extended periods — UV exposure can fade the color and degrade the DWR treatment over time. Don't store in a hot car — extreme heat can deform the foam brim and damage the fabric. The hat can be stored flat (brim down) or on a hat rack to maintain the brim shape.
Repair
Small tears or holes in the fabric can be repaired with a patch (like Tenacious Tape) or by an outdoor gear repair service. For brim reshaping or DWR failure, contact Outdoor Research for warranty service — the Infinite Guarantee® covers defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product.
