Women’s specific fit — the sock is knit in women’s proportions rather than a scaled-down unisex pattern. Narrower through the heel, contoured across the instep, and shaped for the actual geometry of a women’s foot. The women’s-specific fit is the differentiator from the unisex hike sock: it locks into the heel without slipping, eliminates the bunching at the instep that a unisex cut would leave, and wears correctly inside a women’s-specific hiking shoe.
Merino + Recycled Nylon Blend
58% Merino Wool, 39% Nylon, 3% Elastane. Constructed from a blend of soft, responsibly sourced Merino wool and recycled nylon for sustainability. The 58% Merino delivers the natural temperature regulation and odor resistance that make the sock wearable across back-to-back hike days without daily washing; the 39% nylon carries the Indestructawool™ reinforcement and the abrasion resistance a hike sock needs against a hiking shoe’s interior; the 3% elastane — higher than a standard hike sock’s 2% — gives the 4 Degree™ Elite Fit System extra stretch recovery across the arch and ankle.

Crew Height — 7" Rise
Crew height — a 7" rise from heel to cuff, the standard Smartwool Hike crew height. The right height for hiking boots and mid-cut hiking shoes where a low-cut sock would expose the ankle to boot rub and trail debris. The cuff stays up under the boot’s collar without binding at the calf, and the height covers the ankle gap that no-show and micro heights leave when worn with a higher boot.
Comfort Welt With ‘Stay Put’ Fit
Comfort welt with ‘stay put’ fit — the banded cuff at the top of the sock is engineered to hold its position across the full hike without binding or cutting in. A standard hike sock welt either digs into the calf on long descents (too tight) or slides down into the shoe (too loose). The comfort welt holds the right tension: cuff stays up, elastic stays even rather than concentrated.

The body-mapping positions the mesh to vent heat across the metatarsal bones and the top of the foot without breaking the structural knit of the sole. Cooler foot on the climb, fewer hot spots on the down — the cushioning stays intact while the breathability targets the right zones.
Virtually Seamless™ Toe
Virtually Seamless™ toe for enhanced comfort. A flat knit toe seam eliminates the thick ridge across the top of the toes that a standard sock leaves — inside a tight hiking boot, that ridge is pressed against the foot for hours and is the most common source of toe blisters on long hike days. The flat-knit toe seam removes the ridge, eliminating the friction point before it can start.

Washing
Machine wash on gentle cycle in warm or cool water. The Merino + recycled nylon + elastane blend benefits from gentle agitation to protect the Indestructawool™ extended durability zones and the 4 Degree™ Elite Fit stretch recovery. Warm or cool water is fine — hot water can felt the Merino fibers and damage the elastane at the compression bands. Use a mild, technical wash; avoid fabric softeners, which coat the Merino fibers and reduce the natural odor resistance.
Drying
Tumble dry low. The Merino + nylon + elastane blend benefits from low tumble heat to re-loft the light cushion and the reinforced wear zones after washing. High heat can shrink the Merino fibers and damage the elastane at the 4 Degree™ compression bands — keep the setting low and remove promptly.
Bleach & Iron
Do not bleach. Do not iron. Bleach breaks down Merino wool fibers and degrades the nylon (including the recycled nylon content) and the elastane in the Indestructawool™ extended durability zones. Iron heat can scorch the Merino blend and damage the elastane at the compression bands.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino and degrade the recycled nylon reinforcement and the elastane at the 4 Degree™ compression bands — both of which are core to the sock’s durability and fit performance.
Storage
Store folded in a dry, breathable space. Merino’s natural odor resistance lets the sock cover multiple wear days between washes across a backpacking trip — folded storage preserves the light cushion and the reinforced wear zones. Avoid hanging for long periods, which can stretch the elastane out of the 4 Degree™ compression bands.
