Youth Alpenglow V Waterproof Boots
Youth Alpenglow V Waterproof Boots
Kids’ Footwear · Insulated Winter Snow Boot

The Kids’ Alpenglow V Waterproof Boots are cold-weather favorites. These waterproof winter boots have laces for a secure fit, are easy to put on and take off and have protective rubber shells that are tough enough for even the most active little explorers. Our waterproof footwear incorporates a variety of advanced waterproofing materials, treatments, and processes. To help keep feet dry, we use internal waterproof membranes and/or adhesive and seam-seal constructions.

Thermafelt Plus Removable Liner
Removable Thermafelt Plus felt insulation liner rated for high-level warmth to −25°F / −32°C — the highest cold-weather rating in the kids’ Alpenglow line. Removable design lets the boot dry faster and lets you swap in a fresh liner
Single-Pull Quick-Closure System
Single-pull quick-closure lacing system locks the boot in place with one motion — secure fit + helps keep snow out of the boot. Easier than traditional laces for kids to manage independently
Waterproof, Seam-Sealed Construction
Internal waterproof membrane + adhesive + seam-seal construction keep feet dry through snow, slush, and puddles — no leaks at the seams
Ballistic-Nylon Upper with Waterproof-Leather Overlays
Ballistic-nylon upper (heavy-duty woven nylon) with waterproof-leather overlays in high-wear zones — durable, abrasion-resistant, and weather-resistant for active play
Lightweight + Flexible TPR Shell
Sole unit has a lightweight, flexible TPR (thermoplastic rubber) shell bottom for added protection from the elements without the heavy, clunky feel of stiff winter boots
TNF Winter Grip® Rubber Outsole
TNF Winter Grip® rubber outsole for superior traction on cold, wet, snowy, and icy surfaces — grips packed snow and slick pavement without slipping
LWG-Certified Leather
100% of leather sourced from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries — meets environmental and ethical sourcing standards

Cleaning
Remove loose dirt, salt, and snow with a soft brush after every outing. Wipe the ballistic-nylon upper and leather overlays with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — the agitation and heat destroy the Thermafelt Plus removable liner’s insulation, the internal waterproof membrane, the seam-seal construction, and the TPR shell can warp. Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, and solvent-based cleaners.
Thermafelt Plus Removable Liner Care
The Thermafelt Plus felt liner is removable — pull it out to dry separately from the boot after every outing. Air dry the liner at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight. Felt liners dry slowly because they absorb a lot of moisture; allow 24+ hours for full drying. Do not machine wash or tumble dry the felt liner — heat and agitation cause the felt to shrink and mat, losing insulating loft. If the liner develops odor, sprinkle baking soda on it, let sit overnight, then shake out.
Drying
Air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight. Always remove the Thermafelt Plus liner first and dry both pieces separately. Never set the boots on a radiator, near a fire, or in a clothes dryer — high heat delaminates the waterproof membrane, degrades the Thermafelt Plus felt insulation, warps the TPR shell, and damages the single-pull quick-closure system. Stuff the boot loosely with crumpled newspaper for the first hour or two to wick interior moisture and hold the boot’s shape; replace the paper when it’s saturated.
DWR / Waterproofing
The internal waterproof membrane + seam-seal construction is built to last, but the leather overlays and ballistic nylon upper’s water-repellent surface wears over time. When water stops beading on the upper, re-treat with a leather-safe (and nylon-safe) DWR spray. Inspect the seam seals periodically — small lifts can be repaired with seam-seal adhesive (Gear Aid Aquaseal + FD or similar) before they become leaks. Pay extra attention to the toe-cap and heel-counter seams — most common leak points in kids’ boots.
Single-Pull Quick-Closure System Care
The single-pull quick-closure lacing system uses a cord lock or ratcheting buckle — keep it free of ice, snow, and salt buildup. If the cord lock starts to slip or jam, rinse with warm water and a light silicone lubricant restores function. The lace itself is replaceable if it frays (standard round shoelace from any shoe store fits).
TNF Winter Grip® Outsole Care
Clear mud, packed snow, and road salt from the lugs with a stiff brush after each use — buildup in the lugs dramatically reduces traction on ice and packed snow. The Winter Grip® rubber is tough but check lug depth periodically; once the tread is visibly smoothed, the boot has lost meaningful winter grip and should be replaced. Kids grow out of boots before they wear out the outsole, so lug wear is less common than in adult boots — but check seasonally.
TPR Shell Care
The TPR (thermoplastic rubber) shell bottom is durable but can crack or warp if exposed to high heat. Avoid storing the boots in hot cars in summer, near radiators, or in any high-heat environment. The shell is designed to flex with the foot for natural walking; if it hardens or cracks, the boot should be replaced (TPR shells aren’t field-repairable).
Kids-Specific Care Notes
Kids’ boots get dirty fast. For tougher stains (grass, mud, food, marker), pre-treat the spot with a small amount of mild soap and water, then rinse with a damp cloth. Do not use bleach, oxygen cleaners, or enzyme cleaners on kids’ boots — they break down the Thermafelt Plus felt insulation and the waterproof membrane. The Thermafelt Plus liner absorbs sweat and will develop odor over time; the baking-soda treatment mentioned above is the safest refresh.
Sizing & Growing Room
TNF youth boots run true to size, but most parents buy ½ to 1 size up to allow for growing room and to extend the boot’s usable life across one or two seasons. The Thermafelt Plus removable liner has some natural give — a ½-size-up fit is usually comfortable. If the boots are too tight, the toes press against the front, reducing insulation effectiveness and causing cold feet — the most common sizing complaint in kids’ winter boots.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Remove the Thermafelt Plus liner before long-term storage — this lets both pieces air out fully and prevents mildew in the felt. Unfasten the quick-closure to allow airflow between uses. Never store damp — trapped moisture leads to mildew and odor that can be very hard to remove. Stand the boots upright (or use boot shapers) to maintain the heel and shaft shape. Keep out of direct sunlight (UV degrades the ballistic nylon upper and the Thermafelt Plus felt over time).
Outgrowing vs Wearing Out
Most kids outgrow winter boots before wearing them out. If the boots are still in good shape when the child has outgrown them, donate or resell — the synthetic construction (Thermafelt Plus liner + TPR shell + waterproof membrane) doesn’t biodegrade quickly, so keeping them in use avoids landfill. Check the toe-box for pressure-point wear, the heel-counter for shape loss, and the felt liner for compression damage before passing on.
