Men's Verto Alpine Mid GORE-TEX Boots
Men's Verto Alpine Mid GORE-TEX Boots
Alpine Trekking Boots · Men · GORE-TEX® 3L · Vibram® XS Trek · 1 lb 3.85 oz

With GORE-TEX® waterproof protection, a midfoot stability shank and our SKYCORE rock guard, the new Men's Verto Alpine Mid GORE-TEX® Boots are perfect for rugged adventures and alpine trekking. Our waterproof footwear incorporates a variety of advanced waterproofing materials, treatments, and processes. To help keep feet dry, we use internal waterproof membranes and/or adhesive and seam-seal constructions.

GORE-TEX® 3L Waterproof Bootie
Durably waterproof GORE-TEX® 3L bootie with a liner made with 100% recycled material — the 3-layer construction pairs a waterproof membrane with inner lining and outer face fabric for the highest level of waterproof performance and breathability, keeping feet dry through stream crossings, snow, and sustained alpine rain while reducing landfill waste.
LWG-Certified Majority-Leather Upper
Majority-leather upper sourced 100% from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries — durable construction that handles abrasion from rocks, scree, and alpine terrain, while the LWG certification confirms the leather was tanned under environmentally responsible processes with full traceability.
SKYCORE Rock Guard
Lightweight SKYCORE rock guard provides critical underfoot protection below the forefoot — shields the foot from sharp edges on scree, talus, and rocky trail surfaces when stepping down or scrambling, without adding the bulk or weight of a full steel shank.
Rigid Midfoot Stability Shank
Rigid stability shank runs the length of the midfoot for torsional rigidity and support under heavy pack loads — keeps the boot from flexing awkwardly on technical terrain, provides a stable platform for edging on rocky trails, and reduces foot fatigue over long alpine miles.
Vibram® XS Trek Outsole
High-traction Vibram® XS Trek outsole delivers reliable grip on wet rock, loose dirt, and alpine terrain — Vibram® is the gold-standard outdoor rubber outsole brand, and the XS Trek compound is engineered for the kind of mixed-surface traction alpine trekking demands.
5mm Lug + Climbing + Braking Zones
5 mm lugs bite into loose terrain for traction on climbs and descents, with a dedicated climbing zone at the toe that lets you use the boot's edge on rocky scrambles and a braking zone at the heel that adds grip on steep descents — three-zone design for serious alpine use.
Protective Molded Toe + Heel
Protective molded-rubber toe cap and scratch-rubber heel — shield the foot from rock strikes, kicked debris, and the kind of rough use alpine trekking puts on the front and back of the boot, extending the upper's life and protecting toes on scrambles and stream crossings.
Molded Ankle Support
Molded ankle support increases performance and comfort at the ankle — locks the heel in place on sidehills and rocky terrain without the bulk of a high-cut mountaineering boot, reducing ankle roll and keeping the foot stable through technical off-trail travel.
Durable Synthetic Mudguards
Durable synthetic mudguards wrap the lower portion of the upper — protect the leather from abrasion, mud splatter, and the kind of wet-trail use that can soak and damage unprotected leather over time, extending the boot's life through repeated alpine trips.
Adjustable Lacing System
Combination of metal and ghillie-lace eyelets plus a lace-lock eyelet for customizable support — lets you tighten or loosen specific zones of the boot independently (toebox for comfort, midfoot for stability, ankle for support), and the lace-lock keeps tension consistent over the laces during long descents.

Cleaning After Trips
Rinse off mud and trail debris with a garden hose or under a faucet — avoid pressure washers which can force water past the GORE-TEX® bootie's seam-sealed construction and into the boot interior, and can damage the leather upper, synthetic mudguards, and the Vibram® XS Trek outsole lugs over time. Remove the laces to clean debris from the eyelets and tongue separately.
Drying
Remove the insoles. Stuff the toes with newspaper or paper towels to absorb moisture and maintain shape. Air dry at room temperature away from direct heat or sunlight — never use a dryer, radiator, or fireplace, which can warp the rigid stability shank, delaminate the GORE-TEX® bootie, crack the leather upper, and damage the Vibram® XS Trek outsole. Drying can take 24-48 hours for a fully wet boot.
Leather Care
Periodically clean and condition the leather upper with a leather-safe cleaner and conditioner — keeps the leather supple, prevents cracking on long-term storage, and extends the upper's life on abrasive alpine terrain. Avoid heavy oils or waxes that can clog the leather's natural breathability.
GORE-TEX® Bootie Maintenance
The GORE-TEX® 3L bootie provides reliable waterproof performance as long as the leather upper is maintained — periodically check the leather for cuts or wear that could compromise the bootie's waterproofness, and patch small cuts with a leather adhesive or take the boots to a TNF-approved cobbler for repair. Avoid storing the boots wet — the GORE-TEX® bootie can develop mildew if kept damp for extended periods.
SKYCORE Rock Guard + Stability Shank Inspection
Periodically check the SKYCORE rock guard and stability shank for damage by feeling under the boot — a cracked rock guard reduces underfoot protection, and a damaged stability shank compromises the boot's torsional rigidity and support. If either shows signs of damage, retire the boots from alpine use and contact TNF customer service for repair options.
Lacing System Care
Keep the metal and ghillie-lace eyelets clean — periodically brush them lightly with a dry brush to clear mud and grit. The lace-lock eyelet's clamping mechanism can wear out with heavy use; if the lace-lock stops holding tension, replace the lace-lock or just tie a double knot at the top to maintain lace tension.
Outsole Maintenance
Periodically clear the 5 mm lugs of embedded mud and debris — stones and grit caught in the tread reduce traction and accelerate wear. A small brush or pick works well for cleaning between lugs and in the climbing zone at the toe after muddy alpine trips.
Storage
Store the boots in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight — UV exposure degrades the leather upper, the synthetic mudguards, and the GORE-TEX® bootie over time. Keep the boots upright with boot shapers or paper stuffed in the toes so the uppers don't crease and the stability shank doesn't deform. Don't store wet — moisture degrades the leather, the GORE-TEX® bootie, and can lead to odor and mildew.
