Women's Hedgehog GORE-TEX® Shoes
Women's Hedgehog GORE-TEX® Shoes
Waterproof Hiking Shoe · Hike / Trail / Approach / Daily

A fan favorite, the Women's Hedgehog GORE-TEX are the ultimate hiking shoes. They have a rugged design, underfoot cushioning, and waterproof GORE-TEX booties. Our waterproof footwear incorporates a variety of advanced waterproofing materials, treatments, and processes — to help keep feet dry, we use internal waterproof membranes and adhesive and seam-seal constructions. Built around a single-density molded-EVA midsole, a TPU heel cradle, a supportive midfoot shank, and a high-traction Vibram XS Trek outsole, the Hedgehog is light enough to wear on a long approach and stable enough to trust on uneven terrain.

Durable Mesh & Leather Upper
Upper made with durable mesh, PU-coated leather, and synthetic-nubuck leather — the three-material construction is what gives the Hedgehog its rugged feel without the weight of a full-leather boot. The mesh panels breathe on a hot approach, the PU-coated leather adds abrasion resistance at the toe and heel, and the synthetic nubuck reinforces the side panels where the foot flexes. The combination is light enough for a long day on the trail, sturdy enough to handle scree and talus.
LWG-Certified Leather
All leather is purchased from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries — the LWG is the global standard for responsible leather manufacturing, with ratings that cover water and energy use, waste management, and chemical traceability. The certification is the assurance that the leather in the upper meets an audited environmental and social standard rather than a one-off tannery claim. A small detail that signals how the shoe is sourced, not just how it performs.
GORE-TEX® 3L Waterproof Bootie
Durably waterproof GORE-TEX 3L bootie has a liner made with 100% recycled material — the 3-layer GORE-TEX construction is the spec'd choice for a hiking shoe because it pairs a waterproof membrane with a protective inner layer and a face fabric that can stand up to repeated flexing. The recycled liner is what makes the waterproofing perform without the environmental cost of a virgin-material bootie. The bootie construction is what keeps feet dry on a stream crossing, a wet-rock scramble, and a full day of trail rain.
Single-Density EVA Midsole
Single-density, molded-EVA midsole — the EVA foam is the underfoot cushioning that absorbs impact on a long descent and rebounds on the push-off. Single-density means the cushioning is uniform across the foot rather than zoned (a design choice that prioritizes simplicity and consistent comfort over a race-style carbon plate). The molded-EVA construction is light enough to wear on a hot day without foot fatigue, supportive enough to handle a loaded pack.
TPU Heel Cradle
TPU heel cradle for added stability — the thermoplastic polyurethane piece wraps the heel and locks the foot in place on uneven terrain, side slopes, and steep descents. The TPU is the stiffener that stops the heel from rolling inside the shoe on a hard corner, and it's the structural detail that lets the Hedgehog feel stable without the bulk of a traditional hiking boot. A small construction detail that earns its place on technical terrain.
Supportive Midfoot Shank
Supportive midfoot shank — the nylon or TPU plate that sits between the heel and the forefoot, providing torsional rigidity without adding weight. The shank is what keeps the shoe from twisting when the foot lands on a rock or a root, and it's the structural detail that lets the Hedgehog feel like a hiking shoe rather than a trail runner. The midfoot support is also what makes the shoe comfortable for a long day of carrying a pack.
Vibram® XS Trek Outsole
High-traction Vibram XS Trek outsole — the XS Trek is Vibram's high-performance compound for outdoor and approach footwear, balancing grip on wet and dry surfaces with the durability to handle rocky trails. The lug pattern is the spec'd design for hiking shoes: deep enough to bite into soft ground, spaced enough to release mud and debris, and shaped to grip rock on a scramble. The Vibram branding is the assurance of a tested, trail-ready outsole.

Remove Loose Dirt
Remove loose dirt and debris after each wear with a soft brush or a damp cloth — dried mud and trail grit work their way into the mesh, the leather, and the laces if left to sit. A quick once-over after a hike takes a minute and keeps the shoes looking new. The brush gets into the lug pattern of the Vibram outsole, which is where the deepest grit hides.
Hand Wash
Hand wash in cold water with a mild soap or a technical footwear cleaner. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — the machine agitation will damage the GORE-TEX bootie, the leather panels, the mesh, the TPU heel cradle, and the midfoot shank. The shoes are built like technical hiking shoes, not like canvas sneakers, and should be cleaned like one. A quick hand wash handles the majority of trail grime.
Air Dry
Air dry naturally at room temperature. Stuff the toe box with paper towels or a clean dry cloth to absorb moisture from the inside and hold the shape of the toe box. Do not put in the dryer. Do not place near direct heat (radiator, fire, hair dryer). High heat delaminates the GORE-TEX bootie, cracks the leather, and warps the TPU heel cradle. Air drying takes longer but preserves the construction.
Restore DWR
When the mesh and leather upper start to absorb water instead of repelling it, re-treat with a spray-on DWR designed for hiking footwear. Reactivating the finish every few months keeps the shoes handling light rain, stream splashes, and wet trail sections without soaking through. The GORE-TEX bootie is still waterproof — the DWR is what makes the outer face shed water rather than saturating.
Leather Conditioning
Treat the PU-coated leather and synthetic-nubuck panels periodically with a leather conditioner or a suede/nubuck protector — the leather dries out with repeated wet/dry cycles, and conditioning keeps the surface supple and water-resistant. Apply the conditioner to a clean cloth rather than directly to the shoe, and work it into the leather in small circular motions. Buff off the excess with a dry cloth.
Lace & Insole Care
Remove the insoles periodically and air them out separately — the insoles hold moisture from sweat, and airing them out prevents odor and mildew between wears. Replace the insoles when they lose their cushioning (typically every 6-12 months for a frequent hiker). The laces can be replaced individually if they fray; keeping spare laces in a pack is a small detail that saves a hike when a lace snaps mid-trail.
