Women's Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew

Named Best Overall Base Layers for Women by GearJunkie (2025-2026). Meet the new and improved Women's Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew. We've updated this 100% Merino wool fan favorite with new color options and an enhanced fit to improve functionality while elevating aesthetics. The addition of shoulder panels and its flatlock seam construction help prevent chafing and increase your comfort level. Add one of our best base layers for cold weather to your winter wardrobe and experience the difference the next time you go skiing, hiking, climbing, or biking.

Award-Winning Midweight Warmth
Named Best Overall Base Layer for Women by GearJunkie for 2025–2026. Midweight 250g/m² ZQ-certified Merino hits the sweet spot between insulation and breathability for cold-weather starts and stops.
100% Merino Wool Fabric
Single-jersey knit of 100% Merino wool delivers moisture management, body-temperature regulation, and natural odor resistance. Interlock construction keeps the next-to-skin layer soft against the body.
Updated Fit With Shoulder Panels
Re-engineered cut moves seams off the top of the shoulder and adds dedicated shoulder panels so a pack strap or bib doesn't rub against the seam line during long days on snow or trail.
Flatlock Seam Construction
Flatlock seams throughout sit flat against skin to minimize chafing under layers, packs, and harnesses. The back body seam wraps to the front for added comfort and a cleaner fit.
Raglan Sleeves
Raglan sleeve construction extends the shoulder line for unrestricted arm movement — important for skin-track skinning, ice-axe swings, and reaching for the next hold.
Slim Base-Layer Fit
Slim fit intended to follow the contours of the body without bunching. Layers cleanly under an insulated jacket or shell and stays tucked when you reach overhead.
Multi-Activity Versatility
Engineered for skiing, hiking, climbing, and cold-weather biking. The temperature-regulating properties of Merino keep you comfortable across output levels without swapping layers.

Washing
Machine wash warm on a gentle cycle with like colors. Use a mild detergent — avoid fabric softeners and bleach, which coat the Merino fibers and reduce moisture-wicking and odor-resistance performance.
Drying
Tumble dry low. High heat can shrink Merino wool fibers and damage the interlock knit over time. For longest life, lay flat to dry when possible — air-dried Merino retains its shape and loft through more wear cycles.
Ironing & Decoration
Cool iron as needed. Do not iron decoration. Printed graphics, heat-transfer logos, and color-block panels can scorch or peel under direct high heat — use a press cloth if ironing is necessary.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino wool, leaving fibers brittle and reducing the temperature-regulating properties that make the fabric perform.
Storage
Store folded in a dry, breathable space. Merino's natural odor resistance means you can wear it multiple times between washes — a key performance feature that makes it ideal for multi-day trips and travel.

Merino Layer System — SW016369

Built For

Cold-Weather Hiking
25° – 45°F
Layer under a shell for ridge traverses and shoulder-season trails. Regulates when you crest the saddle and the wind picks up.
Skin-Track Days
10° – 30°F
Touring and lift-served laps where you heat up on the up and cool down on the down. Midweight 250 stays in the comfort zone either way.
Daily Winter Wear
15° – 40°F
Under a flannel or sweater on the morning commute, the dog walk, the barn. Looks enough like a tee to wear solo indoors.
Sleep & Camp
Sub-Freezing
Midweight 250 sleeps warm without overheating in a bag. Merino's odor resistance means multi-night trips stay comfortable.
Complete The System

Pair It With The Bottom

The Women's Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Bottom matches weight, fit, and fabric so your upper and lower layers regulate as one system — no hot torso, cold legs.

  • Same 250g/m² midweight matched warmth
  • 100% Merino wool identical fabric feel
  • Slim base-layer fit won't bunch under bibs
  • Flatlock seams no chafe under packs
Add A Shell

Top It With A Windshell

For full output in real weather, layer a lightweight windshell or rain jacket over the crew. Merino manages moisture from the inside; the shell blocks wind and precip from the outside.

  • Windshell cuts chill on exposed ridges
  • Rain jacket full weather protection
  • Insulated vest core warmth, free arms
  • Midlayer fleece deep-cold static days

Prepared with intention.

Every product is carefully inspected and handled by our team before it ships. From fit and function to final details, we make sure each piece is ready for the outdoors ahead—so you can focus on the experience, not the gear.
