Kids' Thermal Merino Neck Gaiter

Help keep your little shredder warm all day long with the Kids’ Thermal Merino Neck Gaiter. Updated with a longer design and sized for small heads and necks, it offers lots of heat and helps fend off the snow. It even matches many of our other kids’ Merino wool accessories.

100% Merino Wool With Interlock Knit
Fabric helps combine the moisture management, temperature regulation, and odor resistance of 100% Merino wool with interlock knit for comfort. The 100% Merino construction is the same fabric philosophy as the Kids’ Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew — the next-to-skin Merino that’s the foundation of the Smartwool kids’ system.
Single-Layer Jersey Knit Construction
Single-layer jersey knit construction — the right weight for a neck gaiter that needs to layer under a jacket collar, a balaclava, or a helmet without bunching. The single-layer knit breathes enough to wear across a full day of snow play without overheating, holds warmth in the wind, and dries fast when it gets wet from snow or breath.
Longer Design For Better Coverage
Updated with a longer design — the gaiter extends further down the neck and up over the chin than the previous version. The longer cut means the gaiter can be pulled up over the nose on the coldest lift-line days, folded down as a collar under a jacket, or worn full-length over the chin and mouth for snow-day breath warmth.
Sized For Small Heads & Necks
Sized for small heads and necks — kids’ sizing in two ranges (S/M and L/XL) so the gaiter fits the way it should on a child, not as an adult-sized gaiter cinched around a small face. The right fit keeps the gaiter from sliding off, from bunching at the chin, or from leaving a gap that lets the cold in.
Merino Odor Resistance For Multi-Day Wear
Merino’s natural odor resistance means the gaiter stays wearable across multiple snow days between washes — a key feature for kids’ accessories that move between the snow, the car, the school, and the next snow day. The single-layer jersey knit dries fast overnight so the gaiter is ready for the next morning.
Matches Other Kids’ Merino Accessories
The gaiter is designed to coordinate with the rest of the kids’ Merino wool accessory line — the matching Kids’ Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew, the Kids’ Thermal Merino Reversible Cuffed Beanie, and the Kids’ Thermal Merino Glove. Coordinating accessories let the parent build a complete kids’ Merino snow-day system.
Made In Vietnam
100% Merino Wool. Exclusive of Decoration. The ZQ-certified Merino handles the next-to-skin performance and odor resistance that makes the gaiter wearable across multiple wears between washes.

Hand-Me-Down Durability
Merino holds shape + performance across multiple kids — designed for the hand-me-down rotation between siblings
Washing
Machine wash warm on a gentle cycle with like colors. Use a mild detergent — avoid fabric softeners and bleach, which coat the Merino fibers and reduce moisture-wicking and odor-resistance performance. Wash with similar colors to prevent dye transfer on bright kid colorways (the Linear Peaks, Digi Snow, Mountain Scape, Floral, Tie Dye, and Multi Stripe patterns).
Drying
Tumble dry low. High heat can shrink Merino wool fibers and damage the interlock knit over time. The single-layer jersey knit dries fast enough that air-drying overnight is practical for the next morning’s snow day — air-dried Merino retains its shape and loft through more wear cycles.
Ironing & Decoration
Cool iron as needed. Do not iron decorations. The kids’ colorways include printed graphics, color-block patterns, and heat-transfer logos that can scorch or peel under direct high heat — use a press cloth if ironing is necessary.
Dry Cleaning
Do not dry clean. The harsh solvents used in commercial dry cleaning strip the natural lanolin from Merino wool, leaving fibers brittle and reducing the temperature-regulating properties that make the gaiter perform across multi-day wear.
Bleach
Do not bleach. Bleach damages Merino wool fibers and strips the color from the bright kid colorways — particularly the printed pattern options.
Storage
Store folded in a dry, breathable space between seasons. Merino’s natural odor resistance means the gaiter can be worn across multiple snow days between washes — a key performance feature that makes it ideal for multi-day family trips, winter weekends away, and the hand-me-down rotation between siblings.

Merino Layer System — SW000430

Built For

Sled Days & Snow Play
Below 35°F
The named use case from the vendor copy — the kind of unstructured outdoor day where the kid is on a sled, building a snow fort, or just rolling around in the snow. The Merino holds warmth when the wind picks up; the longer design can be pulled up over the chin and mouth for snow-day breath warmth; the single-layer knit dries fast when it gets wet.
Ski School & Lesson Days
Below 30°F
The kids’ ski school and lesson-day neck gaiter. The longer design pulls up over the nose on the coldest lift-line days; the kids’ sizing keeps the gaiter from sliding off or bunching at the chin. Pair with the Kids’ Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Crew + Kids’ Thermal Merino Glove + Kids’ Thermal Merino Reversible Cuffed Beanie for a complete kids’ ski-day system.
Winter Hike & Snowshoe
20° – 40°F
The family winter hike and the kids’ snowshoe day. The Merino holds warmth across the cool morning start and the active climb; the longer design extends coverage down the neck where the backpack strap and the chin meet; the single-layer knit breathes enough to wear on the uphills without overheating.
Multi-Day Family Trips
Trip Rotation
The cabin weekend, the ski trip, the family travel day. Merino’s natural odor resistance means the gaiter stays wearable across back-to-back snow days between washes; the single-layer jersey knit dries fast overnight so the gaiter is ready for the next morning. Hand-me-down ready — Merino holds shape and performance across multiple kids.
Build The Stack
