Outdoor Research Women's Freewheel MTB Glove 2026

Lightweight, Breathable Performance and Grip for Ultimate Bar Control — the Women's Freewheel MTB Bike Glove is built for grip, dexterity, and ultimate bar control, delivering highly breathable performance and comfort for logging miles and lapping descents on your favorite trails. Developed with a lightweight poly mesh on the back of the hand and a synthetic suede palm with perforation venting on the palm, these gloves deliver breathability and grip, keeping hands cool and comfortable during long climbs and locked in on quick descents. Built to focus on breathability, grip, and dexterity, the Freewheel is essential for every ride and rider.

Grip, Dexterity, and Ultimate Bar Control
"Built for grip, dexterity, and ultimate bar control" — the Freewheel is designed around the three things that matter most for mountain biking: grip on the bars, dexterity for shifting and braking, and bar control for technical descents. The combination of synthetic suede palm, silicone grip print, and lightweight construction delivers on all three.
Lightweight Poly Mesh Back of Hand
"Developed with a lightweight poly mesh on the back of the hand" — the back of the glove uses a lightweight polyester mesh that maximizes breathability and minimizes weight. The mesh construction allows air to flow freely across the back of the hand, keeping hands cool during long climbs and hot days. The lightweight fabric also helps the gloves pack down small for storage.
Synthetic Suede Palm with Perforation Venting
"A synthetic suede palm with perforation venting on the palm" — the palm uses a synthetic suede (AX SUEDE BRAVO RPET — recycled polyester) that's durable, grippy, and breathable. The perforation venting (small holes in the palm) adds extra breathability and helps moisture escape, keeping hands dry and comfortable during long rides. The synthetic suede is also abrasion-resistant for the wear of regular bar contact.
Silicone Grip Print
"Silicone grip print" — the palm has silicone print patterns that enhance grip on the handlebars, brake levers, and shifters. The silicone grip is especially valuable in wet conditions (rain, sweat, mud) when bare synthetic suede might slip. The print is subtle enough to not interfere with dexterity but provides reliable grip when needed.
Touchscreen-Compatible Thumb and Index Finger
"Touchscreen-compatible thumb and index finger make checking maps on the phone a breeze" — the thumb and index finger have touchscreen-compatible material, allowing the rider to use a phone or GPS device without removing the gloves. Essential for the modern mountain biker who needs to check trail maps, messages, or ride data while on the move.
Back-of-Thumb Sweat Wipe
"A back-of-thumb sweat wipe is great for a quick glasses or forehead wipe" — the back of the thumb has a soft terry cloth panel for wiping sweat. The terry panel is absorbent and gentle on the face, perfect for wiping glasses or a sweat-soaked forehead during a hard climb or in hot weather. Standard feature on most cycling gloves, but a nice touch that shows attention to detail.
Bonded Stretch Cuff
"The bonded stretch cuff gives a snug fit and a streamlined design that doesn't bunch around the wrists" — the cuff uses bonded stretch construction (no seam at the edge — the fabric edge is bonded or welded for a clean, low-profile finish) for a snug, comfortable fit at the wrist. The streamlined design prevents the cuff from bunching under long-sleeve jerseys or interfering with wrist movement on the bars.
Packable Design
"The gloves also pack down super small to stuff inside pockets, bike bags, tube holders, or packs" — the Freewheel's lightweight construction and lack of bulky padding allow the gloves to pack down to a very small size. Easy to stash in a jersey pocket, hip pack, or backpack when not needed. The packable design also makes the Freewheel a good travel glove for bikepacking or multi-day trips.
Outdoor Research Quality and Infinite Guarantee®
Built by Outdoor Research — a Seattle-based outdoor gear company with decades of experience in technical apparel — the Freewheel MTB Glove is backed by OR's Infinite Guarantee® (lifetime guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship). The combination of breathable construction, grippy palm, and packable design makes the Freewheel a long-term investment for serious mountain bikers.

Washing
Hand wash the Freewheel MTB Gloves in cool water with a mild technical fabric wash (like Nikwax Tech Wash or Grangers Performance Wash). Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, or fabric softeners, which can damage the synthetic suede palm, the silicone grip print, and the touchscreen-compatible material on the thumb and index finger. Rinse thoroughly.
Drying
Squeeze excess water gently from the gloves (don't wring or twist) and allow to air dry at room temperature. The lightweight mesh and synthetic suede dry quickly. Don't use direct heat (radiator, hair dryer, dryer) to dry the gloves — high heat can damage the silicone grip print, the bonded cuff, and the touchscreen-compatible material.
Storage
Store the Freewheel in a cool, dry place when not in use. The packable design means the gloves can be stuffed in a pocket, bike bag, or pack. Avoid leaving the gloves in direct sunlight for extended periods — UV exposure can degrade the synthetic suede and the silicone grip print over time. Don't store in a hot car — extreme heat can damage the materials and the bonded cuff construction.
Touchscreen Material Care
The touchscreen-compatible material on the thumb and index finger is a conductive fabric that allows the skin's electrical signal to pass through to the touchscreen. Over time, oils and dirt can reduce the conductivity. If the touchscreen stops working well, clean the fingertips with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to remove the oils and restore conductivity.
Repair
Small tears or holes in the mesh or palm can be repaired with a patch kit (like Tenacious Tape) or by an outdoor gear repair service. For silicone grip print wear or cuff damage, contact Outdoor Research for warranty service — the Infinite Guarantee® covers defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the product.
