At 4.3 ounces with a 0.62" handle thickness, the Freek rides a bit heavier than the lightweight end of the Benchmade lineup — the kind of weight that communicates purpose and lets you know you're carrying a real tool. Cleaning
Wipe the blade and handle with a soft, dry cloth after each use. For deeper cleaning, use mild soap and water, then dry thoroughly — especially the pivot area, lock interfaces, and any layered handle areas where debris can collect. The layered handle construction may need extra attention to keep the recesses between layers clean.
Lubrication
Apply a small drop of light machine oil or knife-specific lubricant (such as Benchmade's BlueLube) to the AXIS lock bar interfaces and pivot every few months — or after cleaning. More frequent lubrication may benefit heavy-use folders like the Freek to keep deployment smooth and prevent grit buildup in the lock mechanism.
Sharpening
The Freek is covered by Benchmade's LifeSharp program: free lifetime professional sharpening, cleaning, oiling, and re-calibration. Send or visit any authorized Benchmade dealer. For home maintenance, use quality diamond or ceramic stones at the manufacturer's recommended angle; the AXIS lock makes full disassembly safe and straightforward for deep cleaning.
Storage
