600-Fill Recycled Waterfowl Down
600-fill recycled waterfowl down delivers versatile warmth for cold winter days — keeps the cold out and the warmth in while staying light enough for all-day play
Recycled Nylon Shell
Lightweight 39 g/m² 100% recycled nylon shell with non-PFC DWR finish — sheds snow and light rain while reducing environmental impact
WINDWALL™ Lining
73 g/m² WINDWALL™ — 100% recycled polyester lining with non-PFC DWR finish — TNF's wind-blocking technology cuts wind chill through the fabric during gusty recess and sled-hill runs
Non-PFC DWR Finish
Non-PFC durable water-repellent finish on both the shell and the lining — water beads off the surface without PFCs
Attached Three-Piece Hood
Insulated, attached three-piece hood with a shaped crown — fits over hats, helmets, or bare heads, full coverage without restricting peripheral vision
#5 VISLON® Center Front Zip
#5 YKK® VISLON® center front zip with a chin guard and antiqued-silver puller — kid-friendly operation, the puller is easy to grip with mittens on
Raglan Sleeves
Raglan sleeve construction provides full arm mobility for snowball fights, sled-pulling, and reaching for the school bus
Secure-Zip Hand Pockets
Secure-zip hand pockets — sized for small hands, mittens, snacks, or small treasures from the playground
Encased-Elastic Cuffs
Encased-elastic cuffs seal out cold air and snow at the wrist without binding — easy to push up when hands get warm indoors
ID Label
Inside ID label for the child’s name — helps at school, camp, and daycare when many parkas look alike
Recycled Materials
Body 100% recycled nylon, lining 100% recycled polyester, down recycled waterfowl — full sustainability story for a kids' piece

PFC Status
Non-PFC DWR finish (shell + lining)
Washing
Close the center front zip fully before washing. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors in a front-loading washer (top-loader agitators damage the 600-fill recycled down baffles and the WINDWALL™ lining). Use a technical down wash such as Nikwax Down Wash or Granger’s Down Wash — regular household detergent strips the natural oils from the 600-fill recycled waterfowl down, degrades the WINDWALL™ lining, and degrades the non-PFC DWR finish on both the 39 g/m² shell and the 73 g/m² lining. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, and dryer sheets. Do not dry clean (solvents destroy the DWR + the WINDWALL™ lining + the recycled down).
Drying
Tumble dry on low with 2–3 clean tennis balls or dryer balls. The balls are critical for breaking up clumps in the 600-fill recycled down and restoring loft. Drying can take 2–3 cycles for a heavily-soaked parka; the parka is fully dry when no clumps remain and the fill is evenly distributed. High heat damages the recycled nylon face, the WINDWALL™ lining, the #5 VISLON® zip, and the antiqued-silver puller — keep the dial low.
DWR Re-Proofing
When water stops beading on the 39 g/m² 100% recycled nylon shell or the 73 g/m² WINDWALL™ lining, re-treat with a spray-on DWR such as Nikwax TX Direct or Granger’s Performance Repel. Apply to the clean, damp parka, paying extra attention to the shoulders (where backpack straps wear the DWR fastest), the upper back, and the cuff area. A short low-heat tumble helps set the finish.
Down Care Specifics
600-fill recycled waterfowl down requires specific care to maintain loft and warmth. Don’t compress the parka in a stuff sack for long periods. If the down has clumped after years of use (especially at the shoulders, hood, and sleeve tops), a long low-heat tumble cycle with tennis balls is the right reset. Avoid excessive heat — goose down can scorch above ~140°F and lose its loft permanently. If a feather pierces the face fabric, work it back into the baffle from the inside rather than pulling it out — pulling damages the baffle and creates a permanent leak path.
WINDWALL™ Lining Care
The 73 g/m² WINDWALL™ lining (TNF’s wind-blocking tech) is built into the lining fabric, not applied as a coating. It’s durable and doesn’t need special care beyond normal washing. The non-PFC DWR finish on the lining is the wear-zone — if the lining starts to absorb water instead of beading, re-treat with the same DWR spray used on the shell.
Hood Care
The attached three-piece hood is a wear-zone — kids put their hoods up and down constantly. Check the hood seam + lining seam periodically for fraying. The chin guard at the top of the #5 VISLON® zip is a small fabric flap that prevents the zip from irritating the chin/neck — check it periodically to make sure it hasn’t torn loose.
ID Label Care
Use the inside ID label with the child’s name — it’s there for a reason. At school, ski school, or daycare, identical parkas get mixed up. A fabric-safe laundry marker on the ID label lasts for years. Don’t use stickers or tape on the parka exterior — they leave residue that’s hard to remove.
Zippers & Hardware
The #5 YKK® VISLON® center front zip and pocket zips are durable but the most failure-prone parts of any kids’ parka. Teach kids to use the chin guard at the top of the zip (prevents the zip teeth from catching on the chin when zipping up). The antiqued-silver puller is large enough for mittened operation but can be replaced if lost. If a zipper sticks, lubricate sparingly with a silicone-based zipper lubricant (Nikwax, GE Silicone II) and never force.
Kids-Specific Stain Care
Kids’ parkas get dirty fast. Spot-clean small stains (chocolate, juice, grass) promptly with a damp cloth and mild soap. For heavier soiling (think hot-chocolate spills, lunch room disasters, playground mud), pre-treat the stain with a small amount of Nikwax Down Wash directly on the spot, then wash the whole parka on a gentle cold cycle. Don’t spot-treat with bleach, oxygen cleaners, or enzyme cleaners — they break down the recycled down and the WINDWALL™ lining.
Sizing & Growing Room
TNF kids’ parkas run true to size, but most parents buy ½ to 1 size up to allow for growing room and to extend the parka’s usable life across 1–2 seasons. If the parka is too tight, the shoulders restrict movement and the down can’t loft properly, reducing insulation effectiveness. With the right amount of growing room, the parka can carry a child through a full winter + spring.
Storage (Off-Season)
Store clean, dry, and uncompressed in a cool, dark, dry place — ideally in a large cotton or mesh storage sack, or hanging loosely in a closet. Never store a down parka in a compression stuff sack for long periods — extended compression permanently damages the 600-fill recycled down. Keep out of direct sunlight (UV degrades the WINDWALL™ lining, the non-PFC DWR, and fades the recycled nylon over time).
Outgrowing vs Wearing Out
Most kids outgrow winter parkas before wearing them out. If the parka is still in good shape when the child has outgrown them, donate or resell — the recycled materials (recycled nylon + recycled polyester + recycled down) don’t biodegrade quickly, so keeping them in use avoids landfill. Check the toe-box-equivalent (cuff + hem) for pressure-point wear and the zipper function before passing on.
