Cleaning
Wipe the 300D TPU-coated body clean with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap. The TPU coating resists water, dirt, and most stains, so this is the only cleaning method most owners will ever need. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — the TPU coating delaminates under heat and agitation, the fleece-lined tablet compartment felts badly, and the daisy-chain webbing and stitched seams can come loose. For stubborn stains, use a soft brush (an old toothbrush works) with mild soap and water, then wipe clean.
Drying
Air dry at room temperature, away from direct heat or sunlight. Open the main compartment and the tablet compartment fully so the interior mesh, fleece lining, and TPU coating dry completely — trapped moisture leads to mildew and odor. Do not use a hair dryer, radiator, or dryer — high heat delaminates the TPU coating from the 300D polyester face and degrades the recycled polyester fibers.
Hardware & Zippers
The shoulder strap adjuster, stabilizer strap hardware, and daisy-chain webbing are the most stress-bearing parts. Periodically check the strap stitching and the stabilizer-strap buckle for wear — a small reinforcement stitch at the first sign of fray prevents a much bigger repair. Zippers: keep the coils clear of debris with a soft brush, lubricate sparingly with a silicone-based zipper lubricant (Nikwax, GE Silicone II, or beeswax) if they start sticking, and never force a stuck zipper — back it off and clear debris from the coil.
Fleece-Lined Tablet Compartment
The fleece lining prevents screen scratches and cushions bumps on the device. Periodically clean the fleece with a lint roller to keep it free of dust and debris. If the fleece pills with heavy use, a careful trim with small fabric scissors restores the surface.
TPU Coating Care
TPU coatings are durable but can be damaged by solvents, harsh chemicals, and prolonged direct UV exposure. Avoid contact with insect repellent (DEET), sunscreen, alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and PVC-coated bags stored against the TPU surface for long periods. UV exposure breaks down TPU over time — store the sling out of direct sunlight when not in use.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. Hang the sling by its shoulder strap on a hook, or fold loosely and store on a shelf. Avoid compressing the fleece-lined tablet compartment for long periods (can flatten the fleece). Keep out of direct sunlight (UV degrades both the 300D recycled polyester and the TPU coating) and away from heat sources.
Travel Tip: TSA & Packing
The dedicated fleece-lined tablet sleeve makes the Base Camp Voyager Sling a strong travel-day companion — pull the tablet out for TSA screening without unpacking the rest of the sling. For air travel, the 11L volume fits the personal-item size limit on most US carriers (verify with your airline), letting you keep essentials within reach under the seat in front of you.
