22% Stainless
First Frontier product to include 304 stainless steel (likely Click Safe handle hardware).
NEW: 22% 304 Stainless Steel (FIRST IN FRONTIER LINE)
This is the first Frontier UL product to include 304 stainless steel in the material mix: Material split: - 22% 304 Stainless Steel (NEW) - 24% Silicone - 54% Aluminium Where the stainless steel goes: - Most likely the Click Safe handle mechanism (vs the GR nylon used in other Frontier products) - Or other high-stress components - 304 SS = food-grade stainless, same as Detour cookware Why stainless in the pot: - The Click Safe handle needs durable hardware - Stainless is more durable than nylon for repeated handle cycling - Worth the small weight penalty (22% SS = ~40-50 g in a 200g pot) - "Safety, safety, safety" — durable handle is critical Trade-off vs other Frontier products: - Other Frontier products: 0% stainless (glass-reinforced nylon handles) - This pot: 22% stainless (more durable handle) - = Slightly heavier but more reliable handle
"Safety, Safety, Safety" — Click Safe Handle (MEMORABLE FAQ)
Per STS FAQ: "Why a stainless-steel handle on an ultralight pot? Three words: Safety, safety, safety. The Click Safe handle allows you to securely hold a pot filled with boiling water making it a critical feature." Why Click Safe is critical for a pot: - Pots hold hot water (vs kettles which are easier to pour) - A pot full of boiling water is dangerous - Click Safe = reliable, click-on attachment - Can't accidentally release while holding Click Safe details: - Stainless steel or anodized aluminum - Click-on attachment - Reverse for transport (locks lid in place) - Tested for secure grip Why this pot has SS handle (vs GR nylon in other Frontier): - The One Pot Cook Set (A1246) has a GR nylon handle - This standalone pot has an SS handle (per material spec: 22% SS) - More durable for daily use - Worth the small weight penalty for safety
DO NOT FRY (Critical FAQ Insight)
Per STS FAQ: "Can you really cook in the pot? Or is it just for heating water? You can cook anything (water-based) that you crave. Our staff favor meals based on minute rice and couscous with fresh veggies. Avoid frying - the oil may reach temperatures that can damage the pot." Why no frying: - Oil reaches higher temps than water (oil can hit 200°C+ vs water 100°C) - Hard-anodized aluminum + silicone sidewalls have temperature limits - Direct flame on the silicone could melt it - High oil temps degrade the surface treatment What you CAN cook: - Water-based cooking (the primary use case) - Pasta, rice, couscous (per STS) - Soups, stews, dehydrated meals - Boil water for freeze-dried meals - Tea, coffee, hot drinks - Frying in oil - Searing meat - Anything that needs high heat for browning/crisping Why no non-stick surface? - Per FAQ: "Given that the pot is primarily intended for water-based cooking, a non-stick finish is not needed" - Non-stick coatings degrade with high heat (which is what this pot is NOT designed for) - Save the cost + weight of non-stick for water-based cooking
Same Frontier Engineering as the One Pot Cook Set
The 1L Pot in this standalone product is the same pot as in the One Pot Cook Set (A1246): Shared specs: - 1L capacity - Hard-anodized aluminum base + lid - EU food-grade silicone sidewalls - Click Safe handle - LidKeep on the lid - Doubles as a bowl - 6 × 6 × 2 in packed (collapses flat) What this standalone version is missing vs the One Pot Cook Set: - No collapsible cup (the One Pot Set includes 1) - No aluminum spork (the One Pot Set includes 1) - Just the pot Why buy standalone instead of the Cook Set: - You already have a cup + spork - You only need the pot - You want to use a specific cup or spork - You're trying to hit a lower price point - You want the 304 SS handle (which the Cook Set may not have — needs verification) Why buy the One Pot Cook Set instead: - Complete system in one purchase - Cup + spork included - Save ~$6.90 vs buying solo pieces - Designed together (STS-tested combo)
Award-Worthy + Use Case Examples
Per STS: "The minimalist solution for preparing satisfying backcountry meals" + "When you head out into technical terrain on a multi-day adventure, every gram counts" Why the minimalist positioning: - Just the pot — nothing extra - Bring your own cup + spork - 7 oz = premium weight-to-utility - For "technical terrain" (alpine, mountaineering, etc.) - "Multi-day" (don't carry a heavier pot) Use cases: - Solo thru-hiking (most efficient) - Thru-hiking on PCT/AT/CDT - Mountaineering (technical terrain) - Bikepacking (compact for handlebar rolls) - Packrafting (very small pack footprint) - Lightweight family camping (multiple people = multiple pots)

DO NOT FRY (Critical FAQ Insight)
Per STS FAQ: "You can cook anything (water-based) that you crave. Avoid frying - the oil may reach temperatures that can damage the pot." Why this matters: - Oil temperatures exceed 200°C - Silicone sidewalls + hard-anodized aluminum have temperature limits - Direct flame on oil = local hotspots that exceed the design temperature - Damages the pot's sealing and coating What to cook (water-based): - Boil water for freeze-dried meals - Pasta, rice, couscous - Soups, stews - Tea, coffee, hot drinks - Rehydrate dried foods - Boil eggs - Frying in oil - Searing meat - Anything that needs high heat for browning Why this is OK for most backpacking: - Most freeze-dried meals = boil water + pour - Ramen, instant potatoes = boil water + add - Most meals don't need frying - The 1L pot + water = most camping meals covered
Hand-Wash Only (Per FAQ)
Per STS FAQ: "No - the base and lid are anodized aluminum; the caustic cleanser used in dishwashers will damage the anodization." Same as the One Pot Cook Set — hand-wash only: - Mild dish soap - Soft cloth - Don't use caustic cleaners - Avoid abrasives (steel wool, etc.) - Air dry fully before storing
Stainless Steel Handle Care (NEW FOR THIS PRODUCT)
The 304 stainless steel handle (NEW for this Frontier product) needs specific care: Why stainless is special: - More durable than glass-reinforced nylon - Can handle higher heat - Less likely to crack from cold - Slightly heavier than GR nylon Care: - Wipe with a damp cloth after each use - The stainless won't corrode in normal use - Avoid harsh chemicals (rare need) - The click mechanism should be checked periodically Click Safe mechanism: - Press the button to release - Click back into place - The stainless hardware = long life - If loose, contact STS support (rare)
Avoid These Failure Modes
Don't: - Fry in oil (per FAQ — damages pot) - Run in a dishwasher (per FAQ — damages anodization) - Use on induction stoves (not compatible) - Use caustic cleaners - Use steel wool (scratches anodized layer) - Cut inside the pot (silicone damage) - Heat empty (no water/food = damage risk) - Leave water standing for days (staining) - Use near open flame (melts silicone) - Drag across rough surfaces - Force the Click Safe handle (damages the mechanism)
Sustainability & End-of-Life
Material considerations: - Aluminum base + lid: highly recyclable - 304 stainless steel handle: highly recyclable - Silicone sidewalls: harder to recycle (specialty facilities) - LidKeep silicone: integrated with the lid Longevity factors: - Hard-anodized aluminum is durable for decades with care - 304 stainless steel handle: very durable - EU food-grade silicone: 20+ years - Stainless handle hardware: longest life of any handle in the line At end-of-life: - Aluminum + stainless: recyclable as scrap metal - Silicone: landfill mostly - Mixed materials = harder to recycle Compare to the One Pot Cook Set: - One Pot Cook Set: GR nylon handle (lighter, less durable) - This pot: SS handle (slightly heavier, more durable) - Trade-off: weight vs durability for handle
Activity-Specific Tips
- Solo thru-hiking: Primary use per STS. 7 oz is the budget. - Bikepacking: 6 × 6 × 2 in packed = bikepacking-bag friendly. - Mountaineering (technical terrain): Lightweight + durable. - Packrafting: 1L pot nests in packraft hatches. - Multi-day backpacking: 5,000-cycle durability (same as Frontier family). - Boil-only trips: Cook ramen, instant potatoes, freeze-dried meals. - NOT for: Frying in oil (per FAQ warning). Couples (1L too small). Family camping. Induction stove users. Microwave.
