Wide bars create more leverage stress at the stem, so the 35mm diameter clamp increases strength in this crucial zone and dissipates clamping load across a larger surface area. Strong enough for the gnarliest terrain, durable enough for everyday chunder, light enough for XC racers.

Traverse SL vs. Control SL — What's Different
The Traverse SL and Control SL both use 35mm clamps, but they're aimed at different riding styles. The Control SL is pure XC racing (0mm or 20mm rise, 185g). The Traverse SL is trail/enduro (30mm rise, 227g, available in 800mm width). If you're riding a Trail or Enduro bike — longer travel, burlier terrain — the Traverse SL is purpose-built for that. The 30mm rise puts you in a more upright position for descending, while the 800mm width option gives maximum control.
30mm Rise — Why More Rise for Trail
The 30mm rise is a trail riding geometry choice — it puts you in a more upright position, which matters when you're descending technical terrain and need to move your weight around. Pure XC bars (0mm-20mm rise) put you over the bars more for climbing efficiency, but on a trail bike you're balancing climbing and descending, and the 30mm rise is the sweet spot for that versatility.
Carbon Layup — Tuned Damping vs. Uniform
Roval's carbon expertise allows them to tune the layup for different functional zones. At the stem clamp: maximum strength and stiffness. At the bar-ends: tuned compliance for vibration damping. This isn't something uniform carbon bars can deliver — the Traverse SL is engineered as a system, not just a tube with a clamp.
